Honestly, no need.....as long as you are eating a balanced diet (and taking in approx 1-1.2g per kg bodyweight of protein from dietary sources - very easy to do so) then you will fine.

If you increase either the duration of your cardio (in excess of 90 mins daily) and / or add extra volume in terms of your weight training, then look to increase to 1.5 - 2g per kg bodyweight as a minimum.

hope this helps  I would save your money at this stage, unless protein intake is tricky (fussy eater, allergies etc)....

Thank you so much for this info! How on earth does the protein escape the bag?? I've got some nearing it's best before date and I want to quickly trap the protein in there before it evaporates. Would putting it in a steel safe work? Thanks in advance!

Makes one wonder about the quality... Wonder what an independent test would show on protein content when it's this price? If it's fine, then it shows how much the money they make off us. P. S. The Protein Works has a crazy same ATM too.

100% agree. I have been ordering from myprotein for years, had a few problems with customer service, one I had an order cancelled from themselves because they told me a discount code should not have worked with my order, but they did not refund my money and it took me 2 month to finally get a refund with a lot of hassle! The second being that I ordered 3 5kg bags of whey, they sent me the complete wrong order, and after making contact with them numerous times, they first basically called me a liar and said it was not possible, then in the end they told me I would have to return the items at my expense then they would look to see what can be done, but refused to tell me before I returned them what they would do once they received the order. Luckily, that order was purchased through amazon, I made a complaint with them, and after amazon stepped in and were also not happy with the reply they received from myprotein, amazon issued a full refund without me having to return anything, apsolutely dreadfull customer service from these people.

On Amazon atm.. Bulkpowders have £35.99 for 5kg. I'm a massive fan of my protein but got the 5kg from bulkpowders. Maybe I should have waited.. More servings from my protein but less protein per serving so that's probably why.

I think people get a bit carried away and think a protein shake is going to do something you wouldn't get otherwise. There are two advantages to protein shakes, firstly it's easier to consume than food (food makes you feel fuller than drink) and secondly it's cheaper. This deal works out to £6.20/kg of powder and at 78% protein that's £7.95/kg of protein. To give you an idea, minced beef is the equivalent of £21.52/kg

The second benefit is ease of consumption. If you've got a target of 150g of protein a day it might not be that enjoyable. That might be 500g of meat or fish a day which some people wouldn't want to eat, or simply find it very hard to eat.

If money is no object and you don't mind, or would like to eat a lot, then protein powder isn't much use. For those on tight budgets it can be a cheap and convenient way of getting more protein without spending a lot or consuming a lot of calories. Just remember it's not necessary for many people.
alexc100
4 Jan 16 #39
This stuff is cheap for a reason. I bought ten kilos of it last January and it's still in the cupboard. Doesn't thicken well and tastes about average. Not sure about the quality of the actual ingredients though.

To summarise though, it's okay but I wouldn't buy it again.
crazzzzzy_b to alexc100
4 Jan 16 #56
What flavours did you buy? Most seem decent and mix well some better than others.

Natural strawberry best I have had mixes easily
Cookies and cream ok doesn't mix as well bit sickly
White chocolate just tastes like creamy milk mixes well
Chocolate any of them not a fan mixes well. Chemically taste like chocolate ice cream
Mint choc better and mixes well
Raspberry nice and mixes well
Vanilla nice and mixes well

Havnt tried an sepia ones so can't comment
faipdeooiad to alexc100
5 Jan 16 #59
Of course it doesn't thicken - it's a whey concentrate - look at the Ingredients and tell me what's supposed to thicken it?

It's a thin protein because it's not packed with thickeners like guar gum

Great deal!!

Don't understand the comments about taste to be honest... Isn't the reason for consuming protein shakes for their nutritional benefits? I treat this like so and would happily drink the unflavoured one. Just add enough water so that you're able to consume in one or two gulps and (wo)man up!

Depends how much you are using. If you're bulking up and taking lots of protein, things will obviously be different, but if like me you are using one scoop as recovery after a workout, then you will get around 200 servings from a 5kg bag.

I prefer a thicker shake as well, so I just reduced the amount of water I mix it with. Recommended quantity is 150-250ml per scoop, so I just stick to the bottom end of that range and haven't had a problem with it being too thin. There's always the option to mix it with milk instead if even that isn't thick enough.
alexc100
5 Jan 16 1 #71
Calm down - It's just my opinion. No need to get in a tizzy about it is there.

