Owning one of these machines, and having just purchased a second, the very point for me is to make excellent Lavazza coffee. Seems rather odd to put a no-name brand in the unit instead, which I would doubt would be as good as Lavazza.
On a positive note, just had an email from Tesco saying the unit has been dispatched for click-n-collect, so will get it tmw.

Good ££ and pods appear to use proper coffee, not instant type stuff that empty away into your cup. Just not the quickest at dispensing, but lovely coffee. Overall :-)

The Milk Frother on its own is £59.99 on Lavazza.com and John Lewis.

You don't get a free Milk Frother with it at all what you get is a coupon to send off for one which expired in 2015.
So take note.
However at £35 you won't find a better Coffee 'Pod' machine.

Link to this info? Tesco description says "The Lavazza A Modo Mio Éspria espresso coffee machine by AEG comes with a Lavazza milk frother."
The first I got ages ago, and that did indeed need to have the frother sent away for. The unit received was different from the original pic, but the same as the one shown in this deal. I believe the machine can be purchased with and without the frother, and this deal clearly indicates it should be included.
Hands down the best coffee machine I've used, and purchased a 2nd one for my desk at work. Capsules are 26p-30p depending on variety, and the decaf is the best decaf coffee I've ever had.
12 capsules included in a box, which is about 3 quids worth.

I was going to order this last week but without the frother. Excellent deal. Ordered! Now on the look out for pods. Cheapest place anyone?
Thanks OP, ordered. Has anybody tried this alongside a Nespresso machine? I noticed the pressure is lower than the Nespresso machine we have at work (15 v 19 bar), does this make much difference?
JamesSmith to FNC888
21 Jan 16#45
Can't help you on the pressure difference, aside from noting 15 bar is standard for a regular espresso machine...
I've read the frother is OK for lattes but not really cappucino but would warm my soya milk..
I'm curious how it compares to my Tassimo. The Nespresso is regarded as better coffee quality.
Then again I saw a trad style espresso machine in ALDI the other day for £40 and I'm tempting to go back to tamping and buying ground coffee.. Thinking back to when I last used one, rinsing out the coffee holder just doesn't seem like that much work.. and it works out a lot cheaper per cup
Heres the ALDI one.. its a bit more plastic than it looks in the picture.

When heating the milk, let it get a bit warm and then slowly drop in 3-4 heaped t-spoons of quality drinking chocolate powder. The stirring and heating all but eliminates clumps of chocolate, and when adding to a fresh espresso makes for a lovely mocha!

21 Jan 16#49
Yeah then only reason I'd buy one of these things is if it made better coffee but it doesn't really, if you know what you're doing. What it does mean is less coffee choice, higher prices and more waste but admittedly that can depend on how Mich coffee you end up throwing away. Guess you may get more fresh coffee with these pods and a more regular brew but I still don't think that justifies the extra cost.

I purchased this very machine from Aldi, probably coming up to a year now and it's developed a fault, whereby water is seeping out of places it shouldn't. Moreover the pump has lost half its pressure or losing pressure due to the leak.
Considering I only have 1 coffee per day and 2 on the odd occasion it's had very light use. Besides this disappointing fault, the espresso machine was great, so much more flexibility, control, choice and affordable buying ground coffee. Although, the unit was very bulky and not coffee hot hot, otherwise it became very bitter.
Heat to OP, I've purchased this machine to replace it. Wonder how the Aldi return process will go...

Yep you can make your coffee long or short. The water doesn't run for a set amount of time - you start it & stop it when it's made the amount you want. Some of the pods say they're designed for people who want a 'long' coffee - as in more water.

Couple of people have mentioned that Tesco describe this as white, yet it is cream.
Another mistake seems to be "Whether it's a cappuccino, caffè latte or rich creamy hot chocolate, this compact and great looking coffee machine is ideal"
There is no hot chocolate pods for this, unless you want to buy some unbranded ones.
Still a great buy (I've bought 2).
I performed a search/find on their ebay feedback for these pods and even though they have plenty of positive feedback it's mainly in regards to the delivery and service. The very few comments that actually mention the taste of the product say that it doesn't taste the same or not as good as the original Lavazza pods which kind of put me off (personally) if I'm honest.

Three thoughts; I really struggle to see the difference between the coloured pods (why not number them?); and you need to start and stop the coffee flow (so mustn't get distracted). It's also pretty noisy.

