Looking for Dimmable LED and came across this one on CPC. Looks good and is dimmable COB. As I'm looking for a quite a few bulbs the price ex-vat for more than 5 bulbs is £1.99.

Why would you want to be able to dim the 3.5w ones?

I agree with pibpob on this. ive just had all the issues with the low wattage problem on my dimmable light fittings. i even tried increasing the wattage of the mr16's to find the minimum level for it to fully work (as my transformers dont state a minimum) we even had 6 mr16's working off one transformer and it still wasnt right, however my solution was to buy 'gu10 lamp holders' and scrap the transformer completely as it was more hassle than i wanted. these were 20 for £7 on amazon

Yes and no. MR16 transformers designed for halogen lamps have a minimum wattage for stable operation. If you replace all the halogen lamps with LEDs you will probably no longer reach the minimum wattage. You can keep some of the lamps as halogen to get round this but as they look different the effect might be nasty.

Thanks for the picture. Don't think it would fit my soffit lights due to the length. Looks good though, must be loads brighter than 50W halogen.

Yes, my phone auto 'corrected' the part number, should have been LP0793607. Photo below shows one next to a CPC Pro-elec 5 Watt GU10 which is pretty much tungsten GU10 size.

I use the 9 Watt daylight version of these, cpc part number LP0786407, which are currently just under £5 each for 5 or more. Very bright (810 lumens).

These look good, tempted but can't see any dimensions. The picture makes them look much bigger than standard GU10's, so I'm not sure if they would fit in my light fitting. Are they much bigger?

That's not what I've heard. Apparently to swap to MR16 LED you need to change the transformers

At least make sense if your going to make a **** comment! ****.
Hi all. I've just bought a new kitchen ceiling light fitting which came with 4 x GU10's (halogen). They are 50w ( the max allowed per the warning sticker).
If I switch to LED's I assume I can buy ones that are >5W (which have a halogen equivalent of 50W?) My reasoning based on the basis that they emit much less heat? Thx
LED MR16 bulbs are direct replacements for halogen MR16. The same goes for any LED lamp marked with the equivalent model number.

I have MR16 halogen at the moment. Do you know if I can swap with MR16 LED?

Costco have similar ones on offer, £5.99 (normally £8.99) for 2 , I've just bought 12 for the kitchen , seem very good, 3 year guarantee, as always any problems just take them back for a refund.

You might want to invest in a head torch.

Can you simply swap-out halogen GU10s for these or do you definitely need a new transformer? What's the worst that would happen...these bulbs would blow immediately or would it kill my current halogens' transformer too?

Yes just simply swap. :-)

Your current halogen GU10's don't have a transformer(if you have a transformer you've likely got mr16's) though you will need to change the dimmer.

Brilliant price - thanks. Not that they last 30000 hours, at least the useless Philips ones don't, more like 30000 seconds.
