Sorry, passmark links didn't come out in description:
Newer 14nm Broadwell based 3835U Pentium outperforms a Core i3-4005U:
But before ordering upgrades it's probably best to wait until the laptop has been received safely and fully checked.

I assume this is more than adequate for general home stuff (email, web, youtube) and SOHO (office, etc) ?

Yup.
Dunno about Sims 4 but the battery should be fine, especially with the low wattage CPU it has.
Looks silvery to me, I guess you can always return it if you're really unhappy with the colour.

Would this play Sims 4 well? Also what would the battery be like on a refurbished unit? cheers

is upgrading this too windows 10 a simple task and although the ad says upgradable is the machine capable and would it benefit from the upgrade.
does the upgrade wipe all the bloatware that is likely too be on there.
thanks

It my experience it is simple to upgrade to Windows 10, just allow a few hours for it to do it. That won't remove bloatware, that's a manual job.

Dead simple to upgrade to Windows 10 - it's all done for you. Can't speak for this machine but you usually see a slight performance gain with Windows 10 & it's much nicer to use.
If your connected to the Internet you will probably be asked if you want to upgrade when you first start up your laptop. You'll be asked if you want to keep everything or start a fresh.
Might be best not to upgrade immediately & see if any of the "bloatware" is useful.

Is this likely to have strong WiFi? I bought a couple of Acers from Argos Outlet a few months ago and they struggle to connect to WiFi upstairs, whereas my old laptop was fine.

I have never been asked if I want to start a fresh. I usually go to the Microsoft website in Windows 8, choose the upgrade, then it does a massive update over several hours.

Looks like the 10% off ends tonight (at 11pm?), so best not leave it later than that, to get it at £188.99
argh, i was going to buy it, but took too long deciding and the 10% offer has now ended

thanks captainbeaky, assuming i take the third option (im not saying i will) would this have any bearing on drivers or potentially have any adverse affect on the running of the laptop.
thanks.......

Yeah afraid so, I've clicked the expire button now.
Thanks for replying! Especially the CPU benchmark link. All things considered I think this deal is better, voted hot, may buy.

Ordered mine Friday night, arrived today. Really quick service. Not turned the laptop on yet but first impressions are very good. Wouldn't guess it was a refurbished.
For the person asking about colour - it is white on the lid and area around the keypad. I know the deal has ended, but in case this was still useful to anyone.
Thanks for posting! Saved me over £100 from others I was looking at.

Got mine today, its white too but nevermind.
Nearly didn't get it at all though, I checked the tracking and it said it had been delivered only we never got it. Phoned up parcelforce, they said it was left with neighbour, asked both neighbours they didn't have it. Phoned multiple times and didn't get many answers, they were going to continue investigating tomorrow. Doorbell rang late evening and someone from another street with different postcode (who had the same number house as us, but they actually delivered it to her neighbour) came around and brought the package!
Oh I forgot I got a laptop cover/case thing and a HP wireless mouse! Fully tested RAM and HD, both perfect, HD had about 2 days use, laptop looks brand new though.

Mine arrived today, i was expecting silver but tbh white does look really nice. I didn't start the laptop just unboxed it and to my surprise in the box was an hp black sleeve which i was going to purchase so thats saved me few £ and also alongside it was a hp wireless mouse.
Arrived ... Upgraded to Windows 10
Will be installing 4gb ram etc n then ssd 250 gb.. Should improve performance ..
But little disappointed with screen resolution..
I wish I had selected laptop with full HD screen ... Should be fine for MS office apps ..

Sorry to hear it's white and not silver white as mentioned in the Ebay description. They do have a 30 day money back g'tee if it's a show stopper, but the lappie looks to be good vfm.

hi, i updated straightaway to win 10 and all is fine apart from one nagging issue.
hp helper has updated several things including the bios.
i have some issues with the touchpad, this only happens every other day or so.
what happens is when two finger scrolling in chrome browsing, the cursor might flick to the very top of the screen, this then causes multiple tabs to open and multiple programs one being utorrent which was auto installed and the odd win 10 app, ive removed utorrent, why would it install utorrent?.
everything seems up to date via hp and microsoft and if i turn off two finger scrolling the is doesent happen
anyone having any issues of this type.
thanks,
joe.

Bear in mind they're 1st gen i5s, don't go on i5 alone, the passmark performance is a little below the HP laptop in this deal, so maybe not quite such a bargain is it first appears:

Might be best to put the SSD where the HD usually goes, then move the HD to the DVD bay.