Does anyone know if these machines have a quality control test run, using coffee pods, before being packaged and delivered?
The reason I ask is because I oredered 2. I opened the first one and the front of the machine had coffee stains. There was also coffee stains on various parts such as spout and the tub that collects spent pods.
I rang Tesco and arranged replacement. On repackaging I noticed that the white padded "bag" packaging was coffee stained too.
I've opened box 2 and everything looked pristine, until I looked inside - the white disc, with the holes has brown staining that scrapes off. I pressume this is dried coffee.
Both machines had original packaging such as foam inserts and blue tape. The water tank on both must have been new.
So I'm wondering if the machines get tested, but the first wasn't cleaned through, or if Tesco are selling reconditioned machines as new??
I don't think either of the machines were ones that have been returned to Tesco and Tesco have just put them back on sale without checking, as some of the parts such as water tank are pristine and some (if not all) of the packaging and tape has not been removed and reinserted or stuck back on.

"Mine had no noticeable signs of being used or tested before it got to me, it does sound like yours may be customer returns TBH."
If it had of being just one of the 2 that I bought, then I'd definitely think it was a return. But I really don't think it is a return that Tesco have just put back on sale. The packaging was too perfect (basically factory sealed), SOME of the parts looked brand new and other little things like the trial pack of pods were still sealed. I know that someone could have bought some regular packs of pods and used them before the trial ones, but it's unlikely that this would have occurred on both the machines.
The second machine looked absolutely perfect, so if it hadn't of being for the first one being so obviously stained, I wouldn't have thought about looking inside it. I even had to use a torch on the second machine to see inside it and spot the dried coffee on the white, perforated disc. Therefore it makes me wonder how many people thought to inspect the inside of their machine so closely?? I'd guess very few.
I have emailed AEG to see if they can explain why both have signs of use, yet are factory sealed.

Haven't opened ours yet to know for sure, but I read a review on Amazon the other day that mentions something that might be causing the problem you're experiencing:
"Updated Review: After having searched and searched to find out why the machine wasn't working it turns out it was a protective sponge in the water tank stopping the machine from working so that is why I am amending my first review.
After brewing my first cup of coffee I have to say that this machine is awesome, especially for me as I have dexterity issues.
Two buttons to press & an easy to use leaver, cleaning is a breeze & the water tank is so simple to use, this is a company who know how to not only make good coffee but such an easy to use for everyone machine.
Finally the only thing I ask of Lavazza is (with this model specifically) please put "remove safety sponge from water tank" into future printings of their manuals.
Awesome machine, would recommend to all coffee lovers."

oumk2001,
I'm 99% certain I know what your problem is. I doubt you've not left the protective sponge in as it's quite large and obvious to remove, but the suggestion is heading in the right direction.
I had the noisy issue with nothing coming out. The fix is quite simple. The water tank just needs pushing down a little harder!
I have another espresso machine and that water tank just glides in easily. This one needs a bit of a push!

When making a long black coffee it is hassle boiling a kettle and mixing with cold water so as not to burn the coffee, and if you run enough water through the pod to make a long black, you over extract and it doesn't taste very good.
Does anyone know if you can run this machine without a pod in it (so you get just the hot water coming through) without damaging it?
gilders
24 Jan 16#129
I wouldn't think there would be a problem running water through without a pod. In fact I would do this to clean the machine, especially if it hadn't be used for a while.
Another option is to just switch the kettle off before it reaches boiling point. Remember these capsules are only one espresso shot, so don't expect to make a large drink, unless you use 2 pods.

I've just gotten around to unpacking mine and setting it up. I see what you mean now about the protective foam. It would be quite hard to miss, being pink and all. I feel a bit foolish quoting that Amazon review now. Haha.
Thing is, I've flushed mine through without a pod to clear any manufacturing/testing residue and then proceeded to make a few cups with the sample pods provided and even though the machine appears to be flowing as you would expect it to, it is hellishly loud. I've pushed down as hard as possible on the water tank reservoir (it appears as flush as can be with the work surface that it's sitting on) but the noise is extremely loud even though the flow is good. Also, the various coffee pods I've tried so far (the red, striped brown/gold and pink ones) seem to come out very bitter with a burnt taste to them which seems to be in direct contrast to what's been said on here and in all the reviews I've read. I wonder if there's something wrong with mine or if I'm doing something wrong somwhere.
On the plus side. I'm really happy with the frother that came with it. Never used one of those before. It's great for a hot chocolate or mocha with marshmallows.
FNC888
25 Jan 16#134
How long are you running it for? An espresso shot is usually around 30ml, the longer you run it the more bitter/burnt the coffee will taste as it 'over extracts' the coffee.

I used the 'Frother' for first time but wondered if I'm doing anything wrong, as it doesn't froth the milk very much or it's something wrong with it. I get more success heating milk and using a small 'hand held frothing' mixer. I definitely don't think it's worth the £50 rrp appx. I'm hoping to set up the coffee machine today (looking out for the protective foam) and compare it with my 2 year old tassimo (another HUKD Offer ).

