Well I have seen....ha, Kodi access every sporting event...sometimes takes a while to find a perfect stream but most of the time it's great.
Don't know about films but this is android, literally everything is accessible somehow.

Well it will make it more time consuming fixing stuff when it always breaks. When it works it's good but I've found free to = wasting a lot of time. If you expect instant working no problem streaming & must less time consuming, then pay for a subscription service.

Kodi is clunky on these cheap boxes.
They don't have the grunt under the hood to run the program correctly. Yes they can decode h265 and output 4K (kind of as they won't do 60hz or HDCP2.2) but that's the GPU decoding.
I have seen a lot of these cheap boxes over the past few months and people complaining of Kodi being slow, clunky & unusable along with the complaints of "I can't find the latest film in HD" and "the boxing stream didn't load". At the end of the day it's a cheap box, with cheap internals trying to access knock-off material by people who don't understand what they are doing.
I use Kodi everyday as my TV tuner because I have my satellite connection running through it, I have it as my media centre as I ripped my blurays/DVD to a NAS , and also use it as a games emulator for running some older N64 & Mega drive games. Kodi can be an amazing bit of software when matched to the correct hardware, unfortunately these cheap boxes are not that match

I have one of these in the kitchen, bought about a month ago and there are a few things to be wary of:
Kodi does not launch by default so on first startup you're dropped in to an Android desktop. If you don't know what you're doing this can be somewhat disconcerting. I thought mine was broken and I know what I'm doing.
Updates are destructive, so do them before setting everything up. I learnt this the hard way.
Turn off hardware acceleration in Kodi if you want to be able to skip back and forth. With it on, the box crashes every time you skip back.
Half of the plugins don't work or are out of date.
There's no way I can find to upgrade the Kodi install so you're stuck on 14.2.
The remote control is nice but it has no transport controls, so you have to use the on screen ones.
Other than that this is fine little box for £20.
Any questions, let me know and I'll try when I get home.

Much more than kodi
Not just for kodi but you would be wise to invest in 2gbRAM try the 168 box or the mxlv box WiFi is pretty useless, newer boxes boast 1000 LAN, Tronfy boxes are the most stable around the £50-£60 with Bluetooth 4 all you need is a mouse

They supply an adaptor to your country, however you can buy UK power supplies if you don't wish to use it.
Always buy Amlogics however as they are open source, Allwinners are closed source and are riddled with bugs and issues which can never be fixed because of it.
So many custom roms, kernels and dual booting methods on Amlogics it's worth paying an extra few quid, especially since the one I posted also has bluetooth (which as people have already stated, is essential for a good remote).
Shouldn't touch Allwinners with a 10 foot barge pole, the worst of the worst.

Showbox and Mobdro are all you need to Install onto the BOX and away you go to have access to Latest TV, Movies & Sports for FREE. Simple as that, and no setting up, configure etc like you need to do on KODI.
Yes, KODI is good etc, but you will get all what you need by installing these 2x Apps onto the Box with having the trouble of setting up and config etc.
Kodi allows you to add film, tv and music addons so in theory you don't have to pay for anything, in reality you actually get a poor experience if you don't find a quality ip streaming service and pay for it. That's if you want live streaming TV channels. If you want VOD (video on demand) then showbox and mobdro are ok. I've never found reliable HD live TV streams without paying, that's my take on it.
If you want easy, HD and reliable then pay for a subscription detailed somewhat in the thread above, otherwise mess about with addons that break, that buffer and have a generally frustrating experience. If you're more tech savvy such as myself you can put up with it and fix it, however I have little patience and found paying = working all the time = saving time = less stress.

None of the addons that youa re talking about are supported by either the manufacturer of the box, the seller of the box or the developers of Kodi.. That means, when they break, you are SOL unless you actually know what you are doing... and they WILL break.

No you're entirely wrong. EU law was passed recently that exonerates anyone from legal prosecution because of streaming. So you can stream all you like, the only people that can suffer legal problems are the hosts of streaming services.
Therefore it's legal, law is law and whilst it can pander to morality in this case there is no moral question to answer as the law of the land states it's legal. It's up to yourself whether you feel morally confused or not, the law implies strongly you should not concern yourself with it. If and when the law changes then you can concern yourself morally.

