I keep an eye out all year for smaller items that can go in. I have managed to get a pair of men's socks in rolled tightly. Other great items for ladies is a good mascara, nail polish (make sure you know what colour is preferred) or even miniature perfume. For those special occasions, a necklace, charm (i.e Pandora) or for VERY special occasions- maybe a ring!!! Hope this helps

I only do it for specific crackers that have a personalised gift inside otherwise anyone can have any cracker!!!!

Doesn't that remove the whole point and fun in pulling a cracker though as the winner is predetermined?

If you want to win the cracker, let the other person pull whilst you just hold tight. 90% of the time, you'll win. So, if you want the other person to win, tell them that you've heard about this trick and you want them to just hold the cracker whilst you pull it to see if it works.

Good alternative to the random tree presents we usually have (only rule you have to take home what you win!).

Put false teeth in grannies cracker, see her scrabble round, checking to make sure they still have them in!!

And an extra tip - if you forget to put a scratch card inside, roll it and insert in one of the ends. I had to do that this year - oops

We filled ours with silly stick on beards! Less than a pound for 6 from Home Bargains. They were different styles and colours so we all swapped to find ones that 'suited'. It was a great ice breaker for us and guests. Lots of pics were taken. We have done the expensive cracker experience in previous years only for the hats and jokes to be used and the 'prizes' to be left on the table. We are planning next year's along similar lines.

Ha! Love the Pandora idea, but don't suppose my husband would be too chuffed! Neither would the kids if they were the lucky winner, they'd rather have the mini Mars bar or Lego man! Thanks for the suggestions, I've never thought to do these before, I'll keep an eye out over the year.


If you're doing them individually, what do you guys do about seeing who wins the cracker pull? We always have a bit of a laugh at the crud that comes out the crackers and it eventually all gets fobbed off on the kids, but if you're putting nice things in that are appropriate to individual people then does it take away the excitement of winning the pull? The stuff I'd choose for my mother in law would be very different to things for my 8yr old!

I bought 3 of these earlier, mainly to make an order up to £50! Loving the suggestions above... any other ideas of things to put in them?

And this year for the first time I challenged other members of the family to find something that they could put in a cracker for another member of the family. Someone received a pair of £shop glasses and were thrilled with them. You don't have to spend much, just know a bit about the person whose name will be on the cracker.

We bought these at full price and I put a scratch card inside each one. Great quality hats, jokes were the usual Christmas standard and the cracker certainly had a loud bang.