Oh, I didn't realise that you only used a very minimal amount of water. I was passing a lot more water through it than that. Well that explains that then. I'll try again later allowing for considerably less water. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the advice
Did you try the frother with the little cog style wheel on it's own in the bottom of the stainless steel jug? You have to use it without the separate smooth collar and only fill it to the lower Max level line and wait for an audible beep which lets you know that it's finished frothing.

26 Jan 16#139
Thanks for reply Jans. Yes, I used the cog style wheel with semi-skimmed milk up to the first mark. I've tried it a couple of times last night, don't get me wrong, it did froth but not very much. I poured the milk into my coffee (more milk than froth) and had to use spoon to get the rest of the froth out.
I also found this useful link on JL page, which said "Ensure that the whisk is the correct way round so that you feel the magnet pull the disc to the base of the jug". Incidentally JL have the frother on it's own for £59.95
Oh ok, I see now. I've never really used any kind of beverage frother prior to this, be it manual or electric so I can only really go off the result that was achieved with this one, I'm afrad. I have to admit, the froth did seem contained at the top and when the jug is tipped out there is a fair amount that isn't frothed beneath it, and like yourself, I spooned the froth out on top of the cup to finish. I thought that was the way it was, but if you say you can get better results doing it by hand I wouldn't mind giving that a try. If you don't mind me asking, which brand/model of hand-held frothing mixer do you use?
Yes, I noticed the price of the John Lewis AEG frother a few days ago when I was comparing prices on these while I was waiting for it to arrive. It is quite overpriced on the JL site, I think. Also, thanks for the tip on the positioning of the whisk, will have to make sure to place it the correct way around.

For those who don't currently have an Ocado account, there's a one off deal
£50 worth of shopping for £35, and they stock the Lavazza pods.
11 boxes, so 176 pods, so under 20p per pod for the cheaper £4.25 packs, or 22p per pods for the expensive £4.89 packs
to froth the milk, only insert the serrated collar (remove from the smooth collar if inserted)

Hi Jans. Would you believe I use a very old (another HUKD Nesquix freebie) battery operated milk frother, a bit like this one:-
Milk frother. I'm not sure how to upload photos here otherwise I'd show you a coffee I prepared earlier . I put 100ml semi skimmed milk into tallish glass container - 1 min full power in microwave, then whisked it with battery frother for a few seconds. The milk level went from 100ml to 250ml mostly frothy bubbles. I poured it onto a strong Azera Expreso instant coffee/100ml hotwater (with a dash of Hazelnut syrup).
Result delicious one layer milky coffee, top layer of lots of long lasting micro thick bubbles. I still haven't had chance to try out the coffee machine and it's pods yet.

Hi Charlie. I would never have thought one of those little battery operated gizmos would be very efficient but I've just watched a few youtube vids and they look like they do the job perfectly fine. I think I'll get one of those myself to see how it goes. The hazelnut syrup sounds so nice, I've never used coffee syrups before, only ever used the cocktail version, haha. Will pick some up next time I'm in Sainsburys.

Ours started leaking intermittently and has been returned. But we were going to return it anyway due to the unacceptable noise. It was quieter after pushing down hard on the water container but still loud. With all this pushing down something will give after extended use. I suspect this might be why it started leaking but could not verify.
The machine keeps pouring water until you stop it. It should just pour the correct amount needed for each pod otherwise you end up with bitter burnt coffee. Bad engineering for a consumer product.
The frother was a nice toy but it took too long and you could not use much milk. Who wants to be playing around with cog wheels and smooth collars. Not very user-friendly. We went back to our trusty £3 Ikea whisk. Wife likes whisking her coffee also.
For us it was not a great experience. But if you like it it was a good deal.
charlie brown to Sqsq
12 Feb 16#164
Thanks for your feedback Sqsq. Sorry this coffee machine didn't work out for you. I totally agree about milk frother being a 'toy', and like you we much prefer the small battery operated mixer.
First time we turned ours on (eg switch on the side) it was very noisy, but that soon settled and now it's fairly quiet. We just get a (bearable) noise when the "hot water" is coming out the spout. Re the amount of water per cup, I think you'll find it's not supposed to be automatic (like the tassimo), but lets the user control it to their personal taste - which I prefer.
We have decommissioned our tassimo as we enjoy the Lavazza coffee tastes more.
I just hope it doesn't develop a leak anytime soon, and have activated my 2 year warranty with AEG just in case.

