I'm having trouble with gmail keeping freezing on my single sim... anyone else? Tried wiping cache partition and uninstalling and reinstalling updates to the app too.

Getting back to the deal - I get 307 euro now which is £232, so deal is expired? Shame as I just lost my phone yesterday and looking for a replacement :disappointed:

That's the confusing thing, all XT1562s have a factory fitted SIM slot, just that it's blanked off with a bit of plastic and disabled in firmware when sold as single SIM. In which case, it's a waste of time trying to mod it for dual use in the UK.

I found here maps absolutely awful... Uninstalled after 2 journeys using it. Completely from me in wrong direction. Gone back to navmii which seems to work fairly OK, when I don't use google maps

I want this for the battery life but coming from the LG G2 worried I'll be disappointed in other areas... Decisions decisions...
Are apps now storable on memory cards? Is there any advantage of getting a 32 gb over a 16gb?
Also, UK MOTO maker models aren't dual sim are they without a hack?

Single SIM MXPs can be converted to dual SIM by removing a plastic blanking plate in the SIM tray and flashing firmware from a dual SIM variant. But it's pointless to do this in the UK as the 2nd SIM doesn't have an IMEI so won't connect to any UK network. The mod only works in countries where networks do not check for IMEI validity before registration.

How does this compare to the LG G2? I'm tempted with this deal - because of the battery mostly (don't play games). The camera as I understand doesn't have image stabilisation, like the G2 but it has more processing grunt and memory. Can anybody give me a short comparison?

My wife has the G2, I just got the X Play at Christmas. XP has a bigger screen and I think probably better battery life. Picture wise, they don't seem too far off each other (I use tap to focus and exposure slider which I think helps a lot in lower light) but then I haven't blown them up or pixel hunted for comparison. Her G2 has slowed down a bit (can't use the update tool to update to most recent firmware for some reason, possibly Win10) and I think LG's skin is ugly (as are a lot of the skins). I wouldn't say it's much of a step up, but it holds it own fairly well I would say. Looking forward to marshmallow.

I keep hearing they're bad in low light, I've not had any real problems so far. Changing to Tap to focus and using the exposure slider helps a lot. Some people report changing the camera app can help too but not really tried this.

Thanks hotty.
Trying to decide on this or a used and older flagship. Coming from a xperia z2.
Other option is a z5 at 380, but seems to be a lot of money for something so fragile.
Z2 has been bulletproof though. Unfortunately I need some water resistance for cycling which narrows my options a bit.

Guys, could you give me a unicode. I'd lile to order a Moto X Play from the Moto website so I can customize it.

OK, this seems to get good reviews.
But they are good reviews based on it being a mid range priced phone.
How would it compare to a current flagship like a S6 or Z5?
And how would it compare to a 2 yr old flagship like the xperia Z2 or S5? Would it be on par, for both performance and camera quality, or will an old high end phone be better or worse.

Compared to S6 - worse screen (though that goes for most phones), worse processor, better software arguably, worse camera
Compare it to an S5 and things probably get murkier. S5 still probably a faster processor but also more bloated software-wise. Camera prob has the edge over the Play at a guess
Essentially with this phone you're getting a new phone that will likely receive updates for some time, a midranger with the unusual aspect of having a good camera (crap in low light), and very good battery life and a decent screen
Look at it more like a budget Galaxy Note as that's kind of what it is

Style has 3000m vs Play at over 3600m I think, but yeah bigger screen and perhaps the different processor too are why the style doesn't get the same battery life (if indeed that's the case I'm only going off what I've read)
jazzuk777
19 Jan 16#27
I seem to remember they both have same battery but the style has a bigger screen with double? the number of pixels so it chews through it quicker...

19 Jan 16#26
Goodness knows who signed off on the idea of the flagship phone having a smaller battery than the midrange equivalent.
I wanted a step up to a phablet sized screen which is why i went with Style. Can also use with one hand still because it was designed quite well ergonomically wise.
HottyHotty
19 Jan 16#25
That's the weird thing about the Play compared to the Style and why I've been looking at it, it's midrange compared to the Style but has a huuuuge 3600mah battery which apparently gives 1.5-2 days use

This can be had brand new from Motorola UK for £211 (down from £249) if you have a student code I think?? Also means you can use Motomaker and customise it (doesn't cost anything to do that).

I have the Moto X Style and it's an amazing phone! Already got the Marshmallow update as well. Although the battery life is bad, pretty bad actually. I start needing a charge by 4pm. When in my previous Z3, I could go full day with relative heavy use.
How do I know if Doze is active? Or any tips on saving battery?
Also once you start using Moto Assist, there's no way you can live without it!

This is a great deal if Moto are good with the updates. As they have now been taken over by Lenovo, its always going to be a risk.

Lenovo are actually killing the Motorola brand, they'll keep the Moto name for some of their products, but won't make phones under Motorola again

Yep a great phone, I'm most impressed with my dual sim version, just got Marshmallow which seems ok although once I updated I got an issue where wifi was draining the battery and not appearing to shut off. Offers have reported this (check you battery stats and see if wifi is the top item using battery) - I followed some simple instructions which seems to have resolved the bug.
