That's usually my experience with these things, but I have had one of these for about 8 years which I use only sporadically. I tend to fully charge before and after use and it seems to be holding out just fine.
NiCad is a bit rubbish, but at this price I should have bought another just for the spare battery.

I just moved home and all my stuff was packed away, got the argos 12v 13.99er as a quick stop gap, given it a bit of a bashing really, but the 3hr charge time was getting on my turnips so bought the twin batt li-ion pack from wickes for 50 quid, quite impressed.

I bought one around 4 years ago and only replaced it a couple of months ago. not as good as my new lithium ion one but did plenty of work with it as a diyer

You must having been using it almost daily for it to last so long. These Ni-Cd batteries just die a very quick death when not used for a wee while.
