I hadn't been into a B&M store for 12 months so decided to go in just before Christmas. OMG how expensive are they now !
Stuff that was a pound last year is now £2+
Things like Cadbury drinking chocolate which was a pound last year is now £2.49 !
Their toys were double the price too, most were a third dearer than Toys r us and Tesco.
I left without buying a single item and will never return.
Its good old fashioned greed ! They were cheap and everyone loved it, a shop that sold almost everything and it was a bargain, but as soon as the money came flooding in, the greedy management thought, hmmm.... this is a gold mine, lets double the price of everything !
Im glad there closing down, feel sorry the employees tho, but greed will always close shops down.
I hope Matalan is next, they used to be well cheap years ago but they are also very expensive now and they only sell tack.
........ rant over

I was at this store in the summer and still regret not picking up one of their large rugs for £20, couldn't fit it in the car.

I can assure you that one is not a bingo winged, mammoth woman with tattoos and grey tracksuit bottoms, stuck up her more than generous crevice.
its been bought by a very big business to become a much needed carpark.
Whitehaven is a metropolis it has two B&Ms so it can afford to lose one

Some things are still ok in there price wise. It's just another bargain shop selling same old ebay tat every over bargain shop sells.
Agree though, price wise, it's on the stock market now, so all top brass care about is making profit and being appealing to investors.
Oh and by the way, ill bet you grannies knickers it will be 75% off the final day it's open.
In fact expect most small old style b&m to be closing if in run down town's, when the lease is up.

Surely with everything being £1 in poundland, it makes it cheaper...?

B&M - the new Woolworths?
I agree I often walk in for a browse. But in recent months more often leave empty handed as either what they have is unappealing or it has shot up in price. This did not use to be the case. Clearly they have changed something. Let's hope closures for financial reasons don't start to happen.
Home Bargains however still ends up with me leaving with a basket of stuff for not much money.

I agree, I often walk out of B&M with very little compared to a full basket or trolley at Home Bargains.

Whitehaven is a jewel of a town in an idyllic setting, B&M and Argos have both been purchased by Sellafield LTD and will be made into office space like the Albion buildings, its boom time for Copeland & Allerdale with the nuclear new build on it,s doorstep.

All these places sell junk. I suppose when the country is stuck in a not so secret recession it keeps people going.
Only 1.7 trillion in debt and still going up :sunglasses:

whitehaven is not a jewel, it is a run down, not cared for dump.
barely any shope eorth shopping in, and those that are close by the week.
the harbour is slowly ending up in disrepair...as much as i dont care what sellafield do, they shouldnt be allowed to take over something more suited to shops, its criminal!!!

Exactly marra. Whitehaven is turning into one big extension of the Sellafield site. How many buildings - some Georgian - have they demolished so far?
