this is the same specs as the Tesco device that was 180 last week but it says a mouse and keyboard are included too which is probably worth 20 pounds and this is the best price for it currently also?
anyone that bought it last week care to share what they thought? is this machine only good for streaming tv or is it ab decent computer for using programs on also ?

I purchased the Revo with the Intel Celeron 4GB ram version during the black friday deal for £100. I've got Kodi on it and it runs smoothly. Upgraded it to Windows 10 too which works better than Windows 8 imo. So my spec is lower than this but I'm very happy with it so for that spec I think its decent. I got the remote/touch pad but much prefer a keyboard/trackpad as its easier! This mini pc is great. Its nice and quiet and tiny enough to hide behind a photo frame!

You got a beautiful Deal that Black Friday mate ..... :-)
This looks to be exactly the same but says remote instead of keyboard for 40 more, so I wonder if you don't get the remote on this one, I heard its not great anyways but veryb strange all these packages

The remote isn't worth £40. Best going for your original keyboard option and keep the £40. If you're looking a small remote (which can be handy at times) you will probably be able to pick up something cheaper (and probably better) on ebay or Amazon.

Actually, they would put an i5 in it, include 'free for life' (and millions of times better than Windows) OS X, make it out of aluminium rather than plastic and call it a Mac mini, priced at £399.
(and it would still be worth £200 in 5 years)

If you put this machine into context decent streaming boxes are between 50 and 160 pounds, you are getting so much more for you money. With loads of extra features that you might not use now but will later on. Its not a bad little machine at this price.

Now, I wouldn't say I got almost twice the PC as the one the op posted here has a much better processor, but yes, for half the price isn't too bad lol For what I use it for, I didn't need higher spec. Not sure I should feel sorry for Apple but give Apple a little credit! Is the Acer Revo made from flight-grade aluminium? No, PC plastic, which looks fine to me but you know what I mean! Do Apple use a i3-4005U in any of their current products? No, it's a circa 2013 lower power consumption CPU used mainly in ultrabooks for long battery life and fairly low heat, and nothing wrong with that if you're not a so-called power user but that we've since had Broadwell U-series CPUs and are now on Skylake, though there isn't yet a Skylake Acer Revo, as far as I can see, and if there were it wouldn't be this price! There is, though, an Acer Revo Broadwell i5, which is a little more tempting than this deal, for me.
Getting back to Apple, the Acer Revo deal, here, is more directly comparable with a Mac Mini, the 2014 model, which Apple haven't updated yet and which uses old an Core i5 4260U and HD 5000 graphics (the Acer, here, uses HD 4400 graphics), which though like the Acer's i3-4005U is a dual core part, it comfortably beats the Acer in benchmarks. But so it should, it's £362.78! The Apple has comparatively little in it that's upgradeable, compared to the Acer.
Have some more heat!

"Drives can be removed from RAID pairing using Intel Rapid Storage Technology app - if you change setting in BIOS from RAID to AHCI then machine will not boot. "
I have the Celeron version of this as a media PC under the TV. Very, very capable little box and a real bargain. Pretty much silent, too.
One tip: fork out £35 or so for a 120gb SSD from Amazon and install it into one of the spare bays. Then clone the internal drive onto it, change the boot disk in BIOS and - hey presto! - you have a very speedy little PC with an empty 500Gb drive.

How many drives will this take? I know the i5 version eBuyer was selling had a 60GB SSD and two 2TB drives. I think the celeron version will only take two drives but how about the i3 version? Can anyone confirm please?

Great alternative to someone buying a traditional laptop for occasional use i suppose.

Didn't you have any issues licencing windows after? I did when I fitted an ssd to a brand new 8.1 Dell laptop :-( I clean installed 8.1 on the ssd but it wouldn't activate due to the activation key being generated with the signatures of some hardware components such as the drive! Literally took 2 days on the phone to increasingly knowledgeable Dell engineers before they gave up and put me through to Microsoft who finally after failing themselves issued me with a brand new key! This makes me very wary of doing it again unfortunately unless someone can reassure me!?

I've upgraded/ clean installed Windows 10 on three different Revos and all have activated OK.
Licensing has been made much easier for W10 as MS want everyone to upgrade - as long as you have a valid Windows 7 or 8 key, it should activate fine.

