Got to agree, I used to sing the praises of LIDL five years ago, but their fresh produce simply isn't what it once was. Not to mention the staff in my local have all the charm of a turkish jailer.

you have to look at the label. it will have a two part number on it (aldi do this too) so for example a bag of apples will say 52-04
52 is the week on that year and 04 is on the 4 day of that week, Thursday.

I used to work for lidls and they don't do sell by dates but if u look for a 4 digit number I.e. 5205 means the fresh stuff was pick on the 52nd week of the year and on day 5 so Friday, hope this helps to pick the fresher stuff

Vegetables from my local Lidl are the best I've had from anywhere other than my father in laws allotment!

Well its far more complex than a simple '13 JAN' for example' Was only trying to help someone not buying veg that is weeks old. Unless you have something helpful/nice to say, than don't say it at all

The people managing the staff are often brutal. I heard one manager tell a checkout operator that she would never work in London again, because she could not work over Christmas. Not the Christmas spirit!

Twice a week mate; a Sunday shop sorts out the first few days, mid-week shop sees me home. But then I guess you probably realised that and thought you'd come in with a wildly polarised internet response that misses the subtle points of normal conversation eh? You keyboard warrior, you!

I didn't realise that using 1-52 to represent the 52 weeks of the year & 1-7 to represent the 7 days of the week was "complex"

Personally, I'm well up for buying produce that is ready to eat. It means I don't have a pineapple or melon sitting there for days waiting to go sweet.

Tried my local Lidl to see what the fuss was about and found the "fresh" fruit and veg to be anything but. Pumpkins sinking into the ones below as they rot, and 5 bags of carrots that had turned grey and furry - not something that can happen to that extent within a few hours, so clearly staff paying no attention to what is for sale over days.
I don't care if my carrots are perfectly straight or not, but I won't be buying grey and rotten

My lidl had virtually no stock today, not even milk and no frozen chips. I keep having to throw the so called fresh fruit and veg from both lidl and aldi. May have to start going to asda or morrisons again.

My 2 local Lidl were virtually empty today. Just roes of empty tables. Not just fruit & veg but 90% of freezers were completely empty.
Only wanted hash browns :disappointed:

Why do you need a date code or sell by date for produce???
BadCredit
4 Jan 163#4
I keep throwing away LIDL "fresh" produce.
They don't appear to use "sell by dates.
If I want to buy food to just eat on the day, I can go to a market stall where things are much cheaper.

they use a complex date code. for example, it is the first day of the second week of January so today's date would be 0201 if that that makes sense. Sundays date would be 0207 etc etc. Hope this helps

One is picked on the 52 week and 2nd day, the other is the 52 week and the 4th day. Meaning the second one was more recently picked

I agree none of it keeps and most of it doesn't even look fresh in store. I get mine either from the local market when I can or Asda which keeps for longer.
Opening post
Oaklands Onions 1kg 29p
Oaklands Red Pepper 29p
Oaklands Cucumber 29p
Oaklands Cherry Plum Tomatoes 250g 29p
