BT 8500 Cordless phone, supposed to be the best call blocker phone around, i've been looking for one for a while and not found it cheaper anywhere.
Also available at Amazon for same price.

Good price! My old pa has one of these and I crack myself up when I phone him to be greeted by a recording saying ' this number is being screened by BT Guardian - please say your name followed by the hash to be connected ' I'm all out of the ppi / talk talk / Indian call centres now - he just answers and says yes I know it's you
Heat added

Me thinks its the BT lady's British accent that scares the Indians calling in. They quake and run, leaving no message...
Feel like my teach is talking to me, my head goes down when I call myself and I forget.
When doing Google phone verification, you have to switch all the fancy stuff off ie guardian and disable stop ringing between certain times.
Possibly warnings from Visa&PayPal about account, suspect it won't get through. Any thoughts?

Been thinking of getting one of these for months but a significant number of Amazon reviewers thought the sound quality was poor and Which agreed saying "Sound quality on calls and messages could be better".

We have one and these are great phones.
Though cold callers do get clever these days since last time they quoted 'mum' and tried making me answer :smirk:
Dastards should've known my real mum only phones me on my mobile!

Yes, that's what I wanted really, but I thought at this price it was silly not to get one, and I can just carry on looking for a triple at a decent price and then pass the single on to a family member.

I have a set of these, yes sound quality is worse than my old Siemens phones it isn't very good IMO , but on the flip side i haven't had any annoying calls since installing it, don't use a landline very often nowadays so not really a problem , got the triple set for £34 off Amazon so was worth it at that price.

Bought these for my grandparents. As my grandma suffers from dementia there was no way I could set it to use the optional reject method. Instead I set the phone up with everyone who might legitimately call them, family, drs, chemist, carers, etc then set it so that it rejects if you're not on the list. When it rejects a call my grandparents don't even know it's happened. Callers are played a custom message. Works a treat!

Bought a refurb trio pack a while back, best money I ever spent. Nuisance calls? What nuisance calls!!
Setting it up, I input all the contacts from my and my wife's mobiles, so family and friends didn't have any hassle when they first called after getting these.

What happens with withheld callers? My neighbour rings to see if her son is here and hers is withheld, would it block her?

If the number is not on the accepted list you leave a message, then it plays the message you can either accept or decline and it will then remember to accept/block the number in future

Got a similar set more advanced version from BT on trial basis, have blocked 95% of nuisance ppi calls with out having the guardian feature on.

Sorta defeats the object if you set the handset to automatically accept withheld numbers in future

These phones require caller-id service to be active , maybe this is why there are so many "refurbs" around ??
Can get the more basic but still very good bt7600/7610 on that auction site ~ £25 for twin set.

I bought my refurbs from my usual source for phones, they're like new.
Thanks. Think I'll give it a miss as if I accept it then all withheld numbers will come through.

Sorry I misread, you will need to add the number, it will let you answer a witheld number but they leave a message first, then will block the next one

know your neighbour well enough ask her to dial your normal number by adding the prefix 1470 to your number. That releases that releases his/her number to you and the call guardian treats it like any other call by letting it through if it is in your phonebook or intercepting call as norma
As an aside I have made it clear to my friends and family that if they call me and they withhold their number then I will no under any circumstances accept the call. They have all been told to dial 1470 followed by my number if they want to speak to me
