good quality, and cheap enough to get a fair few of differing sizes, shove into pockets with ease, get worn and tatty without regret, and even give one or two away to those that matter, without too much expense.

I used to find they’re a bit bleedy with fountain pens. Departing from my decent Waterman, I explored a range of cheapy Parkers, trying to find one that gave better results than the price suggested (ironically, it turned out to be the first cheapo Parker I bought — the Jotter fountain — that proved a lot more reliable and usable than most of the others, despite being ridiculously cheap). Mind you, Waterman inks all the way. The thing is, these notepads referred to here simply weren’t very good with fountain pen ink, and there are other less well publicised ones that cost similar or not as much, that respond better to fountain pens.

Why Lamy? I have a a very nice Mont Blanc; not sure I want to downgrade to use a Moleskin notepad!

Moleskine are awesome. Defo worth it if they're cheap. Also a real pleasure to use with a nice fountain pen, as mentioned by Subhi. Get a nice Lamy!

I had genuine Moleskines, but only when someone else was daft enough to buy them for me. When I realised that I could just as professionally use the finest from WH Smith or Wilko and save myself enough to fund a holiday, then I started to view them differently. OK for Porsche 911 drivers, or those wannabes.
