but in the real world your average user will not notice these routing priorities. they will notice saving money every month compared to the network SIM only/contract deals.

My experience with iD mobile isn't even as good as terrible. I have half a service from them as the port from my previous provider hasn't completed, so although I can make calls, inward calls go straight to the voicemail of the previous company, which I can no longer access. The Customer Service staff are unhelpful, difficult to understand & make promises that are never kept. My initial bill is several times more than the contract I signed up for & I have it in writing that they don't make "goodwill gesture refunds" to compensate for the terrible service. There are several reviews of this terrible company on testpilot & how I wish I'd read them first! Although people are more likely to complain than compliment, some of the issues on the site are incredibly bad.

Be careful. The Goto plans DO NOT tell you when you are about to use up your alliwance and there are extortionate charges for going over it. The bill payer can download an app to monitor useage but this means it is totally inappropriate for a child. My first GoTo15.50 bill was actually £70 because my son thought he was connected to wiFi when he wasn't. We had 500mb of data and assumed we'd be notified when it was nearly gone- andctold the charges for continyed use. We weren't. We are currently in disputecwith them as they will not switch us to a more appropriate plan for an eleven year old. (We'd need to pay hundreds of pounds.)

Its best to shuffle between companies anyway, if you give any of them an inch they will take a mile. They expect you to not want to mess about and keep changing around and just submit to their price increases every year..

Having been on giffgaff for a few years now and watching the data allowance gradually whittled away to only 1GB for the £10 goodybag and £12 for just 2GB i have ordered the £10 for 4GB deal (2GB doubled for 12 months) leave at any time. I get good coverage where I live on the 3 network so giving this a try.
I am loyal to a company as long as they are loyal to me. I would have remained with giffgaff if they kept the data allowance the same. They are fobbing people off with 4G speeds which is useless to me as my Galaxy S2 is only 3G capable.

Thanks ,I like to get something that's a long term deal that I don't have to switch around without the hassle , I'm currently with three who I was with for 4 years and had a cracking deal for £15 unlimited data and tethering and unlimited text and 5000minutes and then decided to remove there deal from me as I've out run the contract so nothing I can do :disappointed: now asking for £30 :disappointed: like to see if I can achieve a sim only that close to this with tethering available

They use EE.

Another option you could consider would be the EE MTV Trax SIMs which give you 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 7GB of data each month for a £15 topup. This is tetherable too, and is 4G. However the offer is only for the first three months and after that the data allowance drops to 2GB - but it is a great short term solution on Pay As You Go. After three months just get your PAC and look elsewhere.
You also get access to the MTV Trax app, if you're into that kind of music.

Unfortunately moving plans isn't possible with iD for some reason, and the only way to do so is to port out to another network (Pay As You Go) and port back in again.

This is one of the main downfalls of iD.

If you do go down that route you must inform them at the very beginning of the conversation. If you tell them at the end or towards the end then it becomes unlawful.

Having been on other piggy back Sims in the pass, never again - poor data speeds and coverage (although 3 isn't too bad for coverage) doesn't justify the saving. It isn't worth it for me

On EE myself, I admit I'm on a 12 month sim only but same deal as above but I get unlimited calls/texts but the saving over a 12 month period is about £25 for me, but I just class that as a charge for better coverage and faster data - I travel a lot around the county and never had an issue with it.

That being said, if you don't travel much or have great use for your phone, this is cheaper than the major networks - I won't vote

When negotiating with a business like this I recommend recording your calls and asking them if they mind (consent to) you recording. You'll find it's hard for them to disagree, after all.. they are recording you!

I use a portable recorder and talk on speakerphone. I'll get the person to identify themselves.

Just doing this let's them know you mean business which reduces the chance of you being messed about, but also you proof should you need to escalate a claim. If a dispute arises ask for a manager and explain what you were told (your verbal agreement) and by whom, that you have a recording of it, it makes all the difference...

I've experienced poor customer service over the years, but my recent dealings with ID mobile plumbed new depths. A quick note for people who sign up to a SIM Only Plan which has the 'Double your Data' (something like that, not sure of the exact wording) agreement. My 30 day rolling contract is 2gb of data per month, with 2gb extra each month for 12 months.

currently their online portal will only show the normal 2GB and not the extra agreed amount in your monthly total. they have agreed that I will get my full 4GB, but I'm currently in an email ding dong trying to get an explanation to how I'll know when I get near/use up my allowance. I know my phone can do a decent job of doing that, however I want to know what they can see. they do appear to have a monthly total but asking for exact clarification from them, considering something doesn't work as expected.

otherwise I have had no problem porting my number, with call quality or data speed.

cheap, but god help you if you ever decide to leave them. 5 months after leaving them I am still trying to get them to stop sending threatening emails about cutting off my service. every time I call them they confirm that I don't owe them anything. They can't email me to confirm that because emails are dealt with by the email team. To get that response, I have to email the email team, explain my situation, and they 'may' email me. In short, they are a shambles. they never do what they promise to do. Customer service is in Cape Town. Always pleasant, but frankly, useless.

the only issue I've encountered is the app occasionally give me notifications that i'm 70/80% into my data allowance but when i check I've still got 3/4Gb. Apart from that i would recommend.

