Was looking around for 55 inch 4K TV and came across this @ RGBDirect.
The price seems to be the cheapest it has been.

I'd be worried about backlight bleed on an IPS panel that size. I had to return 2 Samsung 6800 series 55 inch tv's for that reason and it turns out the 50 and 60 inch models used va panels and were apparently fine. might not affect this tv of course but id check first.

SD content on a full HD 1080p won't look too bad. He is referring to the 4k upscaling.

i'd rather £300 more for this than the 65" digihome one

You will need a big unit as the stand shows legs at each end. I know a few people have complained about this feature.

It's when the LED lighting array is normally around the side of the screen to light it up. Sometimes the LEDs are not positioned correctly and the light 'bleeds' onto the screen. It's most noticeable on dark scenes in movies/tv shows. Like when you have the black bars at the top and bottom of films, you can see in the corners of the screen that it looks lighter or grey instead of black

same comment as lollypoplee. can someone tell us what "backlight bleed" is and what do the suppliers say when you return it? thanks just don't understand all the jargon. I'm still using a 47" Panasonic plasma over 7 years old and apart from failing once and repaired under their 5 year warranty I get a pretty good picture still. But I keep getting tempted. That's why I'm looking on this site! But choosing a replacement is hard as so many out there and varying comments on all I look at. Cheers to all who read this and happy new year and telly hunting!!

Thanks for that, you have explained a problem I had on a toshiba set I bought for a spare room, I didn't know exactly why those lights were shining through the 4 corners of the screen during dark pictures but it was unbearable, sold the tv after 2 month

Next TV is OLED when more appropriately priced for me. IPS showing 4k alarms me with poor blacks and bleed.

No 4K dvd or normal broadcasts.
Only a couple of VERY EXPENSIVE subscriptions with a small number of movies.

That's what's putting me off. But to be honest, I'm not sure Netflix is VERY EXPENSIVE. And there will be more and more 4K over time. But, Yes, a new TV will inevitably be some sort of compromise. It'll be too big for SD and too small for 4K. I think 55 inches is a reasonable compromise at the moment but it will depend on your preferences/room size/viewing distance/sources/content/etc...

Sony and Warner Bros are bringing out 4K Blue Ray DVDs this year BUT you will need a NEW expensive DVD player to use them as they will be no good on the standard that is out now.
It will still be a good while before true 4K broadcasts via aerial if ever because of the data content that needs to be transmitted.
4K is the FUTURE just like HD was and is still to come but affordable transmitting and receiving technology is not
there yet. Perhaps 2022.
