I picked up one of these for the same price (thanks to this site) on Black Friday from Amazon France.

The only difference is that it comes with a French charger, and the instruction book is in French. Other than that, it's the same phone you'd buy here.

it was 219 this morning. I bought this before Christmas for my daughter it was about £2.00 something for using my credit card to buy in euros.

Just wondering would all the text on the phone and documentation be in French? Would I need to change it once the phone has been set up?

not sure about France but fairly sure Asia will use a different baseband or whatever it's called, at least for 4g. 3g might be ok.

For anybody concerned about returning things to Amazon France:

I bought one of these the last time it was on offer. Unfortunately the screen has developed a fault where the backlight no longer turns on, so I can't see anything on the screen (although the phone is switched on).

Amazon.fr returns have been great so far (the UK customer service team wouldn't help me, as it was ordered from France). I requested a replacement on Friday, and they got a new handset to me on Sunday via DPD. I've got 30 days to return the faulty handset, at my own cost, however their terms state that they will refund the postage costs as long as their returns team finds the handset to be faulty.

Just a heads up...I bought this on the last deal, this is an excellent phone for the money but on mine the camera lens bezel was coming away slightly and wouldn't stay down. couldn't be bothered to send back and glued it (very carefully) and it works like a champ.

I also got £141.60... maybe the exchange rate changed?

Ok thanks thought it was too good to be true, got one of the lesser specs from Vodafone last week for the Mrs, performs really well if anyone was after a cheaper handset without having to purchase from France :smiley:

It really wasn't difficult ordering it from France Amazon, if you want this phone. You don't even have to know any French, just stick it through Google translate.

mine has some backlight issue on top especially on white background, and sometimes touches are registering but nothing is happening like missed touches. otherwise great phone compared to my brother iphone 6 on many apps this little moto g was faster !!(display is better on iphone6 though). still thinking if I keep it or return it.

peeps considerin this may also want to be aware that moto av just launched the moto g (4th gen?) turbo which has a significant CPU/spec update in some territories (not confirmed yet comin to Europe) but hopefully it will. It's being compared by some to be similar spec to a Htc A9 which is a radically diff price point. Heat given tho despite being happy wiv my 8Gb

I really wish they'd have called the two different versions something different, like Moto G lite and Moto G or Moto G and Moto G+ or something.

It always builds my hopes up when then 8GB version gets reduced somewhere!

I'm looking for a reasonable 5" smartphone for my other half, for about £100 (2GB RAM, decent camera etc). Torn between something like this and some from Banggood etc.

We live in France, so getting this from Amazon isn't a problem, getting something from CPW etc will be trickier!

It was 8GB though, but it was external storage which makes it a pretty decent deal for £99

i'm a bit nervous with these types of phones, i got a "no name" phone before, the specs were great but it was really laggy and pretty much made it unusable.

I am also looking at this phone but apparently the led notifications dont work.

I was looking at Doogee ones on Gearbest and Banggood, but they're never in stock in the EU. Just buy something for about £50 or so and see how it goes. If I go for something more then the Umi looks good!

I was also considering the umi mini until I found out its not got led notifications and It dosnt look like its going to get an update to 5.1, also worth considering is the wileyfox swift, which is what I'm considering.

Bought this phone just before Christmas from Amazon France, absolutely delighted with it, lightening fast and highly recommended!

Pulled the trigger for my mum to replace her ageing moto g 1st gen.

Going to pair it up with a three sim as she's a regular traveller

better off with the Sony xperia m4 aqua from Vodafone for £150 and a few quid to unlock...far superior phone all round and comes out with better benchmark scores

Inferior? Just because it has 8gb less memory? Micro sd cards are dirt cheap!

smart ultra 6 is your best bet for £115

First point: The majority of Android apps cannot be fully installed to the SD card.
Second point: Apps which can be installed usually act in odd ways (crashing, freezing, features not working).
Third point: The 16GB version also includes 2GB RAM (vs 1GB RAM on the 8GB version). Arguably this is the main reason why the 16GB version is superior.


Better specs do not equal a better experience. The M4 Aqua is plagued with issues from overheating, extreme lag due to over-throttling of the processor to control the heat (usually you will find that the SD410 in the Moto G 3rd performs better than the M4 in use, apart from gaming and benchmarks), poor build quality, and internal memory which is crammed with un-installable junk.

My experience with two M4's last year included all of the above, plus failing microphones, cameras which occasionally wouldn't bother to save the photo or video (saving a black image or audio only), and too many random reboots.

This gen Moto phones are all over priced I think with how well they did before had gone to there heads.

Should of been this price at release if not bit less.

Ordered Monday 7pm arrived on the doormat today after coming via madrid, cologne and Birmingham. Fantastic service.

Feels quality in the hand. Booted up in English. French wall charger to usb in the box.

Cloud storage lots avaliable. I use dropbox but my mum uses Google photos for convenience. My gf uses one drive.

I know this deal has finished but I'm thinking of getting this phone as an upgrade from my 1st gen. Quite happy to pay the £169 at Argos for the 16gb/2gb ram version . Is the extra £80 over the Vodafone 8gb worth it?
