7th April - Leave Manchester mid morning and land in Dubai around midnight, check straight into the hotel and get your head down to be fully refreshed for the day ahead.

Dubai - This uber modern city is one of the places to be this year, there is so much to see and do make sure you plan your trip well. I've chosen the 4* Best Western Premier which is located close to Dubai's airport, this hotel has amazing reviews on TripAdvisor.
Abu Dhabi - Spend a few nights in this lovely city, I've chosen the 4* Jannah Burj Al Sarab which again has great reviews on TripAdvisor
Budapest - Easily one of my favourite cities, so much to see and do, as you've only got one day here, use it wisely, make sure you plan ahead, my personal favourite is Fisherman's Bastion which overlooks the river and parliament, beautiful! I've chosen the Hotel Sunshine for you to stay in, and reachable by bus to the airport in just 30 minutes!

There is plenty to do in Abu Dhabi and you can get a drink for a reasonable price ie many hotels such as Holiday Inn downtown will do a pint during happy 3 hours for less than £4. Just for the opulence and mother of all shopping malls it is well worth a visit to Marina Mall or, where locals and 'normal' folk go Al WAHDAH mall. A £6 cab fair each way or a 50p aircon bus will take to the superb naturally sandy Saadiyat beach overlooking the Persian Gulf. The more famous Corniche is a little grimy for my liking. Sheikh Zayed mosque is an absolute must for the sheer splendor and, again, opulence and I would recommend a visit in time for the call to prayer at dusk standing in the miiddle of the outside huge internal marble square, Tuesday evenings you can hire a bike for an hour and ride around the F1 racetrack. To rub shoulders with the mega rich pay £7 for a cup of coffee on the private beach in front of the 7* Emirates Palace Hotel and petrolheads can gawp at the cars in front of the hotel. I dont know Dubai so well but a visit to the worlds tallest building, in time for sunset, is a must and be sure to book in advance paying around £25 or else it's close to £100 on the day. Emiratis are friendly enough but, like most, dont take too kindly to idiots and racists.

What a backward country. So many things about these places is almost medieval. You couldn't pay me £396 to travel there to be honest. You are technically committing a crime there by sharing your hotel room with your girlfriend/boyfriend. Sounds like fun!

I read in lots of places things like this, but anecdotally I don't find it to be true - my cousin lived with his girlfriend in Dubai for over 6 months before they got married and never had a problem. They have friends who have apparently done the same.
I have friends who live out there who are always posting pictures from the beach on facebook - men and women in the picture.
I have never had a problem getting alcohol over there and never seen a woman being given a hard time over what they wear even if they are in shorts and a T shirt or a (reasonably) revealing dress.
As long you don't get smashed (or at least, don't do it on the streets), don't get into a fight, aren't abusive, and don't fool around with a person of the opposite sex in the streets you will be absolutely fine - but if you can't go on holiday without doing those things then there are better and cheaper places for you to go.
Long and short, don't be an idiot and you'll be fine in Dubai.

Although it is easy to forget, compared to many countries, we live in much more tolerant, progressive and free society so it is natural that many of us would find laws like this to be seriously old-fashioned and controlling.
The reality is I could not visit this country together with my partner without breaking the law - they may well turn a blind eye to it but do I really want to take that risk?

Dubai is pretty safe, no threat of terrorism there lol, amazing how much the media cause fear in people when you are much more likely to be killed by a family member, heck you are more likely to have a frozen block of ice fall on your head outdoors than to be killed by a terrorist attack.
Dubai was an amazing experience, it makes you think why we live in such a dump in the UK, the quality of life is better and safer in Dubai as well, highly recommend visiting once in your life, this deal is a brilliant price but it's going to be exhausting :/

Just came back Xmas time with kids..2 weeks in Dubai and no issues whatsoever...there are no threats of any kind and we were getting into hotel on many nights at 12 ish ...totally safe...the streets and malls are buzzing with people even at that time.

A bit of a mess of an itinerary and the price should be amended to include baggage in my opinion.
Manchester to Dubai - 7 hours minimum plus 2 hours at the airport (and on budget carrier)
Minimum 2.5 hour drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi x 2
6-hour flight from Dubai to Budapest plus 2 hours at the airport - minimum
3-hour flight from Budapest to Manchester plus 2 hours at the the airport
That's in excess of 24 hours budget travelling on a 9-day itinerary. For anyone not used to a lot of travelling that will be gruelling. You can add to that 6 check in/outs at the hotels for added annoyance.
The deal just strikes me as an exercise in getting from A-B via X in as cheap a way as possible without any real thought for the traveller or quality of the experience.

