Great idea for home workers or you travel a lot and find the single screen on your laptop too limiting. For me, when I'm working from home (couple of days a week usually), I do miss the 2 monitor setup I have in the office.
This allows me to plug one cable into my laptop and have a second 17" screen without needing to power it separately (it gets the video signal AND power through USB).

I'm a software engineer, think some ppl are missing the point of a screen like this. For under a hundred quid, it's given me a second screen while working from home. It will probably have nothing more graphically challenging than SQL Studio or Outlook on it so I didn't need eye popping graphical quality. There are Full HD options out there but nearly double the money for a smaller screen. Still a good deal if you need full HD but if, like me, you don't then it fits the bill perfectly.

the resolution on this panel.. if it was HD/UHD or higher, a lot more
dual/triple/quad users would want it..
True, AOC do make a Full HD version of this too (in a 16" screen) E1659FWUX but I couldn't find it for sale in the UK. ASUS also make a Full HD one which is available on Amazon but is nearly £80 quid more (http://www.amazon.co.uk/MB169B-15-6-inch-Monitor-Powered-1080p/dp/B013FOMTWE/ref=pd_sim_147_1) and a smaller screen

I agree, but I think this in meant as a second screen for a laptop, in which case you want the same resolution. And 1600x900 is quite common on 17" laptops.

Just funny now AOC are the biggest in the business, but still cannot see the massive
opportunity for having a large size hd external set up!
Maybe time to get the guts of dell UHD 23/27/30 lcd panel and a display port socket and blow the cobwebs
off the soldering iron to make one ;-)

If, like me, your eyes are a bit poo this could actually make a windows tablet usable beyond the likes of word droop.
Probably need to add a dock of some sort though.

Could have used this as a Raspbery Pi monitor/input device and more if it had a Touch Screen.

I think you might have problems with power supply for the monitor if you used it with pi. AFAIK pj doesn't support USB 3.0 so sends less power through USB and probably not enough for this monitor anyway so I don't see this working with pi in any way except by having external power supply or hub in which case you might just as well go for a standard monitor.
While I agree with you about higher res and size, I am afraid USB wouldn't be able to power such a device (hence why I presume the FHD one has smaller screen). Say UHD screen on 27" would use roughly 20 times more power than this and I believe USB 3.0 is still limited.
I might be wrong though...

HD is 1280x720 full HD is 1920x1080. This screen is 1600x900 so sits in between HD and Full HD.

Got a "pre-owned" one from Maplin before Xmas. Used a £25 voucher code which brought it down to around £65. Very pleased with it both in price and functionality - using it with my Surface Pro 1 to get some more screen estate on the move

Won't be buying from AOC again, their 4k panel would make a popping sound every now again and also it handled anything under 4k terribly.

I see the point of these but using a tablet as a second display is more flexible? - I use Duet with an iPad connected via USB and it is really good. I know that this setup is +£££££ than this deal but maybe a similar thing could be achieved with a cheaper Windows or Android tablet?

I think if I bought a 17" tablet I wouldn't find it much use as a tablet as it would be too big, so not sure I follow your logic

Hi, sorry if you thought I was being negative. Using an iPad as a second screen works well for me but I can totally see the benefit of a 17" screen. How do you find the power usage - does it drain your laptop battery really quickly. Voted hot and very tempted - my iPad is suddenly looking a bit small!
