I have the UX305 and it's a great bit of kit, i love it. Half the price of a mac book air and reviews exist with it being rated higher than a mac book air..... if you want windows buy this and if you want Apples OS buy the Mac.

Good spec but hope it's not the same dull washed out screen as the UX305..as that really has a horrible screen
In all honesty If I was spending this kind of money on an Ultrabook I'd rather drop the spec a little and buy either a Delll XPS13 for Windows or a Macbook Pro Retina 13. Both better machine s than this even if it means lower spec.

Picked one up today, typing on it now. Screen is great, not sure why you think it is not IPS?
Have been looking for a well reviewed laptop with good build quality, keyboard/trackpad, nice display and quick (processor, RAM and SSD - I don't need a quad-core processor or discrete graphics as won't be gaming) and this seems to fit the bill nicely. XPS and Macbooks are great choices also, but more expensive for this kind of spec.

can't speak for the weight, which seems a bizarre metric on which to judge the worth of a laptop, but each to his own, but there are plenty of IPS FHD (and better) laptops out there for less than 800 quid, so many you'll have little difficulty finding yourself

The original UX303LA was ahead of its time and comfortably rivalled the Apple offerings when it appeared.
This UA model has double the RAM, a far quicker i7, the latest Intel 520 graphics chip and (see 'Expert Reviews') a greatly improved screen, , plus twice the SSD capacity of the LA.
All for a price that Apple eaters would love to pay. What's not to like?
The Asus website states 'IPS-like' screen, so it may be a very advanced TN, but the performance, viewability and test results are pretty close to an IPS screen, so Asus are not lying.
As soon as I start with my new company, this is the business laptop I'm jumping at - of course, I may be trying a few games in my own time . . . .
Just hoping Currys keep the price at this level.

With a relatively low-res screen, why is the battery 'only' 7 hours? It doesn't even have a dedicated graphics card. Other skylake laptops are a few hours more with 4K Touch screens

From the expert reviews link someone posted earlier, it seems to last longer than 7 hours "In the video playback battery test, the Asus UX303UA lasted an excellent 9 hours and 50 minutes. You’re going to be able to get a whole day’s use without needing to find a mains outlet."

The Zenbooks all come with IPS screens; just check out the manufacturer's website. You can also see a load of reviews of the different variations of the Zenbooks on Notebookcheck.net to see which version is right for you. I've been looking at them for the past few weeks and can't decide on a UX303/UX305 or a UX501.
Also, for those comparing this laptop to higher spec'd laptops, the Zenbook is an Ultrabook and as an Ultrabook is meant to be slim, light and ultra-low power, it's not meant to be comparable to standard laptops.
i paid £335 delivered in the end , 4k screen

My friend got himself a Lafitte II, I installed Windows for him and helped him pick the specs, he is loving it and it cost around 400£ with an i3, a really nice 1080 IPS screen and a PCIE 2GB/s m.2 ssd (256GB), without windows, as well as couple of other nice bits and pieces.
All in all it is the fastest machine I have ever used (if ever so briefly) because of that ssd and a crazy value for about 400£. I would definitely recommend them.

13 Jan 16#56
£385 inc delivery was the price , mine had some stripped screw heads which I managed to get them out without damaging the laptop they took £50 off the price because of that and £6.50 quidco so £328 all in , it was described as a1 refurbished but clearly some dim wit knackered the weak aluminium screws holding the base on.
just disputed the warranty with hp today and the clock got reset back to 12 months so £328 + 12 month warranty
No, being obtuse is not accepting that different people have different requirements for a laptop.
This is clearly not the right laptop for someone looking to play 3d games, for example. In my opinion it's one to consider for the subsection of people who specifically want:
-high quality (full HD IPS) 13.3 inch screen
-portability (thickness and, yes, weight are considerations)
-aluminium chassis
-good specs for non gaming activities (processor, ram, ssd)
-strong reviews for general usage (keyboard, trackpad, fan noise... The kind of things you don't see in a quick list of specs!)
-windows
Others to consider would be HP envy 13, otherwise Asus ux305 at under 600 is a bargain if processor is not as important to you. Xps 13 is of course great but usually more expensive. I'm sure there are others, any suggestions?

It's odd that mainstream tech websites and magazines just don't seem interested in reviewing HP products. I've been looking at their laptops and all in ones. They look good on paper but the lack of reviews and persistent forum rumours of poor quality and unreliability puts me off.
This Asus looks more credible than the HP Envy 13 for the simple reason that quite a few reviews can be found and they're generally favourable. I've recently purchased an Asus E403SA and it's exceptional quality, especially as it's only £249! I bought it for browsing and emailing and as a general spare. It's the Windows equivalent of a Chromebook as it only has a 32GB drive. It bodes well for the quality of the UX303 though.
