I asked Mr jobs from beyond the grave about the term "better". He said most phone were "better" than his, but there were plenty of muppets happy to buy his phones instead so he just took their money. BTW, he said he is currently using a Blackberry Priv and particularly liked the physical keyboard.

I've owned this phone for a few months; my two complaints:
1) 8GB ROM (3.6GB usable) is not enough for me, as many apps cannot be transferred to SD card w/o root which leads me to
2) Phone is very difficult to unlock the bootloader / nay impossible to root / flash with anything else. There is currently no update for lollipop/marshmallow for this phone. So you must use the Miui kitkat + any launcher you please.
Other than that, battery life and performance are tremendous thanks to big.LITTLE, the custom android skin is actually pretty good, and the camera can take fairly good photos.

Give it a rest, will you. The question is whether or not this is a good deal for this product or a directly comparable product, not whether this or isn't better than an Apple product.

Heads up for those that dont know.
Warehouse deals are covered by 12 months amazon warranty same as new items.
I had a phone play up after 10 months. Went on to live chat and was refunded instantly and asked to return phone within a month.
Bought quite a few items from them and only had to return 1.

Is it official about the 1yr warranty or was it just Amazon's good will gesture that they've refunded you?

Yes, being cheap and also being better than Apple.

I have this & agree with your comments however Lollipop is available (recently installed on mine) & beta testing underway for Marshmallow with anticipated release in February
Being old and needing a new phone I have no idea what Themoosetalking about. Is this phone suitable for an oldie?
Thanks

Yes if you are willing to learn :-)
if not try find an old blackberry or something like that .
It depends what you want it for really

I'm really not that bright at all so I'm at a disadvantage to any 'oldie'. I could operate this phone so I expect that you could too. You can get someone to help you set it up initially for easy access to your contacts, making calls, for texting, basic e-mailing and maybe even web access if you need it. You don't HAVE to use the APPS but once you get the hang of it I expect that you will.
Once it's set up it can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be, but setting it up can be a bit taxing for a newcomer to the smartphone world.
We bought Mum ( a pensioner for 15 years) a Samsung smartphone (very similar to this) for Christmas. We set it up for her and she is having no difficulty at all using it.
I expect her doctorate in computer programming and solid state electronics may have put her at a slight advantage, but nevertheless she still can't work the video recorder. ( I'm joking about the doctorate, by the way )

Basically, if you want to download and use 5-10 extra apps you have nothing to worry about, more than that and you will start running of storage space for apps.
You can extend the storage with a micro sd card, but not for most apps - good for video, big games, music, pictures.

avril123 - I would have thought so, assuming you are not going to fill up 3.6GB with apps - that is plenty I would think.
5.5" is a BIG screen - might be worth looking in a shop at something of that size screen, to make sure it fits in the hand / pocket. GSMArena suggests that Android 5 (lollipop) is available and Android 6 (marshmallow) is possible.
The iPhone 6s+ (plus) or the Samsung Note 5 are similar sizes and will be in shops - you won't find this one on the High Street. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=7243&idPhone1=6754&idPhone3=7431
My two cents' worth....I own one of these. Of course my experience and expectations may be different from other users!!
1. The user interface is Huawei's custom EMUI. It's not brilliant. Install Apex or something on there, as soon as you get it.
2. It's Octacore - but it still feels sluggish at times. It does, however, have a good built-in memory cleanup utility, and is fairly good with battery saving. However, don't be fooled into thinking that being Octacore is a guarantee of super-slick speed - this is a little disappointing given the spec.
3. If you're the sort of person that likes unlocking/rooting and installing custom ROMs...forget it. Unlocking is a hassle. I ended up going through a Chinese language Huawei site and eventually got the 16-digit unlock code - but it was a pain. Once you've unlocked, you will need to install a custom recovery. It's a bit hit and miss, and more often than not the stock recovery overwrites the custom one. Even once you're past that, the number of custom ROMs out there is pretty minimal.
4. It's a little chunkier and heavier than you might like.
All this being said, for the money, it's a good enough phone. It just depends on your expectation. I swap phones fairly frequently as I do software development on them, and this one got retired from my collection fairly early on. If you're a "tinkerer" and like messing around with phones, I would look elsewhere. If you're just a normal user with no huge expectations and are happy with phones the way they are when they come out of the box - then you're getting a reasonable amount of phone for the money.
Another option for the Android geeks to muck around with (and I include myself in that description!) is the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6. Similar spec, only about £15 more, and it's actually a ZTE Blade S6 Plus handset. Easier to root, etc..
Heat added for price, as I paid £140 for mine!!

thanks for the good advice there! I have a budget of 150...what would you personally recommend. I need a phone with sufficient battery life that can handle video streaming, games and internet along with decent audio and camera..not fussed about dual sim but need a memory slot and hdmi out.
Thanks in advance

I have one of these. paid 115. This is a bargain. I'd recommend this phone, I bought this as a kneejerk reaction to 3 wanting to charge me 60 quid a month for two years and havent looked back. I'll never have a flagship phone of any description again. heat

The only problem with any phone around the £100 mark, is it will be compared to the smart 6 ultra. I really don't see the deal unless you're desperate for a 2nd hand phone, with a lower res screen and less on board storage (android runs like crap with apps and services installed to SD). The only benefit is marshmallow (for time being) and dual sim - can you use 4g on both slots? One review said no...

Pound for pound apple can't compete. The Honor and one plus phones and others are killing apple and samsung. Apple need the blind following of its faithful to pay £600 instead of £100 as the basis of its business model- that is always how it has existed.

Wow got one for my husband and using it next to my iPhone 6 plus ... It's a whole lot of phone for the simple user. Camera a bit slow and not as good but all in all a total steal. Btw this thread was always about warehouse deal not new. Mine was supposed to have a 1-3 cm scratch. It's perfect. Thanks thanks thanks op!
