Best is never a good word to use without further explanation. Best can relate specifically to hardware and/or to overall experience. I have a Samsung S6, best hardware possibly with the exception of the camera in 2015, but one of the worst Android phone experiences I've ever had. Best can also relate singularity to specific features, the Xperia Z5 has the best camera according to some tests.

I think personally I'll go back to Nexus because you get the latest software updates immediately, the S6 I have is crippled by a truly terrible OS, and months yet for the latest to appear. I really do like the camera on the S6 though.

Was considering this when I was getting rid of the Nexus 6, ended up getting the 5x as the 6p was just a silly size for the screen, great phone but just an impractical size. Still a great phone and for this price it's worth it, just go in store and try the size out for yourself first as a word of warning.
amour3k to R3D_R0B1N
7 Jan 16 #39
Fair play to that?, but in alllllll 'realness', I (as in me personally speaking that is?), so not see the point of rocking no sub-£400+ Phone (irrespective of Make &/or Model?), thats ONLY rocking a 4" Screen & the like? (that for me at least is pure waste of the possible potential of such a Phone?).

I've got 1 of those fancy 'Windows Phone' (& for me at least, its fancy in 'Name' alone mind?), & I can't stand it!.

But for the money, its one of the cheapest 'unlocked' Smartphones going, AND one of the cheapest ways of hooking up a 4G-Enabled Phone too! .. plus on top of that the average Screen Size is at least 4.5" going ..... (mine is a more respectable 5" still).

For what such Smart Phones are doing these days its pointless in my oppinion to moan too hard on the 'dynamic's of the exterior!, ESPECIALLY when you want to be rocking a hardcore Phone which has wayyyyyyy more than the sufficient amount ofinterior to go with, etc?.

Does anyone recall the 'then' Ericsson 900 Phone? (pre-SonyEricsson days ... lool)
That Phones Screen Size for what it was was a BEAST! .. but AGAIN, for what it was, what did anyone actually expect? (& that Phone by today's standards is like NOWT?, but then ..... )

And that Phone came out at a time of when peeps were complaining about the voluming Phone Sizes then!, but .....

Its like saying you want to buy a Passenger Plane that can transport upwards of 500+ people, but it MUST be within the more 'limited parameters' of a 747 Plane! (considering the shear 'volume' of people you want it to take, etc?), because you don't like the 'ugliness' of what is the rather more appropriate AND 'purpose-built' (be it 'volumous'?) Airbus A320 & the likes instead?, or .....

You quite literally get what you pay for in such instances, no? (good &/or bad ... ) :-)

For what it is, I think the Screen Size of this Nexus 6P is rocking!, hehehehe.

I can't think of anything that seriously gets on my nerves. The things that bother me o/s wise are just me getting up to speed with the latest version. I've been so used to the HTC/Samsung overlays for settings and things that I'm just missing a trick with the simplified o/s. Just me being lazy!

The finger print reader is really handy though it can be a pain in the back side if just out the shower or caught in rain - none of your fingers register!!! But you can always just punch in your password. Not a big issue at all or something that will bother me much going forward. Of course wet fingers won't work!

I don't find the slow mo camera to be on a par with iPhones but I only ever use it to capture one of my boys getting up to no good or somethign else completely pointless so who cares!

That genuinely is nit picking though. The phone is sleek and the screen is fantastic. I really enjoy the Google integration and can't think of a time when any apps have crashed or not functioned properly. It's just really nice getting an Android phone without all the guff that they usually come pre-loaded with!

No doubt a few pro's & con's via the Nexus Phone's too maybe? .. though I do like the way how Google is rocking these Phones still?. :-)

The fact can't add flash meory to these Nexus's is a main issue for me personally? (aka iPhones!), this bugged the hell out of me with my iPhone I was using some years back too!, but .....

If a half decent Deal on a Nexus 64GB were to be out there, I'm pretty sure it will appeal PLENTY?!, hehehehe. :-)

I just got this coming from the nexus 6. Things I've noticed that are better: Battery life is improved, I've been getting 5 hours screen on time on wifi all day and around 4+ hours on 4g all day compared to 3-4 hours on the N6. Performance is good, slightly better than the N6 maybe but not a massive difference. Both front facing and rear facing cameras are much better. Fingerprint reader is brilliant, works 99% of the time. Speakers are louder and clearer than the N6. The screen is slightly better in my opinion. Size wise it doesn't feel much different, N6 is slightly wider.

I think I still actually prefer the design of the N6 over the 6P. I miss the wireless charging on the N6, so much easier to just stick it on top of my drawers at night.

