Joking aside..i am looking for a good battery powered clock. It looks good, but the bell puts me off a bit. I like to be woken up nice and gently.

Use your smartphone - there are apps that will allow you to set an alarm that starts off quietly and ramps up slowly so you don't wake with a start but you can't ignore it either. My old Samsung used to do it out of the box (SmartAlarm I think it was called), I now use "Alarm Clock Plus" on Android.

Had a few Acctim clocks and have all been badly designed. Our bedside clock's display cannot be seen from the bed, and can only be seen if you stand up and view from a higher angle. Date format is always wrong as well eg mm:dd:yy

Ha, that's exactly what I do. My Sony phone starts off nice and calm!
I would like to find a decent additional battery powered clock though, like this, but just not the dreaded bell!

Yeh, actually thinking about it...my 'soothing' alarm does have to go off several times before I'm able to drag myself out of bed. So not a bad idea, and maybe the bell would have more effect!
