Bought one yesterday from Sainsbury in Winnersh £149 bargain.

Is anyone using this as a desktop pc rather than connected to a TV as a media player? The Celeron processor seems to grind to a halt once you have multiple browser windows open.

Has anyone found any of these anywhere near London?, or ...... thanx. :-)

I can just use my work sub as 5 PC usage but yep still got a old copy of Office 2010 but even the school is on Office 2016 so no point missing on all the shiny buttons that MS charge for the updates.......

i got the last one of these from Pound Lane in Norwich for £130 - the box had been opened and I negotiated a discount. Upgraded it to Windows 10 and am tinkering with it.

It's a bit of a bargain. Don't like the monitor - way too much light bleeding onto blacks and poor viewing angles because of this. Sharp though.

Upgrading the memory does involve taking the thing completely apart. Expect an hour with a small crosshead screwdriver. The good news is that all the screws are the same size so no need to track which ones came from where.

For general browsing it's pretty good although badly written Flash and Javascript sites will drag any machine down.

I don't do emulation however I can tell you it runs Defense Grid 2 and Sonic Generations acceptably if you turn down the resolution and detail. It's a good deal faster than most ARM systems so would expect it to go up to PS1 and N64 level pretty well.

There are instructions on YouTube for upgrading the ram. The Celeron 2957U cpu is faster than I expected but seems to slow down with multiple browser windows open. Is there any way of adjusting the height of the supplied Acer monitor to be lower?

How easy is it to change the memory? Do you need to take the whole thing apart? Not sure our Sainsburys even has one of these, but I'm tempted to get one from somehwhere.

Also not sure how good the celeron is for general Windows, browsing on multiple chrome tabs, emulation etc. For those who grabbed one and didn't immediately sell it on through Ebay, any comments?

Are you sure about that? The Office version bundled with these low end systems is usually "Office Home and Student" which doesn't expire but also doesn't get upgrades either. It's "Office 365" which is the 12 month subscription version.

Did anyone else notice that this SKU doesn't support 3 SATA drives? The PCB connector on the motherboard to accept third drive isn't populated, looks like it would be easy to solder in (it's through-hole not surface mount) but I'm not sure if the that would be enough to make it work.

Has anyone installed Office 365 - how much space total was left? Want for kids 1st PC but want Office as minimum.

Thanks - that is a shame as I was going to set this up in the dining room for the kids to do their homework on but could do with inbuilt speakers as short on room.

Does the monitor have inbuilt speakers?

On a lot of monitors you will only get 4k via the HDMI connection, not dvi or vga. Just FYI.

Saw one on the shelf at this price in Enfield (Crown Rd.)

There was 1 in Sainsburys Northampton sixfields branch this evening, I didn't think it was so great with only 2gb ram and the 60gb drive tbf

Also the monitor does have HDMI
And when watching YouTube on that it lets you changed to 4K and that also looks great
But cannot be 4K as the monitor is only 1080p

Managed to get myself 2 today
Good little machine and monitor is also good
What I don't get is its says ultra HD on the box
So I have plugged it in to my 4K tv looks great but not 4K tried to change the resolution to 4K but not go above
1080p
Also tried a few 4K clips of my HDD and don't look that good
Did try YouTube and it did let me change setting to 4K and the videos looked fantastic
Over all not a bad machine but will be taking one back

I bought one and find it to be not to bad a set up for the money. One thing though that is disappointing is the Wi-Fi card it has in it. It is very weak. I think they assume you will use an Ethernet cable with it so have put the cheapest one available in. I have had to stick my spare wi-fi dongle in it just to get some decent performance out of it.

The were two on the shelf at Emmerson's Green last night and I bought both of them.

Anybody armed with a small screwdriver and a bit of care will be able to get them apart. It has two standard 2.5" SATA ports one of which has the supplied system drive, a Kingston SSDNOW 60GB model, which could easily be upgraded. It has a DDR3L SODIMM slot which is populated with a Kingston 12800 2GB piece. Could easily be replaced with something bigger, but no second slot. The wireless widget is a slotted-in Qualcomm Atheros so is, again, easily replaced if necessary.

The CPU is, of course, SMT so not replaceable.

It has an internal fan but it's pretty quiet.
No keyboard or mouse but the supplied mini-gadget is actually surprisingly usage when you get used to it.

It runs Windows 10 well; have managed to remove most of the built-in bloatware with minimal pain. Even tried a bit of light 3D gaming.

A full-on bargain IMO especially if you have a use for the monitor.

Yes, that's the one - the monitor is an Acer K222HQL. There's also an HDMI cable in the box. Looking up the Specs for the monitor, it only has VGA and DVI (?), but there are some reviews that say it has HDMI as well so possibly Acer do different variants.

There are misleading stickers on the outer box proclaiming 4K resolution and "WQHD", and although the RL85 can do this, the monitor is a standard 1920 x 1080.
