Or just re-purpose an old phone for a free solution? I put the IP Webcam app on an old Galaxy S4 and it makes a great little webcam, viewable on any device with a browser. Dead easy if both devices are on the same wifi, which for baby monitoring, you would be (unless you have nipped down the pub - in which you need to a do a bit of port-forwarding in the router to make it work  ). HD images, video, sound, motion detection - it's all there. I did it as a joke for a friend that wanted to monitor a young dog when they were away from the house - mounted on an in-car phone holder with a rubber-sucker base.

Uhhhhhhhhhh. But then I might as well not have a baby monitor at all......
Our tommee tippee one mutes when there's only background noise, then turns up when there's a significant noise (i.e. crying). This seems to me like the desirable operation for these devices.
looks like the cheap price has gone :disappointed:

on the mothercare website it says you can get an additional camera - does anyone know where I can get this? or should I just buy another unit at this low price?

The camera really isn't as terrible as some are saying, it's not like you need a UHD image you just want to see what's going on. I'm pretty sure you're aware of who the baby or child is. The battery life of the viewer, however, is appalling. Unlike sensible monitors it never cuts out the sound, so you just have a speaker constantly running with whatever background noise it can pick up in the room. It's alright if you keep it plugged in I suppose, but the constant noise is a bit irritating too.

FYI there's actually two reasons to only broadcast when necessary.
One is to save battery life but the other is to reduce the amount of radiation emitted and hence baby is exposed to.

Many of these rumours are absolute rubbish. The IP cameras are by and large safe as long as you don't enable DDNS, without that neither you, nor someone in China will be viewing the device on your network. For those (like me) who are a bit paranoid though, you can simply set some firewall rules accordingly. I use my IP cam for this purpose, and the resulting image is displayed on my iPad, so you can see a very good level of detail in a pitch black room.

Find this great. Have it attached at the top of the cot. Picture isn't amazing but great for seeing movement, whether eyes are open and whether they've lost their pacifier.

Yes, I tried going down that rout, however every camera had a dodgy IP access allowing external persons accessing the image. Really can not trust a branded or non-branded Chinese over a wifi device for personal data security.

Brought this from a clearance section in asda for 20 pound a few months back (didnt post as it was the only one and priced with a clearance sticker) and have to say i love it. Battery life not brill but iv had two audio monitors before this and there battery life was always rubbish too. Def worth 29.99 imo

Well I bought a dead cheap wifi enabled camera from china for half this price and the quality was much better than I expected. The image does not have to be high definition as long as you can tell if baby is awake or asleep does it?

Have to agree with this, very poor quality camera.

Ditto, camera is just the pits... Not only is it incredibly low resolution but it can't handle movement at all and night time it's even worse. Honestly think you either have to go double the price or get a sound monitor only. If others are happy with it they must have been able to get it damn close to their kid - ours was about 5 foot away looking down into the cot from a wardrobe.

Thanks op, I ordered this and then found amazon has the Motorola MBP26 at 39.99,
Cancelled orignal order and ordered the mbp26.
Tesco had the 26 model for 50 pounds with double up cupboard but both offers expired on the day I was going to order.
Op thanks

I bought this as a lightening deal over black friday for £10 more. The video isn't top quality but easily good enough to see if baby's eyes are open and any movement. The audio is perfectly reliable in our experience so far. At £30 I'd happily recommend it.

That is true - although you with this camera you would even struggle to do that. The image (of the close up baby) in the picture of the product is very misleading - you really can only see a very small grainy image of what one must assume is baby
We have 2 motorola baby monitors MBP36 (video) & MBP8 (audio) - if you need video then I'd advise going for something better than the MBP18 (the MBP36 is excellent), but if video isn't that important i'd save your money and get a basic audio one. Obviously just my opinion but we had to return the MBP18 as we found the video close to useless. Hope this helps.