I got a Nvidia Shield TV for xmas and that has impressed me hugely. Runs android but is a proper version of Android TV. It's slick, works well the remote is great being bluetooth so no IR receiver issues.
I booted it, went to the play store and installed Kodi. It loads in 2 seconds from sleep and Kodi runs sweet as a nut, no hangs no bugs, does 24hz (23.976fps) for TV shows and films (no juddering).
Supports with HDCP 2.2 and to be honest it's faster than my media PC which I have my TV running through!
Yes it's £120* but you get the remote, the game controller and peace of mind that it has been built by a proper company, with proper support and licences and will be upgraded as time goes on. http://shield.nvidia.co.uk/android-tv

Im assuming the more expensive octo core boxs on ebay are the dogs do dars ? I dont mind paying a ton if it replaces sky at £80 per month
It's a complex situation as it's possible to pay for services whereby the ISP has to know the server info to block it, if you pay for a service then there is a risk it can be taken down, but it's less likely to do so until such time as too many subscribers are on a service which gains attention from the authorities to take action against it, there will be multiple people offering subscription services. Free services are taken down much quicker as free = more users, more attention, quicker take down.
Music is essentially free now, if you don't want to pay, then you simply don't. The same is happening for TV shows and films. Which means the producers of such material will have to change their business model to accommodate this change to try and attract revenue. Spotify, Deezer et al very similar price models and I'm sure it won't be that long before someone makes a service which is a repository for all existing available material since music and film was first recorded and therefore a set monthly fee for a reliable service will be in place.
Gaming was one of the first areas to go subscription based, Steam, Origin, uPlay et al all exist now and streaming services such as Nvidia Go exist. Overheads are very low as it's only packets of data transferred and the upkeep of the servers, no physical copies exist, and can be replicated easily. You make the media and replicate it multiple times ad infinitum to various subscribers.

I've experienced their reliability, it's nowhere near as good as a paid service and also streams are poor quality when watching football. I've never seen anything through Mobdro that gives a channel list and it's as easy as changing channel and 95% of channels are in HD. An iptv sub gives you exactly that. Once you experience that you won't touch free streaming again unless you can't afford it.
These deals imply that free streaming is better than it is, you get what you pay for with free streaming, in comparison to Netflix and Sky/BT free streaming, stinks of dung.

MKV is a container, we wouldn't know what codec was being used.
Totally depends if Allwinner have coded GPU acceleration for it on Kodi. I'd imagine it would playback better in their Video player equivalent. I know the official Kodi team were working away from stagefright towards MediaCodec, but I don't know how well it would playback on an Allwinner.

The CPU in this is not great, they use the cheapo Allwinner SOCs which get little support from devs (might be wrong but GPU acceleration does also not work in Kodi). Better to spend a bit more and get a Amlogic device. Google s805 tv box, those are a few quid more. The s905 is the current Amlogic chip, waiting for a Beelink Mini MX which uses the s905 to drop through the letterbox any day now, cost me £26 quid from Gearbest.

Yes it is a bit, but that's OK. You don't need an app, Kodi just sees it as an external data source. Plug it in and fire up Kodi. Browse to the external device and off you go.

Hmmm I'll take your word for it... which version of Kodi are you using? Everything I know about the allwinners is that they do not support hardware acceleration, including this statement in comment 33 "Turn off hardware acceleration in Kodi if you want to be able to skip back and forth. With it on, the box crashes every time you skip back."
So if you have got it working properly I'd be interested in how.....
LeeJS
4 Jan 16#122
The chipset is fast enough for Kodi but hardware acceleration does not work on this unit. Not on mine, anyway. Unless it's turned off, using the ff/rw skip functions cause the unit to lock up.

So you're aware there is no source code, no dev support, yet trust the view it works fine from someone who hasn't even told you what the codecs/bitrate/resolution he is running videos from.
For whatever he is doing it may be absolutely fine, but there is an open source Amlogic box with bluetooth for £3 extra - There is no debating on which chipset is better.

Mine came with a euro plug and an adaptor. Annoyingly bulky for the kitchen but it works. It's a fairly standard adaptor, so I probably have a UK one lying around somewhere to replace it with if I remember to look.

Got mine today as well, it comes pre-rooted so all you have to do is install SuperSU from the PlayStore. I've only just started transferring my stuff onto it but I think it seems pretty quick. I did the update straight away, have you done that yet?
gadgetgeek82
22 Jan 16#163
Yeah I believe I've updated the box. I will have a proper look tonight. I'm lacking a bit of knowledge with these boxes, and the best way to get proper use out of it.
Andy4Shurr
22 Jan 161#164
Kodi is the way forward with these boxes IMO, although you need a good IPTV service to go with it. I've installed all my apps now and I'm using the xbmc launcher to boot straight into kodi, I've set up all my app integration right into kodi too. The back up add-on in kodi didn't restore everything I had so I've had to do it all manually.
Also, I know you've just paid out for the box, but again in my opinion the best thing to do is buy an air mouse/remote. The remote that comes with it is shocking and can make it feel laborious and slow, going through menus etc. I've got the Mele f10 Deluxe and it's a dream to use. Everything is super quick and responsive and I've even mapped keys in kodi so this really is a replacement TV box now.

