Also honestly, there is no point having a 4k screen on this laptop. It will just drain your battery quicker, and games won't run well at 4k with this GPU. Also at 15", the difference would be negligible. You can't even watch Netflix at 4k with it.

Why bother having 4k on a 15" screen? It's like saying a 22" HDTV should be 1080p even though it's a small screen.

Also you would probably want to replace the HDD with a 1TB SATA SSD, and add another stick of 8gb RAM, taking the total cost to about 1k

Why? there's really no need for more than 8gb for any real reason, unless your planning on running multiple high memory applications at the same time, and lets face it, 99% of people buying it won't

It is a good price, I can't comment on the Build on this particular model, however the build my 2015 Dell XPS 15 is phenomenal - can't fault it at all.

I bought this PC but with the 256GB SSD option for 859 from the same seller. This thing is seriously fast. And yes the one I bought does have an empty M2 slot. Whilst I agree about the lack of necessity for a 4K screen the screen itself is stunning.

I have this laptop (1080p version). I can honestly say its amazing. been using it for solid works and games and it handles all very well.
as the other guys have said, laptops aren't ready for 4k and really is such a waste IMO.
in terms of build, it is a solid machine. except I don't like the soft touch material as it gets smudges and loads of fingerprints. but the while thing feels really sturdy

But XPS is another completely different series, which cannot be used to prove the Inspiron will be good build.

Its only £749 from dell themselves admittedly with 8Gb Ram instead but some get Dell VIP .
I want to know if the battery packs dell have to extend laptop life work with the new inspiron, I have been looking at MSI but this dell just has such good battery life it seems like a winner for a laptop.

Nice deal! I wouldn't accept less than 16gb ram myself but then I use various pieces of music software (Ableton, etc) which takes advantage of the extra ram/power.
Had my current Dell Inspiron for very nearly 3 years now so it's a little long in the tooth. Build quality of that is ok. It's pretty heavy though - not sure what these new ones will be like in comparison. I bought my laptop and have only taken it out the house about a dozen times! I like the flexibility though.
Something like this may well kill the macbook pro itch I have right now...

I'd really love to get one, but I really like the XPS 15. The only problem is we can't get the XPS 15 with 84 wHr battery + i7 + 1080p screen, that combination just doesn't exist in Europe (but does in the US).
Maybe getting the Inspirion wouldn;'t be a bad idea, and just get some Ultrasharp thin bezel monitors

I have the previous model (Inspiron 7548) with 4k screen and honestly 4K is great for everyday computing with Windows 10 scaling, so much so I hate going on standard HD laptops now  This updated model has a much better graphics card and a larger keyboard and is cheaper than Dell sell it themselves! A mate bought this exact model from this seller before Christmas and has been happy playing all his games at decent FPS on HD resolution or lower and bumping back up to 4k for everyday use.
b1koni
29 Dec 15#34
buy it from Dell themselves , its cheaper if you talk to a sales rep
Shame about the 4K panel, the 960m won't be able to drive it and I find turning the resolution down makes things look terrible in windows.

I have this laptop, except it's the 16GB 128GB ssd/1TB hdd version. I didn't buy it for gaming but anyone that is thinking of buying it for that then don't hesitate. I use it for coding in visual studio and running a local sql server. Since it's so capable at gaming I use it for that too.
I'm a big big PC gamer so I don't tend to settle for anything less than high settings and 50-60fps and this thing handles everything I throw at it at 1080p AND at 60fps, of course there are some exceptions but those are few and far between. 1080p looks perfect on the 4k panel with no downscaling blurring you normally find when running non native. Source engine games such as portal 2 and left 4 dead 2 run around the 50fps mark at 4k.
I have to say the 4k panel I think is worth it. Everything looks so sharp. Windows scaling has come a long way so running at 200% scaling looks fine most of the time, blizzards battle.net client for example doesn't scale so just be prepared to put your face to the screen to launch a blizzard game.
This model will have the m.2 slot free (mine came with a 128GB ssd installed) however do note that although it is a m.2 it is NOT pci-e and is instead sata3. The xps 15 on the other hand has full pci-e m.2 port.
Battery life is acceptable, I don't have any solid numbers but if I was to guess i'd say 5-6 hours. gaming on battery is actually quite alright, nvidia's geforce experience by default caps fps to 30 when on battery so you can expect to get a good few hours out of it. Also you can undervolt the cpu and integrated intel gpu by a stupid amount using intels xtu software. They must be using some really conservative numbers.

Owned this for a while. Some negatives include poor/average build quality, and although it has a 4K screen don't expect to be gaming at that resolution with the 960m card, because it's just not going to happen. For the spec though you're getting a heck of a lot for your money, and with the added benefit of being able to play most triple A games at High settings @ 1080p. This should be smoking hot, in my opinion.

Tried the gtx750 the other day, more than twice the power of the 960m. I find it ridiculous for nowday needs even at 1080p. How can you make it with the 960m and on ridiculously small 4k screen??

PC specialist will build this and more for less. there are serious complaints about the build quality, the keyboard and trackpad, as well as the screen being a lottery on whether you get a good or bad one.. its a good machine but be wary its not perfect.

Have another look, the 4K screen needs to be ordered on demand but for about the same price you get everything above SSD plus a better warranty, dead pixel warranty options etc.. or you can get an i5 6300HQ which is better for gaming than the i7 for less.

If you drop a standard Full HD screen from its maximum 1920x1080 resolution to something like 1280x720 the picture will look rubbish because it's trying to render two display pixels across every three screen pixels, which means the middle pixels just become a half-way interpolation between the two colours of the other two pixels. That makes everything blurry and washed out. Other resolutions will be a less exact multiple and will look even worse!
On the other hand, a 4K (3840x2160 pixels) screen is exactly 4 times the resolution of a standard Full HD 1920x1080 resolution screen, (2 times in both height and width), so if you drop it down to 1920x1080 each display pixel can take exactly 4 screen pixels (2 wide x 2 deep) with no need for interpolation. That should render nearly as well as a standard Full HD 1080 screen.

I'm sad to say it doesn't, I've got a 4k screen and play at 1080p on it looks significantly worse than on a native 1080p screen.
Also for anyone else reading this, I'd definitely advise against a laptop with a 4k screen as I've got a desktop with a Gtx 980ti and games don't run that well at that resolution. No idea what they'd run like with the card in this laptop!

No difference other than the added RAM. This laptop is incredibly easy to upgrade (1 screw to remove the back panel) so you'd be better off getting the one from SaveOnLaptops for £80 cheaper and put your own extra 8GB in.

I'm not sure if this laptop has the new HDMI 2 spec? If not then then it will only output 4k over HMDI to a monitor at 30hz, which is jerky and not a great desktop experience.
So, if you're hoping to use this machine as a desktop replacement with a 4k monitor then check re HDMI output first.
