My pc costs 1400 but this build would play most games on very good settings and is upgradeable. Some parts such as the wifi and dvd writter or xbox wireless fob or keyboard can take a hundred of build cost and would still be a better buy over all. I prefer intel but this amd chip is alright.

ACER use a specific PSU with a 12 pin connector not the usual 24. they also use foxconn motherboards with the 12 pin connector. so if you change your psu youre gonna need a new motherboard aswell. I had a acer predator originally, and due to overheating issues i needed a new case with more ventilation, as well as a new psu and motherboard as the psu connector was too short for a bottom psu installation.

TL;DR if youre planning to change your psu, find one with a 12 pin connector (extremely rare/impossible) or get a new motherboard aswell along with the psu.

Would this be good for gaming I know the graphics card probably needs upgrading but what about the processor. The processor on its own is around £250.

As for the PC, it's good for.....well I don't know really. A smaller harddrive paired with an SSD would be preferable without a doubt. Same goes for the pointless addition of R7 graphics, onboard graphics chip is probably on par. RAM is cheap as chips at the moment but it's rare to require any more than 8GB. If you're buying as a cheap "gaming pc" with the intention of sticking a graphics card in then your money would be better spent elsewhere. As a workstation, it's fine, probably overkill if anything. For the parts in there it's a good deal, and voted hot, but anyone looking at buying should think carefully about their needs.

Graphics - Radeon R7

So that's R7 240 then no surprise there.

Graphics card is Radeon R7 240 according to spec sheet on the Acer site.

While as a sum of all its parts it's a decent deal, in practical terms to get it up to a gaming standard you'd have to upgrade it to a point where you may as well have built your own PC and will waste money in the process. Otherwise this has few other specialist uses like photo and video editing or extremely expensive office machine.

Going by that spec sheet the PSU is only 300W so sticking any semi powerful graphics card into it will mean you need to upgrade that. These also tend to have poor cases, something you can live with and motherboards tend to be rather basic. When you start to add them up then outside the powerful CPU you're looking at spending more than you would have in the first place building something.

Not everyone is into gaming, this would be an excellent and powerful video/photo editing PC with loads of headroom for everything else, it's just needs the addition of a small and cheap SSD for the operating system to be complete.

Yeah I agree with that, my response was actually to a post asking if it's good for gaming but I forgot to quote. Motherboard here does also have RAM limit of 16GB but unless you're doing some very serious editing then probably won't want any more than that.


In all honesty if you have the skill to replace the PSU and GPU you may as well build a whole new machine for £600 with great flexibility in choosing your components, not to mention better warranty since lot of parts carry 3+ year warranty on them. Also as pointed out above, upgrading these machines can be difficult due to proprietary OEM components, I wasn't sure if manufacturers still did that but seems they do.

The comments showing how this £400 wouldn't make a good gaming PC, with an upgrade it could be but easier to build new. I'm guessing for more than £400 and more into the £600 mark minimum and it always shows how ona. budget a gaming PC still is expensive. Then not having the know how to build a PC or not so much the now how but the fact being on a budget, trying to build a PC for the first time and you break a part then this isn't very feasible to just wing it or watch YouTube videos.

This is why, loving PCs and would love a beast gaming one, I'd rather console gaming.

in regards to the deal, have some heat.

you can replace an existing gpu with 750ti or 960 if willing to spend more, without changing psu and sold the old card for around 30£ which could be deposit for your ssd (depends on size and brand) and your sistem is complete!

With regards to console games being more expensive, that isn't necessarily true - there are (legal) ways to get games for a significant discount.
There's positives and negatives to both really.