I have this PC which I purchased via the Tesco deal.
It runs really quietly and looks great. Paired with a Logitech K400 Plus its fantastic. Windows 10 makes it a pleasure to use - Windows 8.1 sucks.. but we all know that.
I'm running Plex Media Server on it and Kodi. I purchased an Android Box which has arrived. I'll get round to testing the Android box on Friday as I want to see how well Plex Media Server (PMS) runs on the machine with multiple streams via Gigabit Powerline Adapters.
I also need to test PMS transcoding. The i3 can transcode 1080p easily. Research suggests it should be find as Plex requires a processor benchmark score of 2000 per 1080 transcode and this i3 has a score of 2467.
An SSD would make this even faster but as a media server there is no real need - it will make a difference though and as SSD's get cheaper I may consider installing one.

I can only find this video on how to replace the hard drive, I think the spare slot will just be on that side where that hard drive is... I know this isn't much help but it's a start!
1. Take the lid off and install the SSD into the spare caddy. It will lift out - just snap the SSD in and push it down so the connector aligns.
2. In Windows, install the free edition of Minitool Partition Wizard: http://www.minitool.com/download-center/partition-manager-download.html
3. In Minitool, select the option to "Migrate OS to SSD/HD": http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/migrate-os-to-ssd-hd.html
4. When prompted, reboot so the clone can complete.
5. When Minitool has finished, hit the Delete key on reboot. In the BIOS, change the Boot Order so your new SSD is first. Save and Exit.
6. Windows will now boot from the SSD - you'll know it has worked as it'll be roughly 10x faster. :stuck_out_tongue:
When you're back in Windows, you can go to the Disk Manager (just search Cortana for "Format disks") and safely reformat the internal HDD.

I was really lucky to get the £99 version but unlucky that the board went faulty twice so had it for about 2 days total in a month! Top tip. Do upgrade to Windows 10 on main drive, create a USB of W10 using free Microsoft tool. Install SSD or HDD in spare slot. Boot from USB and delete partitions as part of the install. Skip through putting in licence key as once a machine has had Windows 10 installed it saves the key in the BIOS so will activate automatically. Having said all this after some mucking around I've got a dual boot of Windows 7 and KODIbuntu on mine. Did want w10 but can't dual boot KODIBuntu on that and even on a Celeron that runs like a beast!

Finally bought it, free delivery says it could take a week though! I'm pretty sure it'll be good enough for what I want! Will test it on a normal hard drive and maybe upgrade it if it's slugglish!
The only thing I've tried on Windows 10 is my old hp stream 7 and even that was decent so this should run fine!!
got rid of windows and installed Linux Mint. installed Plex, CouchPotato and Sonarr.. now it just keeps running in a corner for all my personal media needs.
I put a 240GB Sandisk Plus in this machine, was £45 from Ebuyer. A 120GB will probably do, going for about £35.
If you're after better performance and reliability, look for the Sandisk Ultra models of Samsung 850 Evo. I put a 240GB Samsung in my i5, was £60 - worth the extra £15 to me.
Licensing has been made much easier for W10 as MS want everyone to upgrade - as long as you have a valid Windows 7 or 8 key, it should activate fine.
If you want to hedge your bets, pull the original disk and install on a fresh one.
Similar to people who always trot out that indicators are optional on BMWs, people saying Sony are crap on Audio/Visual items, etc. If you make a sarcastic comment and know someone is likely to take offence, don't be surprised if they take the bait.
Anyway, how silly do you feel after reading my response?

Sod's law this ..... hehehehe.
How much did your Tesco Deal Cost you at the time?, or .....

Thanks but I have the drive in the spare slot. It's the cloning and setting the drive to be bootable where I am having difficulties
Maybe its just ME, but ...
Come this New Year so far, I've absolutely forgotten alllllll!, & brains gone soft like I've always fed it with nowt or something?, hehehehehe.
Useful bits of Info. this, thanx, lol. :-)
This one ? They had a very similar deal with an I5 model for not much more but sold out. Don't know how much better the processor would be but the extra ram would help and lots more storage, good option if you need more space
Can you tell us how to do it?
I have upgraded to Win10 and I am not sure this will work as it says it's only for Win8

anyone know if this pc would be good enough to use a midi keyboard on it like this one? think it can use programs like ableton or fruity loops? should be okay shouldn't it??
I deleted McAfee too and tried to install avg free but it stalls at the end ... Any reason why? Windows defender isn't an anti virus is it? Any other better free ones to try? Haven't had a pc in years !!!!