Just setup sports devil (great addon) but most of the streams are quite jerky even on iplayer. I'm guessing it's more likely the distance to my router as the built in wifi won't be great?

I haven't tested the WiFi as my box is literally next to my router so it's just plugged in but the speeds via Ethernet are spot on, I have a 150mbps line and I'm getting the full amount on speedtest.net (more actually).

So today I rebooted my M18 box and it got stuck on the android text boot screen with the image all distorted and glitched, it just wouldn't go further than that.
I booted into recovery, did a factory reset but it's still having the same problem. Any ideas? I may have to reflash the firmware if i can find it!
It seems to be a known problem with stock KODI up to 15.2 with X2 and other boxes using Allwinner H3 SoC. 1080p and higher content can only be viewed in upscaled 720p when using KODI. KODI has better 1080p hardware acceleration support with say AmLogic SoC.
Nevertheless, the X2 is great value for money.

I have the same problem, system info keeps saying 1280x720,but if you press the bottom left conor button on the remote it changes the screen res to 1080p and 4k but system info stays the same..

Don't know about films but this is android, literally everything is accessible somehow.
I am tempted myself but might hold off until in case a better deal comes up.
I've tried Kodi but I don't know what the proper benefits of it are, but I've always wanted a box like this with Kodi in it.
I've already got a raspberry pi running kodi and chromecast so don't need it, but curious to understand what this is capable of...
Anyone?
Don't forget TCB as well.
THIS AND THIS. :innocent:
AVOID
Edit: this one is using an Amlogic so you can have openelec running and linux http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_183121.html
For what it is, it looked very decent at the time too. :-)
I thoroughly recommend setting up kore as your remote for using it though, the ones supplied barely work
Not just for kodi but you would be wise to invest in 2gbRAM try the 168 box or the mxlv box WiFi is pretty useless, newer boxes boast 1000 LAN, Tronfy boxes are the most stable around the £50-£60 with Bluetooth 4 all you need is a mouse
these android boxes are sold promoting kodi films OK sports a little worse quality, but showbox for movies and TV is great .I use 4 boxes in the house streaming from my enigma2 satt box using the dramdroid app.
They are also connected to my nas drive.
use the soundseeder app that works like sonos(multiroom audio) just wire up all your old amps and speakers
AllI all Good price, for a first box
also kodi resets itself and you have to spend hours finding a working link finally when find one the video player keeps on buffering and picture lags ..
Think you would be better just getting this for the sake of £40 to save any frustrations
Yes, KODI is good etc, but you will get all what you need by installing these 2x Apps onto the Box with having the trouble of setting up and config etc.
This is where you need to be for info on that >

If you want easy, HD and reliable then pay for a subscription detailed somewhat in the thread above, otherwise mess about with addons that break, that buffer and have a generally frustrating experience. If you're more tech savvy such as myself you can put up with it and fix it, however I have little patience and found paying = working all the time = saving time = less stress.
Where have you seen this?
Which Tronfy box would you recommend please?
http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/hukd-satellite-information-iptv-thread-1509614
Expect to pay for a subscription to an iptv/vod service if you want things to be in relative terms reliable.
seo michael
for example I use a Bluetooth games controller, mouse, keyboard and headphones/ earphones with mine...
Expired.
None of the addons that youa re talking about are supported by either the manufacturer of the box, the seller of the box or the developers of Kodi.. That means, when they break, you are SOL unless you actually know what you are doing... and they WILL break.

*was £120 just before christmas, I'm sure you can find it somewhere for that price

Showbox is like Netflix but 1000% better and FREE
Mobdro, will give you access to all the live Sports channels all over the world via a simple menu, click and open it.
No lag, no jumpy broken up etc, Free
Kodi, yes... can be a pain to setup if you are not clued up with this sort of thing, so hence stick with Showbox and Mobdro.. easy peeezy
But... it's still a good box for it's price and an excellent starting place for beginners who want to get use to Kodi.
These deals imply that free streaming is better than it is, you get what you pay for with free streaming, in comparison to Netflix and Sky/BT free streaming, stinks of dung.
As I have already said... Allwinner is not open source. You are stuck running whatever garbage firmware comes on it and bugs don't get fixed.
The playback is nowhere near as good, no OpenElec, no dual booting Android with another OS - people should really take the time to look into this before purchasing.
Totally depends if Allwinner have coded GPU acceleration for it on Kodi. I'd imagine it would playback better in their Video player equivalent. I know the official Kodi team were working away from stagefright towards MediaCodec, but I don't know how well it would playback on an Allwinner.
This chipset is quite fast enough for Kodi. I don't know what people are wittering on about -- I bought one of these when it was £20 for Christmas and performance is similar to the MIII.
http://m.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_202596.html
