there's a reason why the price of media has dropped and guessing by the comments most people last used a blank disc back in 1885..i only use them now to back up photos or if someone wants a copy of a home movie.
i was gobsmacked when i spotted 50 verbatim in Tesco for under a fiver.
also i dont think the pricier the disc makes a difference in quality i think i had a dodgy batch of maxells back in 1970 where out of fifty discs i had to make 5 cat scarers!

They are also good for keeping the blackbirds off your cherry trees and strawberries. :man:

'-R' disks are the same as '+R' except they cannot be burned over multiple sessions, they are single session only disks. People tend to shy away from them as older technology was not compatible with these disks.

really? -R was the most used for dvd backup as a nearly all players never no issues with them. +r & +rw can be formatted and added too and thats the only good thing. I occasionally use +rw do do the work I need to do then copy the dvd to a -R due to the dye being of superior quality.

Not quite.
On a technical level (too deep for this discussion) there are some important differences in the two formats...things like error correction, defect management etc. The tl;dr is that +R is superior. If disc quality is the same and compatibility is not an issue, always go with +
That doesn't account for disc quality, dye etc. No idea what these are like.

It appears these are from the last century for storing small amounts of data before portable HDD and cloud storage was available

These are great for scaring cats in your garden - hang them from string. Not sure what else they can be used for

the only brand i have found that works in my Mazda car CD player!
2nd Class Blank DVD Media / “Duplication Grade” non-Archival Discs
Mixed quality media, average 75-90% of discs tend to be good. These discs are not suggested for archival data or video masters. These are best suited for data that can be replaced easily, such as secondary backups or data/video distribution. In bulk, can often be purchased at low prices.

I've not burned a disc for about 5 years, I guess I'm not alone either probably why they are so cheap nowadays.

Why the hell is this being voted cold? I use DVDs for burning CCTV at work and any deal at less than 10p each is a bargain. At 4p these are a steal. Wonder if this is nationwide?

Because you get what you pay for with media. If you want something to last, cheap discs aren't the way to go.
