I'm against animal cruelty. Don't buy these they are from cadge hens

Personally i find that the conditions they are kept in has an effect on the taste. The more horrendous the conditions the more flavoursome the egg

I think the majority dont really care about the whole "caged" hens. Any supermarket ive been in is near on always sold out of the cheap eggs from caged hens. Best selling eggs by far. A lot of free range eggs have alot of fine print to them to, the hens arent as "free" as you think

It cant be that bad when they have the red lion seal of approval on them all.

We've had some organic eggs before from off a farm, where the chickens just wander about eating organic food only. Thats the only time I've found a difference in quality.

Last time I bought these they were very small I get mine in lidl now there a £1for 15 and perfect every time I own a cafe and use about 200 plus eggs a week

I know some people will dislike my comment & *roll eyes* etc...but...IMO there is nothing 'great' about the price of 'cheap caged eggs', especially when for the sake of <90p or less you can buy the same amount but 'Free Range'. Better life, taste....and the sooner supermarkets stop selling this shizzle/option to people the better for everyone! The 'budget' argument (that I won't go into, has been done to death on this site too) *Runs off to hide & escape possible abuse :smile: *

We have free range hens - I wouldn't touch anything but. You can tell a huge difference in the eggs. Our hens have play areas, climbing frames and swings!!!

Just on the topic of eggs, anyone know any places that sell turkey eggs? Fancied seeing what they was like. Id assume theyd have a big yolk like dug egg, and i really like those.

If you are so concerned about caged eggs, stop eating eggs.

Don't think you are some how a far superior individual because you eat free range eggs or meat. Your demand still results in an animal being slaughtered for your plate, so get off your (free range) horses!

I wonder how many people who always buy free range eggs then buy non-free range chickens. Or KFC, McChicken, or any other chicken dish in a restaurant. I rarely hear people ask "Is the chicken you use free range?" Like asking if the salmon is wild or the spinach is fresh/tinned.

I get mine from a local farmer where the hens just wander about. £1 per half dozen and definitely can tell a difference.

Hate to break it to you but millions of male chicks are killed every year because they can't lay eggs and aren't good for meat production. However I think a recent breakthrough could mean the end of it.

Sorry, but if it's at the expense of a maltreated caged animal, I don't think it's a bargain at all.

I could only ever eat Free Range or Organic Eggs as any others give me serious problems. There is obviously a quality issue with caged chicks and all the drugs they are fed that results in poorer quality eggs. Eggs are definitely a food you can tell the difference with. Image yourself locked in a cage your squashed into and never getting free - you would become mental - what makes it different for animals. These should be banned on health grounds for humans as well as animals.

I believe the male chicks are most often ground up alive and end up in pet food and in some countries, human food.

Everyone to there own perception of morality. Like many i only buy free range and no I don't eat fish chicken or meat so no question of eating free range egg then eating caged animals. But not everyone can think the same. I guess whatever helps you to sleep at night maybe good consciousness or Horlicks

Wow never knew that! I'm glad I'm veg I only eat eggs probably once twice a month! And no I don't buy ready meals 99% home cooked veg meals so egg is not part of my daily meal!
