Are you sure? Mine didn't have batteries in. And you need to read the instructions carefully - you select one of the lower buttons and then one of the numbers from the top selector. ie for a fart (!) push the action button, bottom right, then 2 from the top selector. You'll get a burp. The push 2 again and you'll get a fart. Hope this helps! :-)