Have been using this for past three months, fantastic phone, love it! The screen is absolutely outstanding, great colors and contrast- great for watching movies and youtube! Especially having stereo speakers on both sides (I can't believe manufacturers like Samsung and Apple are still using the idiotic speaker on the bottom configuration).
In practice, it is a bit too thin in my eyes as with its size it does become quite easy to drop (and I don't have small hands), so what I did, I ordered a case for it and put a finger strap on the back (search amazon for "phone strap"), it literally is god sent!
I think 32Gb is enough for me as I use streaming services (Spotify and Netflix) most of the time instead of downloading anything, so I use the storage pretty much for photos and videos.
Apart from that, battery life is stellar, performance is very snappy (the only app that crashed on me multiple times is Tinder, but that's Tinder's fault). You will need to buy some extra USB-C cables to have them everywhere, at work, in your car, etc, but the included charger is incredibly fast, like 20 mins gives you 50% charge from 10%.
Fingerprint reader is great and very fast, the only problem is that it is on the back and if your phone is on its back, you can't unlock it without picking it up. Instead I paired it with my smart watch and use it as a "trusted device", which means that when its in phone's proximity, I don't need to unlock it.
Picture quality from the camera is fantastic, my only gripe is with the camera app which is VERY basic and doesn't allow you to control pretty much anything apart from few parameters.
All in all, I would highly recommend this phone to anyone (as I've been doing it since I got it)

I'm a bit torn between the 64gb version of this or a Moto X Style which I can add an SD card.

My reservations is that this is made by Huawei, had one before and wasn't too pleased with performance over time.

Never had a Motorola either. Always had Samsung and Sony for Android but wanting a change.

Coming from a Z3, is it worth changing to one of these?

Got one of these from the Google Play Store around October time and can safely say it is the best phone I've ever owned! Coming from a Sony Xperia Z2, everything is a lot smoother, the screen is crisper and more colourful, the camera actually takes better photos despite being lower in resolution. I like waking up my phone simply by touching the sensor on the back. Also being on the latest Android version makes you feel like you're part of the elite Android squad.

The only downside is the lack of MHL, so your only option to stream your phone's display to your TV is by casting through a chromecast, which is not as reliable and introduces some latency (so gaming through your phone on the TV is no good). Also what I miss from my Z2 is the ability to connect PS3/PS4 controllers and play PS4 games through remote play, but I have my PS Vita for that anyway...

At this price, I recommend everyone who is even considering buying it to go ahead and do so, you won't be disappointed!

Nexus 6 camera is trash even compared to its generation competitors, where as nexus 6P camera was said by many that it's the best or one of the best in the market today.
Nexus 6 build and materials are certainly not on the same level as nexus 6P which has a distinctive design look and features high quality materials.
Just because you don't use fingerprint scanner doesn't mean others don't. Most of my friends that have have it use it and also I use it. It's certainly better for privacy and security reasons. Also it's way quicker to unlock with fingerprint readers especially this generation ones e.g one in 6P.
Display in 6P is also a lot better than 6.
With all these advantages/differences if you don't see that 6P is so much better than 6, then you might need to see an eye doctor.
Also your post structure is horrendous.

alizi1
8 Jan 16 2 #77
This thread is about a deal on the Nexus 6P, which it is...so why do you feel the need to come on here and share with us the fact that you have got yourself a Nexus 6 for £190. Obviously that will be the case as the phone is over a year old! Are you going to be coming on here next year saying you got the 6P for £190 when everyone else will be talking about the latest Nexus phone?!

Where you have totally lost me, is in your strange view that there isn't any difference between the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 6P. Just to set the record straight...the 810 is a much faster CPU being 64bit against the 32bit 805, that's a fact. Maybe the 1st gen 810 "hammered" the battery, but the 6P has the 2nd gen 810 which runs much more efficiently and cooler, it has one of the best battery life's in the current market and can easily give the average user 2 days use. The fingerprint scanner is a must have in a flagship handset these days, not only does it make unlocking the device quick and secure, it also allows you to make purchases without the need to type in you password everytime...i dont see how you can see any bad in it being introduced. The camera is far better than the Nexus 6, comparable to the current high end flagships out there...the Nexus 6 on the other hand has a camera that Motorola has put in the 3rd gen Moto G, a budget low end device. The software maybe the same on the Nexus 6, but Android 6.0 is built on a 64bit structure, so you would instantly notice differences when seeing it run on the 6P, with no lag whatsoever. Phone design on the 6P is individual, unique and all metal, whereas the Nexus 6 is just a blown up Moto X, which is mostly plastic build with a metal frame.

Basically, what I'm trying to get to is that the Nexus 6P has made huge leaps over the last gen Nexus 6, and not your strange view of a small step. Just becuse you got a year old Nexus 6 for over half the price is irrelevant to this thread.