Some of the stuff I read about Dubai on here is incredible! Threats of terrorism! Can't drink or have fun! You'll get arrested for holding hands! Can't go with your boy/girl friend!!
It is far safer in respect of terrorism and general crime than this country and most of the places most Brits will go to.
Alcohol is widely available without issue and you can and will have an amazing time, they don't call it the Vegas of the Middle East for nothing.
It is promoted as a romantic getaway location, unmarried couples live and travel there all the time.
It's worth remembering that in this country you can also get arrested for:
Sex in public,
Public indecency,
Causing a public disturbance,
Being drunk and disorderly.
But have the same rules in an Arab country and people go nuts.
Hundreds of thousand of Brits live there with no problem.
Millions of Brits travel there with no problem.
Some Brits go and behave badly and get arrested. They get published in the Daily Mail and everyone panics, but how many Brits go to Spain, Greece, Cyprus etc and get arrested without it ever making the papers? You can get arrested in any country for being drunk and disorderly or publicly indecent.
If you don't trust yourself to behave while you are on holiday then don't go, but don't peddle misinformed rubbish about it. And for people who like to say "oh, but the law says..." you can find authority in England for laws that also say:
You can't be drunk in a pub,
You can't sound your car horn in anger,
You can't write on a bank note,

I've never been to Dubai, but have been doing a fair bit of research and what you are saying seems to be mostly correct. If you behave yourself and don't draw attention to yourself by getting bladdered or causing a public disturbance then you will be fine. That said, I feel it would still be pretty imprudent not to look into the laws you could be breaking, as some of the punishments can be pretty stiff by western standards. (This unfortunately seems to apply extra to homosexual couples). It's easy to see why people have genuine concerns about visiting places in the middle east.

You can probably google it to find out more, but it is quite a common occurrence - planes that have small leaks in water pipes will cause ice to accumulate on the outside of the cabin and if enough builds off it will fall to the ground.

The reality is I could not visit this country together with my partner without breaking the law - they may well turn a blind eye to it but do I really want to take that risk?

Dubai was an amazing experience, it makes you think why we live in such a dump in the UK, the quality of life is better and safer in Dubai as well, highly recommend visiting once in your life, this deal is a brilliant price but it's going to be exhausting :/

Manchester to Dubai - 7 hours minimum plus 2 hours at the airport (and on budget carrier)
Minimum 2.5 hour drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi x 2
6-hour flight from Dubai to Budapest plus 2 hours at the airport - minimum
3-hour flight from Budapest to Manchester plus 2 hours at the the airport
That's in excess of 24 hours budget travelling on a 9-day itinerary. For anyone not used to a lot of travelling that will be gruelling. You can add to that 6 check in/outs at the hotels for added annoyance.
The deal just strikes me as an exercise in getting from A-B via X in as cheap a way as possible without any real thought for the traveller or quality of the experience.
It is far safer in respect of terrorism and general crime than this country and most of the places most Brits will go to.
Alcohol is widely available without issue and you can and will have an amazing time, they don't call it the Vegas of the Middle East for nothing.
It is promoted as a romantic getaway location, unmarried couples live and travel there all the time.
It's worth remembering that in this country you can also get arrested for:
Sex in public,
Public indecency,
Causing a public disturbance,
Being drunk and disorderly.
But have the same rules in an Arab country and people go nuts.
Hundreds of thousand of Brits live there with no problem.
Millions of Brits travel there with no problem.
Some Brits go and behave badly and get arrested. They get published in the Daily Mail and everyone panics, but how many Brits go to Spain, Greece, Cyprus etc and get arrested without it ever making the papers? You can get arrested in any country for being drunk and disorderly or publicly indecent.
If you don't trust yourself to behave while you are on holiday then don't go, but don't peddle misinformed rubbish about it. And for people who like to say "oh, but the law says..." you can find authority in England for laws that also say:
You can't be drunk in a pub,
You can't sound your car horn in anger,
You can't write on a bank note,

It's always good to be aware of the laws of a country, but the problem with just googling laws or only paying attention to newspaper stories is that common sense can go out of the window because of one or two high profile cases. People end up thinking that all the Dubai government wants to do is throw you in jail, that's the last thing they want as they need the tourist industry.

You have to understand, that a lot of people pay attention to reputable websites and media sources. Some also pay attention to less reputable ones. You're just a guy that we don't know, posting on HUKD. So no matter how ridiculous you say some of these posts are, a lot of human rights abuses do take place in Dubai, and that puts people off.