Help?? Can owners please advise - I love my machine and recon the frother is brilliant - much better than the cheap hand held jobbies. My question - my machine pours what seems to me to be a small amount of water through the pod and then stops after a minute or so. It's less than a fifth of a mug say. How much water does yours pump through the pod into the cup?
ellives
18 Feb 16#166
Hey thanks for the response. I have the blue capsules - perhaps they're the ones that flow very slowly? I have tried others and while they may well have flowed more swiftly they didn't pump a huge amount of water through. In fact when I try and get more water through, it looks like slightly coffee coloured water rather than normal coffee. I'm still happy but just wondered if mine operated the same as others.
gilders
21 Feb 161#167
This machine uses A Modo Mio capsules, NOT Lavazza Blue. That could be why you're having trouble. If you mean you are using the blue coloured A Modo Mio capsules (de-caf) and it's only producing a small amount of liquid - remember this is an espresso machine NOT a coffee machine such as Tassimo. You are only meant to get a single shot worth of espresso from each capsule. If you want a mug sized drink then you'll need to use 2 capsules.
The milk heater and frother is great in my opinion. But it really does matter which milk you use. I usually purchase supermarket 1% milk (orange cap). This does not froth well. I have found B.O.B. milk (yellow cap) to be excellent - extremely frothy!

Hi Charlie Brown. I have just (attempted) to register ours on the AEG website and I'm not sure if it was successful or not. I have received an acknowlegement by email but I was under the impression that I would have needed to also submit a lot more information in regards to the product than it requested. There was no request for the model number or serial number like you would expect. Only the product name which only appeared to accept the name 'Lavazza.' I initially, I tried 'Modo Mio' but their system didn't accept that, only accepted Lavazza. It later requested my email address, name and contact details but nothing in-depth in regards to the product itself. Was it the same for you or have I messed up somewhere and should have used a different model name in the box? Thanks.

Owning one of these machines, and having just purchased a second, the very point for me is to make excellent Lavazza coffee. Seems rather odd to put a no-name brand in the unit instead, which I would doubt would be as good as Lavazza.

Sainsburys seems to be the cheapest at the moment at £4 for 16, (25p each)
Typo? Usually around 26p/cup.

I suspect that 2p each was a problem with either arithmetic or typing. Not credible.

Then drops the price again.

This machine takes only the A Modo Mio pods, not the Espresso Blue and not Espresso Point pods.
If you want hot chocolate the frother can make a very nice one, but small.
Still Hot chocolate tastes much better made with milk (imo).
~ Lavazza A Modo Mio Espria LM3100-BU Espresso Coffee Maching with Milk Frother, by AEG, White ~
Bargain bought one, thanks
One observation - it is definitely Cream, not white as the Tesco website describes
The frother is brilliant.
First trial run of coffee makes me realise that the Tassimo stuff is rubbish.
Flavour is what counts so slightly apprehensive now as well on the Ebay ones.
Frother can heat milk, heat & froth, even froth cold milk for milk shakes.
Picked up today. The coffee machine is light cream and comes with a selection of 12 pods. The coffee machine and the milk frother come in two separate barcoded retail boxes, bundled inside a larger "Limited Edition" box.
Three thoughts; I really struggle to see the difference between the coloured pods (why not number them?); and you need to start and stop the coffee flow (so mustn't get distracted). It's also pretty noisy.
That aside, great coffee and a bargain price.
-
I'm 99% certain I know what your problem is.
This why our's wasn't working.Took me a couple of goes before I sussed that was the problem
It needed a right good push down
Madcow
I've realised that as good as my espresso machine is, I rarely use it. But my new Lavazza makes excellent coffee and because it's so convenient I think I'll never end up only using it rarely.
Does anyone know if you can run this machine without a pod in it (so you get just the hot water coming through) without damaging it?
Another option is to just switch the kettle off before it reaches boiling point. Remember these capsules are only one espresso shot, so don't expect to make a large drink, unless you use 2 pods.
Did you try the frother with the little cog style wheel on it's own in the bottom of the stainless steel jug? You have to use it without the separate smooth collar and only fill it to the lower Max level line and wait for an audible beep which lets you know that it's finished frothing.
I also found this useful link on JL page, which said "Ensure that the whisk is the correct way round so that you feel the magnet pull the disc to the base of the jug". Incidentally JL have the frother on it's own for £59.95

We have decommissioned our tassimo as we enjoy the Lavazza coffee tastes more.
I just hope it doesn't develop a leak anytime soon, and have activated my 2 year warranty with AEG just in case.
The milk heater and frother is great in my opinion. But it really does matter which milk you use. I usually purchase supermarket 1% milk (orange cap). This does not froth well. I have found B.O.B. milk (yellow cap) to be excellent - extremely frothy!
I'm sure it will be fine.