Your daughter is only 11 years old; now unless she's got a business, business cards or a personal website that needs to be kept up to date with her contact details and at an expense what's the problem with her changing her number... Where's the drama?

Keep in mind the whole point of this company is to bring us the bare minimal for cheap. If you expect them to provide the same level of service that the more expensive companies provide you should expect to pay more and have to complain less.. As you're not paying that premium, you musn't grumble.

In terms of reception (I live in Loughborough, Leics), I've had no loss of signal, and found it to be far and away better than Virgin Mobile, whom I used before. I've also use my phone for sat nav, surfing, tether and I've been to Wales, Cheltenham, London and not seen any issues with signal. I'm not sure if it applies to this 30 rolling contract, but on my deal ID also roll over your unused Data, and I mainly use Wifi, so it's adding up.

They do have the biggest network presently and the fastest, without doubt. I dislike their customer service, but moving to bigger or better plans on other networks would be useless to me, I would never get the speeds to trouble the data offerings!

Was with them for 2 months, on a £5 contract, first month wrong bill, £10, they gave back "online" money, not to my bank account, decided do end contract because I want more data, they told me it needs 30 days to disconnect, so 1 more month, 2nd month came, again wrong invoice, £8.5, now I´m deciding to not stick with them.
If in 2 months I had problems, can´t imagine how it would be to stick with them...

Can confirm this from my own experience, ordered one of their sim only deals just before christmas, when the sim turned up I put it in my sim free handset and it wouldn't connect to their network. So gave them a call and went through the usual questions regarding whether the handset was unlocked and so on, when they then confirmed that there was an issue with the network in my area which should be resolved in 5-7 days!

Asked them there and then to cancel the contract as the CS to that point just felt off and the expected length of the network outage was concerning, they said that was no problem and that it was done there and then. Thankfully I cancelled the direct debit myself as this week I have had several emails across 2 days stating that they are having issues taking funds from my direct debit and that it would incur additional charges to my account. Had to call them again today to get them to cancel the account, which after 15mins on hold they have now told me is done.

It's a shame that they seem like such a bunch of clowns as the price is tough to beat

I don't have any issues with their 4g performance (former giffgaff customer that got fed up with giffgaff's feeble data speeds). However i've noticed ID have improved packages which i'd like but it's a shame they don't have an option for you to upgrade or switch plans. I looked at iD. Looked at the reviews. And then phoned Three and switched to the 30 day/200 minutes/unlt texts/12gb 4g (tethering allowed) for £20 a month. No FUP/shaping/throttling according to them. Signal is good in my area (Edinburgh) now. The away from home thing is handy. (not sure how much difference it will be once they change the roaming rules?), but I wish it covered holland.....

I was paying £18 for the one plan and using less than this so I can live with a £2 hike. And they're still cheaper than all but a couple of virtual operators....

Looks like I'm one of the few, but I'm happy with ID.

Take in mind I moved from TalkTalk (Vodafone) where I could only pick up 2G signals at home, and in Cardiff Central I was on Edge half the time - usually had to stand outside coffee shops, etc hogging their WiFi!

With ID my download speed indoors is around 12 MB/Sec so that's perfectly fine for me. Not had a reason to phone customer services apart from to get my activation code which was taking too long to get texted so by the time it did the page would expire.

Only the worst 4G coverage according to Ofcom, although it's worst by quite some margin. Seems to be the second best in terms of 3G coverage though...

Port took an extra day, their app told me I'd run out of data (basically, they double your data by adding a free extra data pack rather than changing the tarriff) and I can't login via the website, only the Android app?!

Other than that, works better than Vodafone speed wise, roams on EE 2G in the countryside and unlike Vodafone/O2 voicecalls work even with 1 bar.

My son uses about the same as you per month - averaging around 45gb.

Just a heads up - you'll get a letter soon saying that they are going to change you to another contract as that offer does not exist and all customers are being (forced) moved to one of their more expensive contracts. The cheapest now is £20 for unlimited data.

It's a right con but you can't do anything about it as no-one offers unlimited data (no GiffGaff doesn't count because they throttle you after a certain amount)... so you're stuck!

They only way I got around it was to buy the 12 month unlimited data contract for £20 a month via Quidco which gave £50 cashback so brings it down to around £16 a month for a year - Three don't care if you threaten to leave (which normally works). They know there is no competition in the market so are abusing their monopoly.

