No it was nothing to do with the surgeon or the op! And no I'm skin didn't heal natural as with any scar it will always leaving a mark behind but from my experience bio-oil left my once very dark visible scars practically invisible!

If you're going to get stretch marks you'll get them, I tends to be hereditary. I used palmers cocoa butter religiously for my first pregnancy and got none. I've barely used any this pregnancy and so far still have none. Even though I started out at 7 stone, have gained 2 and a half stone and am measuring 40 weeks and I've still got 1 month to go! Moisturising generally can help with the itching no you get from stretching but any will do!

A doctor can pretty much prescribe what they want but as Bio oil is not medically licensed for any conditions and not part of the national formulary, prescribing it is discouraged. I suspect the vast majority of doctors would never prescribe bio oil and even if one did, it's certainly not proof of it's effectiveness.
If they had to prescribe something would choose the cheapest so probably a big bottle of E45 or suggest to the patient to simply go buy some themselves.

Ok my stretch marks are still there,but one thing I can vouch for is its fab on scarring!
I had a small op on my stomach which I had visible stitches for and I can honestly say that reduced the colour and appearance by 75%. Every ones skin is different so it's worth a try.

Sorry but that doesn't mean the bio-oil helped. Perhaps your skin healed on it's own and the surgeon did a good job on the stitch. Without testing against a regular moisturiser or no moisturiser, we can't for say for certain if and how the bio-oil helped. The fact that bio-oil claims to be very effective against both scars and stretch marks yet you only perceived a benefit from the scar suggests the bio-oil didn't make much difference.
It's sort of saying you got better from an illness because you took a pill when in fact the pill could have contained nothing i.e. a placebo and your immune system overcame the illness itself.
Just use any basic moisturiser and massage the area to promote circulation and prevent dry skin. Much cheaper. :smile:

Massaging scars helps to reduce their visibility, any oil which acts as lubrication for that massaging will have the same effect. Doesn't matter if it £1 a litre vegetable oil or £100 a litre snake, I mean bio oil.
Dry skin will also be made oily by any oil. If you have dry skin, maybe lay off the sodium laureth sulfate.

Please do not waste your money on this product. The first comment is absolutely spot on.
One of the the main ingredients is actually derived from duck fat and has no evidence to back up the scar or stretch mark reduction claims. The oil is also extremely fragrant, so it will do more harm than good for your skin.
