I know we're all aware this is coming but hopefully this helps confirm. just spotted this in the sale aisle of my local. I played the daft lassie and asked if the laura Ashley set was 70% off - SA adjusted the 70% off sign so it could no longer be seen (she slotted a white bit of paper in) and said "no - the 70% off promotion starts tomorrow".
good enough for me!!

Oh no I would never be that awful. Having read what I wrote again it does sound terrible the other way... but no I meant I acted clueless to a 70% sale.... I didn't want to ask outright as I've heard staff are not supposed to let on. As it was she was a very nice lady. I could never talk about retail staff like that -or anyone for that matter. I'm so embarrassed how it reads now - and i'm sure your not the only one who may have read it that way. oh dear.

I think OP may have been referring to herself (playing the daft lass that didn't know anything about the upcoming 70% sale every year by asking about the Laura Ashley sets...)

I hope that's what she meant anyway! Benefit of the doubt and all that.

Heat for the deal if your store has anything decent left - nothing but junk left in mine.

Worth the hype? Not really. I think Boots have realised people will buy anything if it says 'Sale'. I remember this sale being much better in previous years. Haven't bought a single thing tonight! Money well saved. Hopefully others found what they were looking for :stuck_out_tongue:

I had that once they gave me 5.00 in boots points refunded me £10 and eventually got a replacement as the items were OOS at the time, it was a good deal too on scooters that were reduced by 1/3 and on 3 for 2 so they were really helpful just anoying I had to keep going back to the store to sort it out

Nah, they said they'd see if they could re send, but obviously all the stuff has been discontinued, so they gave me money back & some crappy points on their card thingy :disappointed: i got an email saying that it had reached store though, so not sure what happened :disappointed: bit of a joke considering i drove there wasting my time & money for nothing, they could have just told me before i made the effort to go down there :disappointed:

St James Centre, Princes St, The Gyle over last week.

Maybe they know Scots are tight lol send excess there

Or maybe the latest stats... Scottish debt per person is on average 100% more than England average of over £4000, excluding London and the South West who are slightly more than Scotland but not double Scotland, which is crazy.

I've been in several stores ALL have cages restocking all the 3 for 1 xmas deals, must have several warehouse full of xmas stock to shift.

All overpriced crap imo, even with 75% off as Boots licence alot of the brand names and chemist up their own concoctions - its Boots brand without the Boots label.

I bought the my stuff when 50% but had no idea it was going to be 70% the next day until looking at HUKD, so took it back to a different store and asked to use my coupons which I'd left at home. But to do that it all had to be refunded. When she put things thru till it went to 70%!

strangely loads of stock seemed to appear at both straiton edinburgh and fort kinnard. even more than there had been in the 50% off sale. there was so much stock i arrived late 9.30 at straiton and there was loads of champneys, covent garden sets , and quite alot of mini club clothes left considering that there were alot of people already there. enough for everyone as long as you arrived within the first hour. the staff were lovely and were kind of saying this too.

kelly_o_fanatic
13 Jan 16 1 #236
I got two of the champneys hampers, no way are they worth £60 but £18 is a bargain considering you get the Hamper (which I know the two people we are giving them to will reuse)

What annoyed me was that so much had been opened and stuff taken out, so there could have been more for people to buy but obviously they couldn't because the stuff wasn't in it. The shelves were empty and there were random bits from bags but nowhere near as much as had been emptied, so it looks like things had been pocketed knowing that they wouldn't set alarms off and (i am guessing as i wasnt there until late) using the crowd to disguise it

Well I am glad I didn't bother waiting up

I went to local big store as I was going past anyway, was 1ish so I wasn't expecting anything and when I walked in the shop looked like it had been attacked by a swarm of locus! When I actually had a proper look though I found quite a bit on lower shelves at the back etc.

I ended up spending just under £90 and saving over £200. I also did it in two transactions and was able to get double points and 250 extra points on the second one (given with receipt from first transaction)

I only bought things which will suit certain people, and know exactly who is getting what and when, didn't get tempted by the bargains!

Only disappointment is that they don't do the cooking range so nothing for me, had my eye on a few bits online but obviously that never happened. Ah well, money saved since I don't really NEED them
Shelbel83
13 Jan 16 2 #234
It really really bugs me how people moan about what others are spending.

I save all my points and I put money away every year ready for the sale. Yes I spent £220 in cash today and around £70 of points.

Yes we had bags full however that wasn't stopping others from getting what they wanted and no it wasn't greedy. We went to 3 different stores.

We have lots of teenage nephews and neices. We are a low to average income family. The boots sale means we can get nice gifts for our family members that we wouldn't be able to afford otherwise.

And there was lots of lovely items the Laura Ashley and ted baker sets were beautiful. The men's boxers and deo sets were good value - the most be paid was £5.40 per set and the boxers alone would cost us at least a fiver so my husband got some for himself. He won't use all the product but we donate to the homeless.

All I'm saying is don't judge - it's the 5th year for us and long may it continue

Well I've been - got there about 11 and was out for 12 (this is good for me!).