I have a couple of contracts with them and they wouldn't budge - they offered me every other contract - thousands of minutes a billion texts - but unlimited data is not negotiable - try and you'll see.

They cannot get my tarrif correct so have been charging me £50-£70 each month, should be £10. I keep ringing they refund them take it out again a few days later. I'm still owed over £200 :disappointed:. It's been a complete nightmare and really wish I had read their reviews first, check out Facebook and Twitter and look at reviews!

I signed up for them in mid december on a 1 month contract sim only, ditched them after 17 days. Service was bad, the 4g was bad. Various areas would give me no service or 1 bar and poor 4G. Never had issues when I was with tesco.
HaraldBB to Agent47

Have you ever thought it may be your handset to blame?

Tesco is using O2 network which has 800MHz band only. It gives excellent coverage but poor speeds and poor network capacity (compared to other bands).
Three has 800MHz and 1.8GHz bands. If your phone doesn't have 1.8GHz band, you may be not able to connect to local base stations.

I have comparison between Three and EE network and in most places Three currently has better signal. Including various holiday spots in Wales where EE was either not present, or it was only weak 2G signal. Three was weak but usable 3G.

Only place I found so far where Three sucks is Stansted airport area. Signal is strong (full bars) but network capacity is disgrace, which means your data transmission speed is close to zero for most of the time. And they keep blaming "temporary network issues" for many months now.
This is only coverage problem I found so far after years.

I am not sure if it's still available, but with Three you used to be able to get 600 minutes, 5000 texts and 1gb data for about £10 then there was a all you can eat data add on for about £3. Basically I get 600 min, 5000 txt, unlimited data for no more than £13 a month, plus all the free benefits like 4G, Feel at Home e.t.c

Be careful with these lot, bought a sim plan from them, called them up and cancelled the contract within the first 14 days, was assured it was cancelled, called up again about a day after and spoke to someone else who also confirmed that the account had been cancelled, few months later recieved a letter threatening to pass my details onto a debt collecting agency/take me to court as i had fallen behind on a couple of months payment, called them up and guess what...the account was still active!

Have been assured this time that it has been cancelled by the bloke over the phone, when i asked for a letter to be sent out confirming the cancellation due to what's happened i was told i would need to go their website and email them, and that he couldn't do it on my behalf, ah, what outstanding customer service, emailed them and have been told i'll be sent a letter, i ain't holding my breath...

I've been with ID nearly a month - honestly can't complain too much tbh.

Number ported ok. Have the allocated double data. Nice app. At times it does take a while to switch from wifi to data, but can't say i notice it much anymore. Signal in my house is pretty much the same as it was with EE (low bars.) Other than that, living and working in London - does the job. I turned off 4g so no comment about that...

I read far too many bad reviews about ID, and even after i ordered, was tempted to cancel as i had concerns. Will keep folks updated.

I've had Three on a cheap contract (no tethering option paid for) and now on payg. With contract, even trying to tether an iPad to an iPhone was instantly blocked. You could purchase a limited-time tethering bolt on in an emergency, but it could take 48 hours to activate!!

On payg by contrast, tethering is clearly working, though I've not tried doing it for more than half an hour at a time. The business logic seems to be, firmly discourage tethering if it would allow people to use up an over large phone data allowance, but don't bother with the overhead of monitoring packets if people are paying for every extra MB anyway.
buglawton
15 Jan 16 #74
I can use my pay as you go 3 phone in tethering mode. It's an essential back-up as I work from home or away from the office at times. Also in case home broadband is down. Oh and works nicely with iPad. 1p/MB is acceptable. So where all these MVNO deals fall down is not offering even a limited tethering allowance out of a huge data bundle you'll probably never consume in a month.
jazzuk777 to buglawton
16 Jan 16 1 #83
Really? Three are very clear they do not allow tethering on the PAYG offers, only on contract...

I've been battling for the last 3 months getting rid of iD. There is no signal at my home address, even though they say it's very good. I've been ringing them daily and being told there is a temporary network fault which will be fixed by tomorrow/end of week/next 48 hrs etc etc
They refuse to accept any responsibility. I did manage to speak to one very helpful (but barely understandable) indian lady who eventually aggreed to cancel my contract, and refund the money I had paid. She said it would all be done within a week.
I rang again a week later and was told that I had it all wrong, they would not cancel anything, and that I had to keep paying until the end of my 2 year agreement, even though I could not make or recieve calls. They further said that my file showed no contact from me until that day! I politely told them the date and time, plus the name of the person I had spoken to for every call I had made to them.
Following a long silence she said I must be mistaken, and she would ring me back after speaking to her supervisor/manager. After 2 days waiting for a call back I rang again, and as expected they had no record of me being told I could cancel, then told me to go back to the shop who arranged my contract and get them to pay off my contract, as iD were not in any way responsible for there being no network coverage at my home, even though their own site showed it as being excellent.
I have now taken out a new contract with EE, but I still have a large bill outstanding from iD, which the manager,Dan, at Car Phone Warehouse, Norwich says he will get paid, so I'm just waiting for iD to send me the details.
Bottom laine is: Avoid iD like the plague, they have no concept of customer service, and will lie through their teeth to avoid accepting any responsibility.
Finally I have to say all the staff at CarPhone Warehouse in Norwich have been brilliant, and spent many hours on the phone trying to get this matter resolved.

