Word of warning if buying for a child under 15/16 that has their proper age set in their PSN account, they currently won't be able to play any of the Guitar Hero TV section of the game because it is deemed online and they have set the parental control too high. Higher than the PEGI 12 rating on the box.
No matter what you allow on your console (I have parental set to allow everything to try and get this to work) the game ignores that and only looks at the age on the account!! As a result, half the game is missing and more than half of the trophies cannot be earned.
I have been in touch with the developers though and they have done some testing on my behalf as they were not aware of this issue. They have confirmed that reason is down to the Mature rating the game has received in Australia and it is stuck like that for the time being. They have agreed a fix with Sony and have confirmed to me that they will be rolling that out with the next update due in February.

I've always had wireless guitars as I started with Guitar Hero 3, so can't comment on wired verses wireless. I will say that the dongles for these guitars are certainly weaker than their earlier counterparts. I'm going to solve this issue with a usb extension cable that will allow me to have the dongle closer to where I play (not ideal as we should just have direct connection like the RockBand new guitars have. Does anyone with those notice any issues with drop outs over PS3 guitars. The issues could be down to PS4).
I also only want a game that is a fun guitar game. What I do want is for it to at least feel like I'm playing a guitar even if it's not really realistic (the same way using a steering wheel for a racing game is more like driving but isn't really).
I do see your point in it not feeling fun, although I enjoyed it. I wasn't looking for what I had from the old games as those have been and gone, I wanted something new and that's what we got. This is called guitar hero so although rock is what people seem to expect, guitar can be anything. If RockBand had the same set list, then I would understand the issues raised because Katy Perry certainly isn't rock!!!
Guitar Hero TV will keep the game going for as long as you're in to it. The party pass for £3.99 is what you'll want for the occasions you have a party. It's not ideal to have transactions like this over individual songs to buy, but personally I prefer this approach as I generally ended up buying songs I already own the album for or a digital copy and so it means I'm double dipping getting the same song in a new format. I think this would be a good option to add for Singstar to be honest as individual songs are just getting too expensive now.
At £40, the game is well worth it. For the original asking price then I can understand the disappointment.

True, it will divide opinion, but my feeling is that it won't ever be anything like playing a real guitar without actually using a real guitar, and it also won't ever help you to improve playing a real guitar, it's just a game and meant to provide entertainment, nothing more, the fun factor is missing a bit from the previous games for a lot of people it's no coincidence why this is plummeting in price.
As i mentioned above, i think the real issue is the extra button presses required, in conjunction with a wireless guitar, in my house i have about 4 routers, all with multiple wireless radios, and the amount of wireless devices here make for a frustrating experience, and even when it does work, i feel its a bit of a chore on harder difficulties, i can't play real guitar, and i don't want to play real guitar, i want a fun game with a good learning curve, and this ain't it.

He's not on his own, the new set up is just devisive.
As a rather amature guitarist, I must say that playing Guitar Hero Live certainly does feel more like playing an actual guitar due to the clawing of the hand now required over the old five button set up.
What would have made it even better would have been another set of buttons further up the neck of the guitar to give you the movement akin to playing guitar. My son is way better at actual guitar than I am and says the same, he really didn't get on with the old Guitar Hero set up.
I think it's good they decided to make a change. Last thing we need is yet another lazy rehash of an old game.
The lack of band mode or multiplayer career campaign is a shame. I cna see why this is missing due to the Live concert footage only being able to react to one person, otherwise they would have had to have gone down the full split screen mode (which would be really hard to do well here).

if you can get it in store at same price would recommend that, amazon and internet is full of reviews where the guitar is faulty so would be easier to return.

I can also vouch for this,
I got one for Christmas, put the guitar together and neither of the innermost "fret" buttons worked on it, very frustrating as I couldn't even pass the tutorial! So I had to get my brother to send it back for a replacement. Amazon sent one out immediately without receiving the old one and delivered the replacement on boxing day - Great service!
Thankfully the second one works fine apart from the occasional signal lag mentioned earlier in the thread.

How does the credits thing work in this game? The default track list looks absolutely awful, but the GH TV list looks great.
dunc360 to liamhing
14 Jan 16#51
The credits are earned from playing GHTV which lets you buy single plays of specific songs after you accumulate a handful of coins. The career bit with the "live crowd" I am finding a bit dull as the sets are predetermined and often a bit pants - Girl band set and Skrillex set in particular!
On the GHTV channels you don't get that, you get the music video playing in the background and I find it far more fun and rewarding as it tracks your progress against other people live at the side of the screen so it can be both fun and competitive at the same time.
Yes it does

Got it for £44.99 at Smyths on Black Friday do the heck of it. I really enjoy it and literally bought it to play Four Year Strong (on the TV catalogue). Slowly getting better at it but I realised there's loads of good tracks to play along to on the TV section.
At £39.99 it's a steal.

i struggle with this game for some reason, could get high percentage on most songs on the previous versions on expert, but this, i miss a lot of notes, feels like the timing is out, have tried calibration to no avail, would have prefered a wired guitar i think
As for the change of buttons, i'm not a fan, the idea of guitar hero is that you can pick up and play difficult songs with a small amount of practice, this is a bit too much on the hard difficulty and i don't have the time or desire to learn it all again, it's not as fun for some reason, if i have to put in a lot of practice i'd rather just practice playing these songs on a real one
dunc360 to jayjayuk1234
14 Jan 16#31
I get this too occasionally.
I had GH2, 3 and rock band on previous gen and managed to play expert level songs without ever considering myself an "expert" as I muddled my way through most at that level.
I've been playing through this and sometimes I just lose sync with the song, as if the signal is laggy from the guitar to the console. I can't put my finger on why it happens exactly, but it definitely is missing notes when it should be registering at random points in any song I might be playing. Happens maybe once per 1/2 hour but it's only a small gripe as it works perfectly the majority of the time and i'm not precious about setting high scores, i'm just enjoying the fun on this one

Goddamnit GAME's website is terrible. It's randomly taking £1.50 of my reward points off the order, so when I try pay with GAME Wallet it says you can't pay with GAME Wallet when using reward points and to remove the reward points from the order. But there's no ability to remove it from the order. Tried starting a fresh basket, no luck.
Update - worked ordering using my phone. £39.99 is a great price, as much as I dislike using GAME they've had a few decent deals over the past few months.

I welcome the changes, the track list won't be to everyone's exact taste but it does cater to a vastly bigger audience which is smart marketing in my opinion, than previous games.
I just sit on the GHTV channel that most suits my taste and enjoy playing the vast majority of the songs. Each to their own though, I guess

Hardcore gh fans dislike that you can't necessarily play the same song over and over without the credits you aquire in game (or buy) to master it.