8 Jan 16 #86
Nexus phones haven't had an SD card slot for the past 3+ years. I'd like to see the end of SD card slots in all phones and just increase the internal memory. Unfortunately it seems that the S7 will get an SD card slot due to consumer pressure. It's a high end phone just make the base model a 64GB version instead of messing with trying to get an SD controller to work with the UFS controller in the phone and then ruining the user experience when I/O to the SD card cripples the phone.

That depends on what you call best. I would demand an SD card slot for a phone called the best. Android 6.0 lets you share the SD card slot with the internal storage to make a single large drive. This would allow you to record lots of 4k videos, store offline GPS maps etc. 32GB isn't much, offline maps of the uk by nokia take up around 8GB alone. You can buy a 64GB micro sdxc card for £10-15 and you can even get a 200GB for a reasonable price. Cortex A72 phones are out within the next few months anyway, will bring a nice performance and battery life boost.

It really all boils down to the software experience to be honest. I personally never made use of the Note software features or S Pen over the years. Yeah it was great to show some friends once in awhile, but they never became features I used on a regular basis. They soon became redundant.

In years gone by, stock android and nexus mobile devices seemed half baked in my opinion...lollipop was a step in the right direction, but it wasn't entirely complete and the Nexus 6 was just not the best hardware to present it. When stock marshmallow appeared, it seemed to be near perfect...there are a few things still missing, but it had enough for me to test the waters. That together with hardware which was decent enough to showcase the software...the Nexus 6P.

Obviously, this is all my opinion. You may not like stock android, or you may heavily use the Note features. In which case, the Nexus 6P may still not be for you.

No sign of Amazon price matching :disappointed: I've £65 quid in gift vouchers and would be all over this!, though somehow Amazon think they can charge £544.99 for the same model as here lol

very biased test, you can see two distinct performance characteristics in that video if you are comparing the iphone and the nexus. The first is the nexus take an early lead in system apps this suggests the cpu / memory / os itself as a combination are faster on nexus, using the phone will feel faster. The moment he loads games you are now only really testing the speed of the onboard storage and the iphone is and has for some while been top dog here, this part of his test is far longer and makes the test massively favour the iphone overall. This only affects load speeds really but it is a clear difference.

There is an interesting video on mobile benchmarks thats worth watching, it does not include either of these phones I dont believe but does talk about the tests and the hardware underneath and how the manufacturers claims on hardware may not always tell the full story although this is more geared to the lower end phones not ultra premium.

"HD Do 8 CPU Cores Really Matter In Smartphones? A Live Mobile Benchmarking Event" on YouTube

You can read more about the iphone storage speed here

Haven't heard of the pink tint problem. The screen on mine is fantastic - bright, vibrant, sharp. Was showing my phone off to a mate who was very impressed with the display.

I read a lot on my phone so if there had been a pink tint thing like you describe on mine I would've returned it.

Have u tried turning on srgb in developer options?

https://www.imageupload.co.uk/image/cYvj

Top left is pinky... if you simply Google "Nexus 6P pink hue", you'll find there are many people plagued with the issue. It's just that the majority don't notice or realise it. I reckon it's a manufacturing defect.

EDIT: It looks worse than it actually is in that picture. This is more accurate http://s10.postimg.org/tt5z7j2op/IMAG1987.jpg
If you look at the top left corner and then look at the bottom right corner, you can see it's two completely different shades...

Yep, and turned off adaptive brightness too but no luck.

Then I'd get a replacement or refund..
hellopeeple
12 Jan 16 #116
Seems ever so close to a refund yes, especially after I checked 3 phones from CPW and all had the same issue (but they were also all built on 19/12/15 so it's the same batch). I'm going to give it a week and then get a refund if it doesn't get any better.

In the meantime why don't u contact google support?
hellopeeple

Been there, done that. In fact, I also rang Huawei. Both logged my feedback but neither seem to be aware of the issue.

When does this deal expire?
flame6969
12 Jan 16 #120
Bought to replace Samsung S6 (like the larger screen) BUT I think it will be going back as the screen is not as sharp as the S6.

13 Jan 16 #121
You can notice 515ppi as opposed to 577ppi? Are you Superman?
flame6969
13 Jan 16 #122
When put side by side there is a difference in pixel density but also the saturation, brightness (even when both phones are at the Max brightness). The icons look so much smoother on the S6 then the Nexus. The Nexus is a fantastic phone its so damn quick only if it had a slightly sharper screen

And yes I am Superman!!

Who went for this deal then? I got the silver, had terrible battery life and it was over heating after minimal use. Went in store and exchanged it for the black one.

Probably got unlucky. Anyone else got problems with theirs?
AshtonBRSC to habz786
26 Jan 16 #126
I don't have any problems with my silver 6P.

I actually sold my 5X to get this because the battery life on my 5X was terrible.

I can't believe how good the battery life is on my 6P. It's the first phone in ages that I don't have to make sure to plug in overnight to make sure it's not dead in the morning.
