Very hot imo. Wouldn't be interested in the phone myself but £69 for 12months of unlimited mins and texts with 10gb data allowance on top or the rrp for the phone itself is a bargain if you're in the market for it. Hot.

On the face of it this sounds like a really great deal.

The only question I would have is whether it is SIM free. The £699 rrp is for a SIM free phone from Apple and I doubt this one would be.

It depends on if your iPad is sim locked, if it is it will need to be Vodafone, if you bought it direct from Apple you are laughing. Also make sure the first sim you put in the new phone is the one you want to use

unlock it in year 2 , and get 5£ sim for that year youre still coming to 35 quid amonth over the 24 .

Not bad at all , but id question who actually needs unlimited ( iv got it ) , and if you were to rely on the 10gb solely youd be thorough it in way less than a month

not sure need 128 either

6 Jan 16 #59
Right, so a bit of man maths here.

Have got a 64GB iPhone 6 at the moment, paying £15pm for unlimited everything with Three.
Could get at least £350 for the phone.
And the resale from the 6S vs the 6 when I come to sell it would be around £100 more.
Plus saving £140 over the year on the contract.

So paying ~£770, getting back ~£590.

£180 upgrade cost...

Tempting

very tempted. Am on my last 2 weeks with vodafone (currently on a very cheap contract deal).
HOWEVER.
Vodafone signal is consistently rubbish. It is fine if I am home, but any travel/new places etc, it is like stardust.
No matter how attractive the deal is, check your signal first.
Like I said to the sales person, even if they offer me the bestest deal on the market, it means absolutely nothing if I cant get signal.

(just got off the phone to vodafone for my PAC code. Reason of leaving: poor signal. As soon as I said that, they knew there was no point trying to keep me.)

Thanks. I don't get it, I've never had a problem with credit checks before and have an immaculate credit report. If this lot messes up my credit rating I'm gonna be well p***ed.

I've also just noticed a £2.50 charge has been applied on the credit card I used for "verification". I'm pretty sure it's either smartphone company or Vodafone, but can't tell at the moment as its a pending transaction.

7 Jan 16 #125
Experian quoted my credit as being 98%. But I did worry that my purchase of the recent Galaxy S6 under the O2 refresh deal last week, which required taking out a contract then immediately cancelling it, would impact this deal.
I've just checked and can confirm that I too have a pending transaction of £2.50. I'd hope this is part of the credit check and won't actually be taken.

I'm not so sure. There is no difference on the box model numbers between this one and an unlocked one from the Apple Store. I haven't tried mine yet, so I can't say for sure, but I plan to use mine with a Three SIM anyway.
BrianM
8 Jan 16 #167
You can test it by trying the 3-SIM first.

I am just going by Vodafone Contract iPhone 5 - but I admit that was three years ago!

There is NEVER a difference between model numbers for any locked/unlocked for iPhones. Uniquely among mobile handsets these implement any locks by the handset itself downloading a preset "activation status" for that IMEI from Apples servers during first power-up. For iPhones supplied by Apple to Vodafone I predict this status will have been set to "lock to Vodafone"!

Similarly to unlock any iPhone the operators merely get Apple to change the settings on this "activation server" database - so no "unlock codes" needed!

iPhones need Internet access - either via their own WiFi or connected to a network connected system running iTunes - to activate!

Thanks for that. Good to know, as I couldn't really find a definitive answer online. I am planning to use my old (unlocked) phone with my Vodafone SIM, and my iPhone with Three.

8 Jan 16 #173
Yes - my online account shows 12 months. Vodafone sell the same product direct but with a £300+ charge up front for the handset. Essentially by going indirect you avoid that charge also have the ability to get £31.50 topcashback for plus membership.

You can get this from mobilephonesdirect as well however they are excluded from any cashback - its the fact that smartphonecompany pay £30+ in cashback that wins on this one.

I have been getting this deal for last three years and all iPhones were locked to Vodafone but unlocked free after 12 months.

Worth adding, although might be covered in last 9 pages, can get 20% off this via VEA. Makes it really cheap c.£50 a month

Oops that's correct. Apologies, did not read this was not from Vodafone directly. I take it they are not charging anything upfront which makes it a good deal.

