There is a large market in laundered fuel - Red diesel where the colour has been taken out by filtration or similar. But the fuel is probably safe to use unless acid was used to take the colour out. Illegal of course.
However the suppliers of dodgy fuel (30,000 litres for £16k cash - mate) often use kerosene (heating fuel) to cheaply bulk it up- or neat kero if they are really bad.The kerosene has no lubricating properties and the fuel pump/and or injectors will soon pack up (less than a thousand miles - not immediately)
You may or may not connect your engine problems with your last fill, You might just get away with one fill if you were not empty when you last filled up as the some lubrication remains...or if the garage owner had quite a bit of fuel left in the huge tank when he bought the bad fuel.
Many smaller garages have a brand name outside but when you go to the actual pumps you will note that the branding is not there (the big name/brand is just there for the shop)- you might assume you are buying branded fuel but the owner can be free to source from wherever seems a good deal...............
I'm sure this place is fine though.
From my experiences I only buy Diesel from large supermarkets or if caught out, garages that have the name of the fuel on the pump itself.
I realise it is a shame to avoid small retailers who have almost certainly done nothing wrong....

I appreciate your attempt to educate but surely this is a rising trend and not fully established practice?

you do realise, not so long ago, Tesco had problems with silicone in their petrol. Big chains are probably worse!

Near me but not near enough. Anyway, looks like all fuel prices about to come down again with the supermarkets leading as usual. We have an Asda fuel station opening in a week or so, wonder what that will start at to get the customers in?
If you check fuel prices in Ireland, you`ll see that 80-85p is the price for diesel nationwide.

Wow a deal a few miles away from me! Good find! I usually just drive right by as prices are usually way above other stations.

Why is fuel so expensive in UK????
WessexUnderwater to alexorza
3 Jan 16#29
Because of the level of duty I guess.
Anyone know the postcode for the garage in the OP?

In actual fact fuel in the UK is some of the cheapest in Europe, it's just the tax and duty that is added to it that makes it more expensive. This is such a well known fact I don't know why you asked the question, perhaps you live on an uninhabited part of the country.

I'm not sure you're old enough to drive a car. Thanks for the deal though, in spite of the fact I drive a petrol car.

10.01 litres is correct amount. If it was 99p a litre and you bought 10 litres it would cost £9.90! As the other .9p per litre would be 9p for 10 litres add together you get £9.99. So for extra penny you get 0.01 litres add that to original 10 litres access total cost is £10!!!!!!

Well, £1.05 can be got around the Wear. My last fill up was 103.7 at the ASDA promo before Christmas. But we never seem to have the offers they have in the midlands.

If you are in the Midlands area then diesel and petrol are 99.7ppl from harvest energy.

There's a Golf in Stratford London... Never again, sold contaminated petrol to a number of cars resulting in £100s repairs.

I've read this three times and it still doesn't make sense. Trading standards would be all over garages if they were overcharging customers.

For once a good fuel deal near me!
(Also do tyres there as I found out earlier having got back from new year away to find a flat tyre!! Good service from the garage and amazing fuel prices - diesel for less than £1, very happy!)

There's a station buy me where diesel is still 126p and petrol is 116 ish, what I don't get is that the forecourt is always full. I only go there because it's the only place my works fuel card is accepted.

About time this started to happen. Diesel prices to bulk buyers have been lower than petrol for over 4 weeks. Trouble is, most forecourts have bulk purchased well ahead and have been caught out by these oil price drops. With February fast approaching (when most refineries go offline for 4 weeks for an annual refurb), I expect it will be late March before we see the price reductions that we should be seeing.
And, yes, some forecourts really are cashing in, unless they have stiffed themselves with high priced supply contracts, which is entirely possible.
