I'm probably going to catch a cold with this deal due to it being an Apple device and Cex, but it is a deal nevertheless.
The main benefit as I see it with the 4th Gen is that you can, with a bit of effort, get Kodi installed on it. Here's a link on on how to; http://bestforkodi.com/how-to-install-kodi-apple-tv-4/
You'll need a Mac and Xcode to do this. You don't have to put Kodi on it, but it seems a waste of £120 if you don't!
The 32GB 4th Gen from Cex was better value at £90, but sold out quickly. There are currently 136 64GB in stock as I type.
2 year warranty as well.

Just as an update, I bought one and have successfully installed Kodi with all the addons and skins. I've also installed tvOS browser which allows you to sort the web.

Just so everyone knows, I expired this as soon as the price increased to £130 (which is still a decent price) however it won't expire for some unknown reason.

You're right, after re-reading the link provided in the description it seems all you need is an Apple ID and not the full-on developer account. Which makes this deal even better.
mcdarius
8 Jan 161#53
Correct me if I'm wrong but the main argument for buying this was Kodi? Currently you can only side-load it on ATV4 if you have an Apple developer account which is £100 a year.
It's a good (as in cheaper) price for the device but don't buy this for Kodi, Raspberry Pi2 with OpenElec is a much cheaper (and better if you use 3D) way of doing this.
Voted hot for the price though, Apple seems to be losing lately it but ATV4 is still a good product.

From what I understand, you don't need a developer account - Xcode will do it for you. It would only be for your own device.

Yes I'm voting cold and yes it's it's because it's Apple . But not because I'm an Android fan which I am. Don't get me wrong Apple are a forward thinking innovative company . May not develop products but can see potential and know how to develop. But they are restrictive., all products designed to tie you into brand. app store, app music non expandable memory, overpriced accessories with own connections. Android more open source. less restrictions on what can or can't do. accessories cheap and connections sane across makes and with exception of latest Samsung phones ( which think mistake on samsungs part) have expandable memory

That's a shame. I thought this site was Hot UK Deals? Is this not a deal? Irrespective of what you think of the product itself, this is a cheaper way of getting it. You are voting cold for the company, rather than the particular deal.
There's another hot deal on here - Ford Focus for 20K rather than 27K. I wouldn't buy another Ford, but I wouldn't vote cold because of it.

It's the touch pad you have to leave it 2 feet away from you even if you hold it will ff or rewind ,
Even if it's by your side you move and accidentally touch the remote or any body part or clothes touches it , it moves the screen forward or pause it or rewind it depends where you touch it , even of it your duvet or anything like a cloth goes over it
Fire tv remote has got no track pad

Can't imagine 136 people bought this and sold it rapidly to CEX for £56 each... Has to be a way for Apple to dump them new without annoying official retailers

Wish that were true. Reality is a number will be thefts from local Apple Stores traded in at bad money straight after the act. Nobody in the right frame of mind would take £56 for a brand new product unless they desperately needed funds.

Oh, don't bother buying a MacBook just for Kodi, it's a waste of money! You can get Kodi on most Android devices and it works really well. I even used a couple of Raspberry Pi's that only cost £20 when they first came out a few years ago.
You would also want to use Kodi in your TV - you can hook a MacBook up easily enough but why bother when you can get something for around £40 that does the job just as well?

7 Jan 16#28
Can you buy refurbs from the Apple store?
Tbh, I don't even want a Macbook, but if that means possibly getting one for Kodi etc, then maybe handy. Is it a difficult process?
Lippo999
7 Jan 16#27
I've just bought a new MacBook Pro as it has a better screen than my Air. I was in the US in August and the stuff is cheaper there, by a good margin. The new MacBook is lovely and light and perfect if you don't need out and out processing power. Only has USB C though which put me off.
I bought a refurb Mac Mini from the US about 3 years ago. Had a problem with it when I got back and the Apple warranty was still valid over here. Try that route to get the best bang for your buck. Don't forget to add their tax on though, normally around 10%.

Yep, and SPMC which is from an older version but designed more for Android. Never noticed any difference in reality. Apple keep a stranglehold on their software, that's why I religiously jailbreak every device I have and put Kodi on my MacBooks.

I've heard very good things about the Nvidia Shield. It will be easier putting Kodi on it, that's for sure. The ATV 4 is probably aimed at a different market .
I would imagine this is used as it comes from Cex. I assume the 'A' in the title means Grade A. People on the earlier 32GB thread say that the item they received was new but certainly no guarantees. A new one is £169.00.