I'm currently with ID - and each morning the data never works. The only workaround I found is to put my phone into airplane mode, then immediately back to normal. It disconnects from the network, reconnects, and straight away the data works as good as can be. Very strange but does the job for me (HTC One)

I wouldn't touch ID with a barge pole. I've literally just transferred both my son & my mobile off ID Mobile after about 6 weeks after bagging what I thought was an absolute bargain Black Friday deal.

The first SIM didn't have the right amount of data. I naively thought this would be an easy fix. Yet it baffled several cust. service agents and the Facebook page team who couldn't resolve it and in the end I was advised to close the account and start another.

Oh and when I posted on their FB page about my problems, I had a random person message me directly telling me to cancel ASAP as she was still being charged incorrectly but she was stuck with a contract. Just how bad can someone's experience be that they feel the need to warn random people directly through Facebook!?! Probably slightly worse than me who is trying to warn you all here!!!

The second SIM came with the right data on it. Except now their website & app where they want you to do things like port your number was down more than it was up! I persevere and eventually get through and tap in my PAC code. Nope. Won't have it. Try again next day. Nothing. Call up the call centre who accept the PAC code. Next day....nothing. Three more days....nothing. Eventually I try the app again. Accepts it this time and my number is duly ported.

My son's SIM came with the right data etc. Except this time they set up not one, not two but four direct debits to my account. They assure me it's not an issue but without needing to tempt fate I cancel three of them. Again, porting the number was a nightmare.

In use, when it works, it's fine. Happy days. But all too often you get a 3G/4G signal but no data. This never happened to me when I was a 3 customer so I assume it's ID mobile related.

The website & app are still intermittently unavailable.

Eventually we both got tired of the non-stop problems and moved off to Giffgaff. Process was smooth and no problems now!

In short, go with ID Mobile and you will wish you paid slightly more and gone with someone else. I didn't think service would be so bad given my experiences with the likes of EE & Vodafone. But I was wrong. By comparison the major networks are caring & cuddly.

A lesson for some here it seems.

I would never consider switching to a network (especially one running off Three) without at least seeing what sort of signal I got with a PAYG SIM. Yes, its an MNVO so a full test is difficult without knowing someone already on the network, but how hard is it to at the very least stick a Three PAYG SIM in and see how many bars you got before considering ID mobile? That would at least confirm that you aren't in a completely dead spot.

Anyone know if you can use "Three inTouch" on iD mobile or is there an equivalent. I am currently on O2 and due to poor signal in my home I use TuGo to send texts/make calls via my WiFi. Therefore if I went with iD and the signal at home was poor I would like to be able to use an equivalent service (Three in Touch is the equivalent to TuGo for Three customers but I don't know whether it is available to iD customers). Thanks

I just switched to the 4gb/£10 deal last week, previous number ported over without no issues, everything was smooth but there is absolutely no signal whatsoever in my house, it constantly cycles through 'emergency calls only' and one bar of signal. Even when I'm out and about, I've had a maximum of three bars out of four and not for long. Going to give it a few more days to see if it picks up, if not I'm getting on the phone to them to cancel and get my money back as the signal strength is nowhere near what is listed on their coverage checker. Cheap deal, yes, but what's the point if you can barely get a signal to call someone, let alone 4g speed data!

I think I'll be leaving t-mobile after 5 years when contract expires in March - averaging just over 100gb/ month but on 3g using iplayer and youtube. Their 4g EE deals are now astronomical compared to the £15/month I currently pay for 3g on tmob. I have friends and family discount with them but each year the discount gets less and less so hopefully idmobile will still be around end of March, but with higher data.

Please note that we do not allow tethering on any of our current plans. the service itself is excellent. in the London area I had a much better signal for calls and data than Vodafone. However, customer service is shockingly bad. I had issues over billing that took months to resolve and they refused to transfer me to a lower priced tariff (I was on a 30 day rolling contract) and said I needed to leave and rejoin. I decided to leave and am yet to look back. This offer is very tempting, but I don't use enough data to really justify it.

Now paying £5 a month. So far so good. Data is fast and call connection is as good as it was with O2 (which is just average in my area).
