I was really annoyed for a minute because i thought the price had dropped by £40 since i ordered a couple of weeks ago but i ordered the quad core n3700 (passmark 1898) version, having been using that for the past few weeks with windows 10 and kodi i would be quite concerned that the dual core n3050 (passmark 882) might be unbearably slow for some tasks. obviously depends what you want to be doing with it.

A few other points for anyone looking to use this as a kodi box, particularly under windows:

1. Under windows the is no support for HD audio HDMI passthrough - very annoying, this is an intel driver limitation, the hardware is capable and i believe it will work on linux.

2. This will hardware decode h.265 MAIN profile, it will not decode MAIN 10 profile which is becoming more popular. at 720p it might manage in software but at 1080p not a chance. (im talking about the n3700 here, the n3050 probably doesn't have the power to do it even at 720p).

Obviously for a lot of people this probably isn't going to matter but i thought it was worth mentioning.

Good price. Just a shame there is no lan port built in or i would have one for kodi.

Best source of info for it I found so far is this at Amazon.com - Linky - ideal spec for Kodi/Openelec - but it's not passive and the reviews are mixed. I'll wait on a deal for a Beebox :smiley:

If only using for openelec you cannot beat the rpi2 at the minute imo.

If it helps, the N3000 model of the Beebox, which is £114.99 on Amazon can be had for around £101-102 delivered via Flubit. They came back with £102.11 for the white one for me, and £101.88 for the black one. This was yesterday.

Bit limited as a PC as the CPU is very low benchmark,
Too expensive just for Kodi - eg Kindle Fire Stick is only £35, even cheaper than a Pi 2 with all the needed extras.

Ebuyer actually have the N3700 version going for £139.98
This processor has a benchmark of 1898 compared to 882 for the N3050

Seems it has 32GB eMMC storage built in with no room for expansion. :disappointed:

I've voted this hot for the price if you just need a ready-to-go system, but the Asrock Beeboxes can be had for as little as £101 delivered, and offer far more flexibility and usefulness. Yes, you need to add memory and storage to them, but still way better value than this deliberately crippled product from Acer.

I know they're very different, but any opinions on whether to go for this or NVidia Shield TV for Kodi and streaming games from my PC?

There is a sata hard drive bay under the top orange part of the box according to a youtube video I've seen.

Just installing 10 on mine and very disappointed to find it eMMC storage and not SSD as advertised . Might be reason enough to send it back
