I wouldn't say so. I buy a lot of fruit and veg for my rabbits to last the week. It lasts a damn sight longer than buying from Asda or Tesco

Veg is not "packed with preservatives". Unfortunately fruit and veg is chilled at very low temperatures whilst it's shipped from farm to shop. When it's put into a room temp situation it tends to go off quicker. Big chain supermarkets do it with sandwiches too. Freeze them in transit and then thaw them out slowly which is why the bread is always hard on the outside and mushy in the Middle

I went to a veg shop today and picked up a 25kg bag of Maris piper for £8, if I bought the same amount of spuds from Aldi at their normal price id be paying £18.90, picked up loose sprouts, large cauli and a punnet of strawberries for £10.40 altogether, far better quality and no difference in price taking into account the current deal of going off quick spuds!

As much as I like lidl and aldi, I will not buy their fruit or veg anymore. It is a false economy, every time I have bought fruit or veg from either store, it has gone off within a couple of days.

I'm a big fan of Aldi - been shopping there for years - but have to agree that fresh fruit and veg doesn't seem to stay fresh for long. In a multi-pack of anything (potatoes, onions, etc) one piece seems to 'turn' very quickly, and if not careful effects the rest!!!! Always joked you are paying for 3 good ones and one rotten one!

You aldi lot are brainwashed. I've tried many times to shop at aldi and lidl and fruit and veg definitely do not last anywhere near as long.
So when anyone says that fact and then gets abuse on here - Thankfully channel 4 dispatches programme put the record straight last month and so its been shown that if you want out of date produce that has been thrown onto the shelf, then aldi is the brand for you. Why else have the best before date hidden backwards in code?
It's definitely cheaper on most things. It's definitely poorer quality on everything. Just because you're eating it, doesn't mean you have to defend you're choice to eat poorer quality food as 'better' when it isn't.

It's not a best before date lol. That dispatches program was terrible.
I can walk into any supermarket and find something that's either poor quality/unsuitable for sale or out of date.

Agree. Stuff goes mouldy so so quick so deffo worth paying a tiny bit more for say asda or tesco quality. Lasts ages after actual use by date.

There may have been some truth in this years ago but certainly not these days. Please don't peddle out of date prejudice out of ignorance. Good stuff at fantastic prices which have the big boys running scared.

I've never had a problem with aldi produce, ever think you might just be unlucky with your local store? It has always lasted just as long for me as food from anywhere else when getting it from mine. As for best before dates, they're just a guess anyway... It's fruit and veg ffs! It doesn't magically decide to go bad one day because a label says it should

I have shopped at aldi in 3 countries and there is nothing wrong with there food and the person saying end of line is talking bs .
You pay for the brand and shop name not the products
The reason asda pay more and tesco is because of high rents and town centre locations

aldi and lidls buy end of line stocks ie surplus of the main supermarkets so unless the main supermarkets buy the major stock these don't have much to put out on a "deal" menu. the stuff is already expired before making it to the shelf and if not it will by the time you get through the till! not worth it in personal or national interest.

no they don't hahahahahahaha you really think there is a pile of unsold fruit and veg just waiting for Aldi and Lidl to buy? Put down the crack pipe. The reason why Aldi and Lidl are so cheap is because their profit margin is lower than the other big supermarkets.

See what offers the 'Big Boys' bring.
Aldi and Lidl forced their hands over the Xmas period, that's for sure.
It's fun watching the 'Little Lads' running the show and making the 'Big Boys' squirm.

Terrible quality, the spuds I bought last week had eyes within a few days, ok still used them but how long have they been in plastic bags for before we get em! Sorry but I'd rather pay a little extra and go visit the veg man,

What do you expect for 29p! And its more than a little extra.
I assume you mean because it goes off faster, well maybe thats because big supermarkets often pack their fruit and veg full of preservatives, going off quicker to me shows its actually "better" because it means its not packed with preservatives.

Mostly good produce from Aldi is my experience, only had issues with bruised potatoes , probably rough treatment somewhere. Great prices ,heat added but not sure its time to do salad dishes just yet.
