Price has dropped even further now, best time to buy and the warranty will ensure peace of mind for the next few years. Richer Sounds will provide a six year warranty for the same TV, but their price is an extra £70.

Please don't compare to your 4k LED TVs for under 500 quid. This is a whole new ball game, and the only real improvement to TV viewing in comparison to the existing technology.

John Lewis will also price match

I have 4k TV (not an Oled) but would hapilly change for 1080p OLED. 4K is fine but still very limited in content. What is available looks great but I would sacrifice but of extra resolution for OLED blacks.

To be fair, the OP specifically describes '£500' 4K TVs, basically the cheap end that just attracts 'megapixel people'...

OLED is incredible, but I have just bought a high end LG 4K TV (Prime/Full Array Local Dimming/HDR etc) and that compares very well with OLED. I wanted 65", and don't use the room it's in enough to justify best part of £4,000, so decided against OLED. Everyone is right about lack of 4K content though, it's ridiculous when it's been affordable for around 2 years now that there isn't more available.

Decent price though. Having seen a 65" flat LG OLED in John Lewis side by side with other LEDs, I'm smitten! Resolved to wait until late this year (black Friday time) in the hope of getting a 2015 55" 4K OLED for £1-1.5k

I would still wait at least few months as new models are due out from LG and Panasonic as well. Will push prices down further.

Sadly still way out of my budget. Maybe next year.

I got Richer Sounds to price match today, which is even more peace of mind if you prefer a well known retailer. But you have to select the 'instore' price match option on the John Lewis NKU web page.

Laser is better than OLED, it uses the purest source of light. OLED will be the next cheapest option to improve picture quality though. Mitsubishi seem to be the only producers of laser based tv.

I hear sony are still improving their LED tv capabilities and not sliding down the OLED route. Sounds like they believe there is still mileage in improving the existing LED to compete with OLED.

Every year we hear we of some new TV tech. Just look at various demos and believe your eyes and if you think it's worth paying an extra £1000 or more for something that looks slightly better than a much a cheaper one....well, you are in the luxurious position to splash the cash.

Paying a £1000 for some thing that is much better and will last several years and is used by many daily seems like a good extra investment.
But each to there own I guess

Most of the time you would be right. With regards to OLED you are not. I would actually compare the improvement as CRT to LCD, in other words a massive improvement, I don't think I have ever looked at a TV and just said wow and stayed there for a couple of minutes. They are though still very expensive but I am hoping they might come down in a couple of years.

I'm hanging on to my plasma Panasonic, waiting for those 4K Panasonic OLEDs with HDR to fall into a reasonable price bracket then it'll be 65" TV here we come! There's no point buying a small 4K TV, even on my father in laws 58" 4K Panasonic (LED), it's pretty tricky to tell if the source content is 1080p or 4K unless you're uncomfortably close to it. For 4K content to really shine it has to be on a big screen!

on everything, I had looked forward to large screen OLED for years and at first it did look good but I could see more detail on my Bush LCD TV. The blacks were black (apart from low light scenes where everything looks awful) but it didn't make the picture speechlessesque as I had expected for years

it overblows everything and you lose sharpness, the model was the EF950 and there's a part of me that wants to try a 1080p model just in case it was the poor upscaling and processing

gutted about OLED now and doing something I thought I would never do - considering a SUHD

on the EF950 and all other models there is banding and what is called vignetting on dark scenes (left and right hand side of the screen is wrongly black in places and darker in others, commonly called dark blobs)

I'd advise you don't go looking for it but if you do, search for '5,4,3 and 2% IRE slides oled problems

on this model the 930V there is digital noise reduction that cannot be turned off (see the review at hdtvtest.co.uk for proof). I think if you got a really, really, really brilliant panel then things WOULD look great

I'm tempted to try a 930V as to be honest it's the model that people least complain about so may have the least issues, rather than getting a JS8500

Ok I'm with you and yes my research did reveal this but I can honestly say the 930 is the best picture I have ever come across. I have owned a number of sets in my time and a number of projectors all of which I have pain painstakingly calibrated but none of them come close to the imaged produced by the 930 (you can not buy an absolutely perfect TV set they all have flaws)
But if you can afford it and have the room get one of these the 3d (which I wrote off years ago) is also excellent

The panasonic 55cx700 (va lcd panel) uhd looks good
For £800 , seen it in pc world, picture looked very contrasty.
to be honest until you take a tv home and try it in a dimly lit room, you will never know if you will like it.
in a brightly lit showroom, all the tvs are turned to maximum brightness and look good.

the hdtvtest review revealed very very good blacks for an LCD and it does have a high contrast ratio but if you're willing to spend or save more and don't want 1080p OLED then the JS8000 can be had for £1349 and has HDR and does full hd 3d which the panny doesn't

Hi mate, did you get a 930v? If u dont mind me asking why go for the 930 over the 910 other than price? I thought the 910 was supposed to be an improvement?

the 910 is an improvement on specs with it's 10 bit panel but it apparently does not have 10 bit processing (explains why the DCI-P3 colour % is identicial for the two sets). The 930V is 10% brighter than the 910 but on this occassion it's just about price really

anyway I went to order it and was out of stock at sonic, then same at marks electrical so decided to go for the 920V 4K version - it's the closest to the UHDA premium spec at 446 nits peak brightness (can actually go brighter in the right conditions I believe)
Thanks.[/quote]

hi, almost zero chance of LG doing that but I hope they do for people who paid a lot of money who were told it had a 10 bit panel (anyone would obviously assume 10 bit processing a given). The 920 had two huge yellow horizontal bands (both 1/5th of the tv each) middle and bottom. HDR didn't add anything compared with my PS4's 1080p feed. Vignetting and low light banding was poor - completely spoilt THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

when these OLED's are good they're incredible but until they fix these problems I'll be owning a a FALD LCD. Good luck, the Hisense K720 is on sale @ Amazon for £999 the 65" and is THE best price to performance tv available

now, early reports from David Mackenzie who has calibrated the Sig' G6 2016 flagship are that uniformity is no longer a problem and for the first time he would have no problem recommending them - it's NOT eradicated but practically gone apparently so if you have a 2015 OLED get that thing sold now. We don't yet know about vignetting/low light banding people have asked but there hasn't been a clear reply yet for some reason

good luck
