Needed something small and portable to leave on for a bit of background noise, if we pop out for an hour or 2, and this looked ideal.
Asked the dog, he said 10W would be fine for this purpose. Purchased. Thanks OP.

Great deal and voted hot but not ideal for portable battery use. Either you use disposable one use cells that will cost a fortune or invest in rechargeable batteries and this will cost a fair bit making paying more for a speaker box with a li-ion battery pack more logical especially runtime. This is really about using from a mains socket, kitchen, bedroom, garage, workshop, shed etc. Also if it comes with a AC to DC transformer plug with a low voltage DC cable to power it, it is safe to use in the bathroom by running the DC cable under the door. I wouldn't buy it for battery use as there are better options.
Doesn't look like it has a headphone socket. The front socket is a mic socket so is it some sort of karaoke device too? I guess the mic socket can be used as a line in so you could also connect this to a PC for sound output etc. Pretty versatile. Also it looks like the mic in is for an audio overlay so you could still use it to play bluetooth music maybe and PC games for example simultaneously. It may only be wired for a mono mic though possibly so you wouldn't get stereo from your PC if so.

15 Jan 161#43
In fairness though 10W for a little box like this is quite generous. Your never going to get 600 watts from a small device that runs on 'C' batteries. Most televisions nowadays even very expensive models don't deliver anymore than 10W per channel. Even some sound bars deliver the same. This is 10W collectively so 2x5W but still pretty respectable.
This expensive option is only 2x12W
and this one only 14W in total (2x7W unless there are more than 2 speakers)

A lot of small devices, dab radios, internet radios and small speakers are less than 3w output. Has this got LED lights in the speaker enclosures that flash with the music?
Looking at that TEAC manual it seems to have 2 aux inputs, another rear usb for charging as well as a FM antenna connector at the back. Still no headphone socket though.
Got this today, very pleased with it for the money - its abit bulky but its going in the garage - even a usb port on the back of it to power your phone. It does come with a power adaptor so no need for batteries!

Amazing piece of kit. 2x 3.5mm AUX inputs on the rear. 1x USB Charging port for phone etc.
It also looks nice, very stylish and good quality.
bonzobanana
18 Jan 161#101
Quick delivery. Seems really nice. More volume than I need but not much more. There are 2 rear firing woofers which I hadn't noticed before. The speaker enclosures in mine have the LED lighting mounts but no LED lighting but I think the box shows it without the LED mounts.
It would have been nicer if it had a telescopic aerial for fm reception but instead you get a wire but that would be my only criticism really.
I was using it to output the sound of my laptop and noticed the mic socket comes up as an input device via bluetooth and confirms its mono wired. Might be a handy feature for recording sessions using musical instruments where you can record wirelessly where ever your computer is.
One really good feature is using games/emulators on phones. Many games come alive with decent sound. Headphones are still better but certainly a lot better than the speaker in most phones if your not using headphones. Bass is much improved even over most headphones. If you run emulators for arcade machines you can get that nice deep bass sound that you used to hear from arcade cabinets.
Says on the label that the rear non mp3 usb is 500mA output but the mp3 usb is 200mA so if your charging a phone etc it will be much faster on the rear usb than the front.
I'm using kodi now to play a bulgarian radio station to the gb-5000 in the background while I use the laptop for general browsing. I'll probably be able to configure it so kodi connects to the speaker and my normal laptop speaker is used for general laptop sound but not looked into that yet.
Actually seems a much more useful item than I realised.
Sound quality is pretty good but maximum output level is not really ghetto blaster level but certainly much better than many small audio devices of a similar type.
One other thing is there is no obvious brand labelling on it at all. The Bush name is not on it. On the rating label at the back it may say Bush and also mentions Argos but that is it. The only logo on the front is a large Bluetooth logo. Considering the Bush brand is not seem as particularly good I prefer it this way to be honest.
Da11as
18 Jan 161#102
Dont forget the groove along the top of the unit, a very convenient way to stand a tablet or phone while placing music via Bluetooth or via the AUX cable.
The sound quality is quite powerful, nice solid base, even on full volume the speakers do not distort.
If you look at the two Styrofoam packaging inserts, there is a cut-out shape where a microphone would be placed.