When I got a similar deal on an iPhone 5 3 years ago Vodafone unlocked for free after only 2 months - so I cancelled after 12 months and was left with an unlocked phone.

i presume people should instantly drop to a SIM only contract after 12 months to get the free unlocking now?
sureshot

I haven't tried it yet, as my PC died and I haven't a chance to back my old one yet for the restore. Will report back one I've tried it. I found this article earlier, just to add more confusion. :stuck_out_tongue:

How to unlock any iPhone and use any SIM
phiras
11 Jan 16 #193
Just to report back to anyone interested.
First SIM card inserted was a three SIM. While going through the initial setup, I could see that I had a signal on the notification panel. Once I reached the activation page though, it told me that I had an "unauthorised SIM" and that I needed to use the one that was allocated (ie. Vodafone).
So in summary, this phone is locked to the Vodafone network from the very start, and not to the first SIM inserted.
TheHoodedOne
11 Jan 16 #194
I bought the iphone 6s Plus 64gb from these guys on Thursday afternoon last week, the phone arrived promptly the following morning. I rang the company up and explained I needed to use an EE sim in the phone. The guys on the customer service line where very helpful, and confirmed it was Vodafone stock, so locked on Vodafone for the duration of the contract (12 months) but were under the impression that Apple could unlock the phone instore. I rang Apple customer services who confirmed they would not do so, and always referred customers back to their carrier service for unlock codes. I've looked up some online companies who unlock phones, but the going rate for the iphone 6s plus seems to be £80 at the moment. No complaints about the service, the trader, or the phone itself which arrived in perfect condition.
BrianM to TheHoodedOne
11 Jan 16 #195
There are no "unlock codes" for any iPhone - the carrier (Vodafone) instructs Apple to unlock the phone. Apple changes their central database and the phone is unlocked the next time a different SIM is used!

Why pay £80?. If you WANT it unlocked in the first 12 months Vodafone will arrange it for £19.99
the porter
11 Jan 16 #196
Or £30 eBay unlock
zee744
11 Jan 16 #197
Vodafone will only unlock after 3 months for a charge of £19.99. I called them to confirm this
£30 from eBay, I've got mixed feelings about whether it will invalidate my warranty
StealthGreyRS
11 Jan 16 #198
Anybody think it's worth getting insurance with this deal one month free then £9.99.
Also anyone happy who has got this deal??
TheHoodedOne to StealthGreyRS
11 Jan 16 #200
I bought the phone last week, very happy with interactions that took place with the trader, and as mentioned by another poster, if Vodafone will unlock the phone after three months, that's brilliant for me as I can pop in my EE sim and use it as my main phone.
Regarding phone insurance, I've never done it myself, but then I'm pretty sure it's covered under home contents insurance for me anyway, so I can't really comment on that aspect.
BrianM
11 Jan 16 #199
If the eBay sellers have backdoor methods of getting Apple's official lock database changed then it is hard to see how it could!

Warranty for iPhones is done by the end-user contacting Apple - or taking it to an Apple Store. The entry from this database for the old handset will be moved to any new one they supply. If the old one is marked as "unlocked" so will any warranty replacement.

Perfect ordering process with smartphonecompany and easy migration to Vodafone. Great network in my area on 4G so I'm delighted - VF gets a lot of stick on coverage but I'm lucky to be in a part of the U.K. where that just isn't an issue - as long as my bill is £64 a month then it'll be smooth sailing

I ordered on Wednesday but was referred and had to provide additional documentation.

I did that but despite 3 emails I never heard back so ended up having to phone them. Awaiting new stock which should be in tomorrow and out for delivery on Thursday.

Customer Service could be better but can't argue with the excellent deal this is.

Whilst it's annoying my order was accepted when they didn't have any stock, and the website isn't clear about when stock is back in, I've phoned the company direct and they have answered promptly and been courteous.

They assure me I would know if there was an upfront fee of £100++ or if I was to receive a refurbished handset. I expect anyone with a fee or reconditioned handset made a mistake during the ordering process (or perhaps are trolling ...).

Having just spoken with this shower of ***** on the phone, I've now been told I won't get my order before Monday 18th as the "supplier" gave them incorrect info. The stock comes in on Friday 15th. Nice.
I placed my order on the 6th, waited 2 days for "approval from network" and then 1 day for "internal checks". I was then told that they had no stock and new stock would be in on Tuesday. Waited an extra day and rang them today - have been told that stock is now due on Friday for delivery on Monday!!
Every step of the way I've had to ring them, they haven't once contacted me - even though their initial email states they'll keep me informed/updated throughout the process. Total shambles.
I'm seriously thinking of just cancelling and buying one sim free from Apple/giffgaff.

13 Jan 16 #221
They don't look like the type of company to have a great back office setup from their website - one of those "if it works be thankful" otherwise it'll be a nightmare. Hope it resolves soon.

No issue on Vodafone - submitted pac last Friday and ported on Monday.
The 4G connection where I'm sitting is really good but I am within the M25 - speed test app had a download of 42mbps and an upload of 16mbps so this phone is quick
