Product Description
This KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer (5KSM156BCA) in candy apple red has a sleek, simplistic and stylish design, and would look fantastic in any kitchen traditional or modern.
The Artisan mixer is very user friendly. The single attachment hub turns the machine into so much more than a food mixer. The motor is direct drive, the advantages of this are; quiet in operation, constant speed with any quantity, reliable, long lasting and energy efficient.
Everything about this mixer has been designed to make it look outstanding. Each machine is coated in baked enamel this not only makes the Artisan stand mixer easy to clean but prevents scratching and chipping easily.
Herbert Johnston designed the first commercial food mixer for KitchenAid. It was he who invented the original planetary action in 1919. This is still used in todays Artisan mixers the purpose of the planetary action is to ensure fast and thorough mixing thus producing a lighter, more aerated mixture. Every baker's goal!
Is this cheaper because of the glass bowl ? The s steel one is expensive on its own compared to the glass bowl as an attachment ; also the J Lewis one comes with pouring shield. Anyone knows what they sell for in USA for ??

Damn them. Obviously it costs a bit to export to the UK and convert for the voltage and plug, but that's taking the p**s.

I'm a professional engineer and keen cook. My wife bought me one of these as a surprise and I've never really warmed to it. I'd much rather have spent less money on a Kenwood or similar.
Not a bad mixer but nowhere near worth what people are paying for them.

Nylon gears, don't wast your money.

There is a nylon gear that supposedly is designed to break should the mixer blade jam up, the idea being the plastic cog breaks which saves the rest of the mechanism, motor etc. It is a replacable part.
Not entirely sure whether this is really an intentional feature or an excuse for using a cheap part that can break (but at least be replaced)

Was just about to say this, versus pricing I saw at Christmas in the US just now - sub-$200 on some colours!

John Lewis stock this if anyone wants to try a price match. Although you won't get the free gifts, obviously.
Definitely a very good deal for the Artisan, particularly as it comes with the glass bowl (also pointed out by Blue138 above), not to mention a free attachment. Heat!

Not sure why all cold votes since this is the glass bowl version which usually you have to pay separately for ;-)
