The new version of the Anker 40w 5 port USB charger in black is now £14.99. Back down to the cheapest price yet on Amazon. Brilliant bit of kit, now with quick charging compatibility.

With regards to the alternative product that rysio101 has linked to (Aukey Quick Charge) Amazon Review of 3 Jan is worrying;
I had my charger for a few months. Not super fast at charging, but provides 3 USB ports from 1 plug so mildly satisfied. The charger was plugged into the wall next to where i rest my head in bed. Until it exploded. I'm not sure how it happened, as nothing was plugged into it at the time, but it self destructed with a bang, throwing its casing off, exposing its internal wiring and circuitboards and emitting an acrid smoke into the bedroom. This woke me up, and has caused me to start my day with a case of the mild jitters, and also concern that others may suffer a worse failure. The charger lived in a bedroom that I, my wife and my newborn share. I am glad they were already up when it happened, it could have been far worse had the charger been living in the socket above our babies cot. The explosion also tripped off the power in the house, so had we been out, or on holiday, we would have come home to all kinds of fridge/freezer related disasters.

Thanks for posting, it's a fantastic quality multi-charger.
However, I'm not sure what's new about it as it says in the description...

Important to now that this model does not support Qualcomm QC2...
Fast Charging Technology: PowerIQ and VoltageBoost combine to provide the fastest possible charge up to 2.4 amps per port or 8 amps overall (Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 not supported. For QC2.0 charging, please see Anker's 18W USB Wall Charger).

From experience camelcamelcamel is not 100% accurate. When prices change during the day, which they can, they only show one price which may not be the lowest!

This one is much better IMO (support quick charge) and just 2 pounds more.

ANKER seems to have an excellent reputation AUKEY that you linked seems to be getting a reputation for melting or blowing up.
The ANKER products with Quick Charge are called PowerPort+. They show a 6 port version on their web site but it seems not to be available currently (or yet?).

but this also just shows that you should never leave something charging anyway when you're asleep, shouldn't leave things plugged in when they're not being used, especially when you're away from the house for any length of time, and leave your tech away from your bed at night. use common sense and get some sleep.

I agree to a point - the point being when tech (like your mobile) is your alarm clock

Are the new generation ones from Anker more reliable than the ones from 18 months ago as I've had to get a couple replaced within that time due to failing ports?
To be fair their support is superb and they quickly replace faulty units.

Was thinking the same thing. I had one with a faulty port but Anker immediately replaced it and told me to keep the one with a failed port. Couldn't fault the service and the product itself is great.

so many people have been praising Anker support, but it makes me wonder how many units are failing in the first place (within the guarantee period), yet we praise the products

The Ravpower 40w charger is £12.99 also an excellent charger, its an "upgraded version" they offer 18 months warranty plus an extra year when you register the product.

These are quality, charges a Nexus 10 tablet from dead in ~4 hours, I've used other chargers which have taken anywhere up to 12...
Doesn't make that high pitched electrical whining noise, doesn't burn your hand off when you touch it and I'm happy to leave it on when I'm out or asleep without fear it will burn my house down.
Mine failed OUTSIDE the warranty period I emailed them anyway and 36 hours later I had the latest version and kept the old one.
As for not having things on overnight, that's ridiculous. Kids use their tablets during the evening say dont plug them in overnight and they're flat the next day, what about if you go out? Do you turn your cooker/microwave/washing machine off at the wall all the time because they're just as likely to blow up and burn your house down.
Highlights the importance of having a good quality working smoke alarm too given how much stuff is left on all the time like DVRs, HTPC etc
Anyway I always recommend anker for the customer service, mine didn't fail badly one port started not charging intermittantly so it's still usable. Plus you can have all kinds of hilarity with their name LOL!!

if you remember the fire safety adverts of days gone-by, the advice was to turn off appliances that you weren't using when you were not at home. most white goods, tvs and electricals today do have good safety features on standby. but chargers are not so robust, even if they're genuine. how many times have you replaced one, or couldn't tell if one was fake, and lithium batteries are plain dangerous when unsupervised. i only charge my phones or tablets when i'm awake, and i sleep better for it.
i mentioned safety first on this thread after reading the amazon review for the aukey charger. as i see it, the anker/tecknet/aukey products are from the same factory, and someone has already reported on a dangerous product- i'm saying these chargers are to be used sensibly.