Passive or active that's where the bass is coming from and its quite a lot of bass with the mid range and higher frequencies coming from the front. Whether they are directly wired to their own amplifier channels or just a circuit that splits the frequencies inside I don't know I've not looked. It's respectable bass performance though I think for a small unit.
bonzobanana
19 Jan 16#113
Have you tried it with batteries or another power supply? Could be a power supply issue or could be a failed component regarding cleaning up the DC power supply when it gets to the PCB i.e. a capacitor. Best of luck.

Sounds like Argos have worked a returned item on you. I've had a "new" camera for £99 with a repair ticket stuck on the rear screen . LongPockets
20 Jan 16#116
Neither of those things. It is just a shape in the enclosure that helps the bass response of the single wide range speaker unit. There is no crossover or other circuitry, and no "woofer" of any kind. Just a simple "reflex" port, as found in many small speaker boxes. Enclosure design to enhance bass response is widely practiced at all levels of hi-fi quality.
Da11as
20 Jan 16#117
The speakers are ported/vented, the system uses sound from the rear cone of the speaker to increase the efficiency of the system at low frequencies generated by the woofer.
LongPockets
20 Jan 16#118
That's pretty much what I said, except there is NO woofer. There is a single wide-range speaker each side, with a bass reflex port to enhance the bass response. Speaker enclosure design is a big subject. I used to build my own boxes, but the world has moved on a bit from the effort to get accurate reproduction of the original sound to pumping up the bass with sub-woofers and so on. You can see the same reflex ports on a lot of the smaller quality hi-fi separates speakers, often forward facing behind the grill cloth.
Da11as
20 Jan 16#119
Lol, you and me both, I was building speakers 30 years ago. The Bush unit has 2x 4" full range drivers by the looks of things, it will cover the entire audio frequency range without the help of other drivers.
There will be no crossovers, no midrange or tweeters. Instead each speaker will have a small cone called a whizzer built in surrounding the voice coil and main cone, this design gives a full range including high and low frequency response. Including the port/vent at the rear is to increase the efficiency of the system at low frequencies, genius idea really.
bonzobanana
20 Jan 16#120
I stand corrected. I can see from the Freestyler spec its just listed as 2 x 4" speakers but still the bass is driven to the rear with little bass it seems coming from the front. Very effective bass too for a little box. However from what you have said the speaker is effectively 2 speakers in one almost integrating the crossover circuit so the whizzer fires mid range and high frequencies forward and the larger main bass speaker has its bass directed to the back of the unit. Seems like the modern approach to cost cutting everything. Integrating 2 types of speaker in one actual drive unit.
Da11as
20 Jan 16#121
The full range single driver cone design has been around for years, its nothing new, gets used for small compact design systems.

bonzobanana
21 Jan 16#125
Yes but not all full range speakers have whizzers. My original point anyway is that bass is driven to the rear of the unit through the rear ports and is very effective level of bass. I did assume it was some sort of cross over arrangement which clearly it isn't but there is good separation. 4" speakers are a good size for such a small unit.

It's all relative. 10 watts is a pretty decent output for a small boom box like this (if it's a real power figure). 600 watts would be a pathetically small amount of power for a large rock concert.

It also looks nice, very stylish and good quality.
The sound quality is quite powerful, nice solid base, even on full volume the speakers do not distort.
If you look at the two Styrofoam packaging inserts, there is a cut-out shape where a microphone would be placed.
sound is OK, lacks some mid range but its fine for just having some music on and that, won't please the serious audio-philes though.
for £10 you just can't complain. I love it.
I guess as it's out of stock, no chance of a replacement either.
Mine works perfectly well
by the way, there was no antenna or antenna cable supplied with it
There will be no crossovers, no midrange or tweeters. Instead each speaker will have a small cone called a whizzer built in surrounding the voice coil and main cone, this design gives a full range including high and low frequency response. Including the port/vent at the rear is to increase the efficiency of the system at low frequencies, genius idea really.
Anyone else have the same problem?
I went to buy another today as so impressed but none left!