Didn't even pick up a basket as couldn't see anything I wanted the first look round.

However with my 500 points for a £35 spend from the recent mailing still languishing in my pocket, I thought I had better have another look.

One thing that was mad was there were dozens of the £60 Soap and Glory sets and they were not shifting even at £18. There is so much product in there but I still didn't feel tempted. However next to these was a £60 Champneys hamper and despite passing it by the first time, decided that it wasn't bad at all for the price of £18. It is a real wicker hamper (badly spray painted) but I have dreams of having a picnic with it in the summer and there were 5 full size products, a candle and a pair of socks. Not bad at all.

Made up the rest with some of the vastly overpriced kitchen stuff to get my total to £120 which came down to £36 at the till and so I got my 500 points.

TBH without that coupon I would have passed the whole lot by but at least I can say I have been and seen

The fact that I am sat at home rather than at Boots shows what I think of this sale these days.

There is a nagging voice telling me to get down there.....but for what?

I got the things I had my eye on at 50% off rather than lose them when it went to 70%. And even then it was only a few items.

I refuse to believe that is it because from the selection available, it REALLY is pants! I'm hoping it's not fully online yet as there is no 'Gift' or 'Toy' option under the categories yet and surely they haven't sold out of everything online so early on in the month. another coffee for me and possibly 3 more after that

I can't believe how different it is this year , not that I am ever quick enough anyway to get the ''good stuff' but hardly any ''good stuff'' anyway this year and I was just about to go to bed at 3am and then noticed it was online so wasted over an hour looking around just in case and the only thing I REALLY liked was removed from my basket as OOS anyway , when I first went on there I thought it was just a kids clothing sale , hardly any toiletries , much less than previous years , got a few bits anyway just for the sake of it whatever 'it' is lol but I would have preferred my SLEEP to be honest as I thought I was ''being good'' by NOT waiting up for the sale and then it caught me out anyway

Not going to hold out much hope for instore tomorrow either , but only as I am PASSING one to pick up a couple of parcels I will pop in at leisure in the afternoon and see what absolute carp is left by then seeing as there was not much good stuff to start with ... I usually put away for next year for my daughters and they do look forward to all the 'smellies' I get them but have been getting less and less over the years as not much worth grabbing really and I am not a fill your basket before the sale starts online or queue up outside a Boots in the early hours sort of woman as I don't need to clear the shelves , just like to have a look in case there is something nice , especially the Sanctuary sets etc but nothing left online anyway , so goodnight

Had a wee look but most of the stuff I tried to add turned out to be out of stock. The one thing I did add I'm not really that fussed about so I'm just going to leave it (even if I save a few quid of something I don't really want, that's a saving). I'm going to try again when my local Boots opens. My local is just a little one though so I'm not hopeful there will be a great selection. It's worth a try though.

Website came back up a short while ago. Well, if that's the "70% off sale" then it's very dissapointing. Fragrance wise, the only 70% offers seem to be on Yardley, Impulse, Charlie, Ferrari, Old Spice and the kids packs. Otherwise still the same price as before - some 30% off, some 50% off.
Maybe more stock in-store.

13 Jan 16 #103
No, it doesn't empty - I've added the items to my basket in the evening for the last 3 years, and it saves and then reduces the price when the website is back online. If you are really quick and keep refreshing the page you will get most items in your basket. Can't swear it'll work this year but you could try....

voted cold for "I played the daft lassie". Can't stand people who are so disrespectful to retail staff. You can tell a lot about people by the way they treat and talk about retail and hospitality staff.
sparkles5 to ecosse87
12 Jan 16 14 #47
I think OP may have been referring to herself (playing the daft lass that didn't know anything about the upcoming 70% sale every year by asking about the Laura Ashley sets...)

I hope that's what she meant anyway! Benefit of the doubt and all that.

Heat for the deal if your store has anything decent left - nothing but junk left in mine.
Firemountain to ecosse87
12 Jan 16 3 #61
That is not what it meant! " I played the daft lassie " is the OP speaking about herself acting is if she didn't know that the 70% off sign was there etc So you've unnecessarily voted cold and had a dig at the OP which is totally unfounded. Being Scottish yourself I'd have thought you'd have known that!

That's it decision made...for the first time in about 5 years I'm not going to queue up at my local store first thing in the morning! No where near as much stuff left in sale as in previous years - lots of Soap and Glory vanity cases and Sanctuary gift sets. Good luck to those who venture out early Boots has always been very good to me and meant I could have most birthday pressies and Christmas pressies covered at a fraction of the cost. It will be all the Christmas gift sets, they are half price at the moment which is a poor discount given the pre-xmas offer was the usual 3-for-2. At 70% off it's worth getting items you know you can give as gifts next xmas.

I know people that went last year and glad I stayed put. unless you want something specific which is a actual bargain and not inflated RRP, then fantastic. I normally do a S&G set shop each xmas but didn't bother this year and Mrs still has one from last year.
