I think I found that Hunter last night, he totally kicked my a$$....I think I was worried about the Fr. Gascoigne fight as I'd read about how he was one of the toughest bosses, I suspect he probably isn't...

Draw him to the stairs and watch him drain his own life by using chikage, if you're lucky he will glitch and get stuck on the stairs and die. If not he will eventually let his health drop to about a third without using a blood vial, then you can finish him off using the cannon and the dust that boosts firearms damage (you will also need to make blood bullets). Normally I'd not cheese a fight, but this is one enemy that deserves it, such an unfair fight that feels so out of place in this game.

I've got to say that the difficulty is certainly ramped up.
Like with Dark Souls II I've managed to get the DLC whilst at NG+ and boy have I had my ass whooped. Lost 190k and 130k tonight. I really don't remember feeling so out of control in this game. It's great!

pull him to the stairs, he hurts himself with a blade, stay patient, once at 25% health on him you will have to fight him.... dodge like the wind brother

Holy blade, dodge his attacks as best as possible then try to charge up the thrust attack to full (R2) and let him walk into it. repeat it 4/5 times and hes done

winter lanterns! oh man, that ethereal singing gave me shivers

Oh man that hunter is a badass. I think it only took me two tries to kill him, but must say I kinda cheated. Discovered (by pretty much running away) that he is very reluctant to go beyond a certain distance down the stairs in the cathedral. About half way down he backs away slowly up the stairs. I used those opportunities to pick at him with leap attacks, shots and molotovs. Occasionally he will follow you all the way to the bottom but he NEVER comes outside the cathedral doors so you can even attack him at the doors, but his attacks can hit you through the door/walls and he does crazy damage so you have to be careful.
And I'd agree with your gazza assessment. He's fast but doesn't have high health or defense and the music box helps a lot, particularly if you time its use properly.
Oh and I almost forgot, though I also really struggled with a couple of chalice bosses (particularly chalice amygdala and pthumerian descendent as it took me ages to work out an effective strategy), the thing what killed me the most was the winter lantern on the bridge in the nightmare of mensis.
Man I hate those things.

Beat the game twice, 120+ hours in and still never beaten that hunter
DavFlan
20 Jan 16#48
Think Gazza's a simple fight when you know how, more the speed of his second form that catches new players out (I beat him because he got stuck in the wall after a leap attack) because until that point you can near-enough take things at your own pace. It was Shadow that I had the worst time with on my first playthrough, again absolutely demolished them on the second run though.

20 Jan 16#47
Ohhhh it's close. Much faster paced fight but you don't get one-shotted as often by Orphan as you do by that tentacled ****

I was exactly the same. Beat cleric beast first time and gazza second time (that said, I found gazza much harder in NG+ and NG++). Amelia gave me real trouble though first playthrough. She just hits so f*cking hard that I couldn't get enough damage in without risking being destroyed... and then she heals! Don't remember how I got past her in the end, but eventually managed all bosses on my own. Conversely I found her much easier on subsequent playthroughs.
What a great game. None other than the souls games give you such a feeling of achievement and satisfaction with progress.

Good luck with Orphan of Kos, folks! Closest I've ever come to breaking something because of a game. Old Hunters is great and absolutely roasting at this price.

The only issue with the crystal weapons is you can't repair them, but you can upgrade them and then regain the full durability.
I steered clear of them for that reason until those two. Once they were defeated I put them away and went back to the trusty battle axe.
Kaz00ie
20 Jan 16#38
I'll have to try that as they are the only thing preventing me from the Plat.

20 Jan 16#37
I hated those two on NG. Spent a solid four hour playthrough being continuously wrecked and wondering if I'd ever get through the game. Never had a boss before or since who I loathed fighting as much as Ornstein and Smough. Racked up a fair few souls during this process though!!!
Changed to the crystal halberd and that did wonders. Within a few tries they were both toast.

Just beat Father Gascoigne after 5 attempts, great game so far. Don't give up on this, I paid £37.95 for this on disc a week ago and it is worth it already!

I'm not criticising you here, but I've never understood the issue with Father Gascoigne.
Vicar Amelia caused me problems and after struggling for a while (10+ tries) I decided to go back to the strategy I used on the first turn and then abandoned straight away, being the tank strategy.
Worked a treat and had her after one more death. Ironically the tank strategy nearly did her in first go but I thought it was pure luck!
I wonder if those who struggle with Fr. G. are using a build which is not strength dominated.

Thanks for posting this, didn't think it would drop in price as quickly so it's a nice surprise.
I'm also slightly confused about how to get to the DLC part. I've finished the main game completely so do I now just use NG+ to get back to cathedral ward so I get there at level 70 or whatever my character finished on?

I understand that, you can obviously play it however you want, you just get a different experience. It's better to experience the art style of Bloodborne by making it easier than to give up completely because you can't do it, and miss out on a truly beautiful world
daddyblake
20 Jan 16#27
Thing is I don't have hours to try to do something. I work full time and play a lot of games online, I enjoy a challenge but if something's going to take that long I'd rather just hop into co op and get past it.
I really like the setting and art style of Bloodborne and its world which is the only reason I want to play it through.

20 Jan 16#25
Part of me is tempted, if that's the only way I can get back into it, but (from memory) I've got a massive amount of hours logged on my save, I'd rather not lose all that
daddyblake
20 Jan 16#22
Think I might give Bloodborne another go, I gave up quite quickly as couldn't beat any bosses without coop...but then again nothing wrong with that as coop is fun.
nodtomc to daddyblake
20 Jan 161#24
Personally I'd prefer to beat a boss without coop because it makes it too easy. Half the fun with these games is the crushing difficulty level, and punishment of mistakes. Coop tends to make the bosses like they're on easy mode.
Persist with it, is my recommendation. The frustration creates a massive sense of accomplishment when you finally down a boss you've spent hours dying to

£6.98 if you use CD keys to buy some PSN credit.
I'd love to go back to Bloodborne. I stopped playing in May, because of exams, and now I've got no idea what I was doing before I left