If you're happy with a protein shake that's the consistency of cloudy water than that's fine, but like I said I won't buy this again because it's rank. The recent deal for Optimum Nutrition protein is much better (in my opinion). Feel free to shout me down about that too if you like.

Is this a good alternative for weight loss after gym training compared to Phd diet Whey?
thecynicalsaint to Jijin2
5 Jan 16 #86
It will give your muscles protein to help grow/reair if you train them in the gym, in theory if you are doing resistance/weight work and mixing that up with regular HIIT and maybe a little "traditional" cardio then you will burn fat and gain muscle which is what you want, but you need to make sure you are training at the right intensity and getting your macronutrients (and the timing of them) right first. If you are getting that right then having some protein after a workout will help but the other stuff is much more important when it comes to burning fat - if you aren't getting the other stuff right then extra protein won't do much. There's plenty written about it online, way too much to go into on a thread about protein!
24bar to Jijin2
5 Jan 16 #91
I'm like you in that I use a diet whey (from the protein works). Each serving gives 27g protein with almost no carbs and no fat.
I'm keen on this my protein as 1kg with the protein works is about £28.

I recently ordered the ON protein deal, as the per serving is 24g, but the carb rate was higher than this. I'm thinking of cancelling that order and going with this.

5 Jan 16 #87
Thanks for the info. I have been using Phd diet whey since when I went back to the gym in January of last year (lost 4 stones since then), mainly because when I drink it when I finish my workout (30 mins treadmill cardio and 30 mins machines/weights 2 times a week) I feel much less tired and much more "full". Since I am no expert I was just wondering if this Impact whey would be able to take Phd's place without affecting my weight loss program since it has more kalories and fat for the same amount of powder (at least from what I understood).

I won't lie, I'm interested because this offer makes this whey much cheaper, for Phd I pay around 27£ for 2kgs so this would save me a lot.

As long as you still have a calorific deficit, the small difference in calories and nutrients shouldn't matter. Seeing as you've been losing weight for a year, I'm sure you will be fine.

It's just a convenient dose of protein, there's nothing particular about it that contributes to weight loss. I'm always starving after the gym no matter what so if the shake helps you feel full, I can think of some bad alternatives you might be tempted to eat.

I would go for this especially as you're only having a couple of shakes per week.

Vanilla and natural chocolate mix well in a shake with water, with cold coffee or milk and both are good when baking.

Cookies and cream, unless you already like it I wouldn't risk it. Tastes like sugar mixed with syrup that's been left on the side for a month, does not mix well.

scaryprowler
5 Jan 16 #110
I've heard that as long as you've kept it cool and dry it should be fine for a while after BBE. Remember its 'best before', not 'use by'. Taste can degrade however. Give it a good whiff, if its smelling even a little bit funky, bin it - its not worth the risk with the potential of the bacteria that could form (usually if its been in humid conditions).

Because its one of the fastest digesting most bioavailable proteins.

Supply and demand, there's a huge demand for high quality fast acting protein, this meets that.

You act like people are getting stiffed by buying it, value is relative.

Chocolate is quite nice.. (more like a dairy milk chocolate than a cheap chocolate)
Choc Mint and Blueberry Cheesecake are also nice (although blueberry cheesecake can be a little sickly if used twice a day, every day..), also Vanilla is good if your mixing it

Flavoured drops are a good choice, as you can mix them up so your not having the same flavour every day.. get yourself 4-5 different flavour drops and a bag of unflavoured protein.

As someone said the code does strange things when adding various different flavors. By starting with unflavored 5kg then adding 2nr Chocolate Smooth 5kg, then removing the unflavored I got 10kg of chocolate and a free shaker for £60.58 (that includes a 1% charge for using PayPal). Used to be a big fan of MP from 2011 onwards until about a year ago when for some reason my usual 5KG unflavoured Whey was gritty about halfway in. It felt like it was filled with sand. Asked about it from them, got no response. Asked on their forums, had my post deleted by their moderators

Saying that they are the cheapest and bought a 5kg pouch last month after seeing Labdoors ranking it highly after their experimentations and no sand grittiness so far!

I thought Stracciatella was some sort of bacteria but googling it, it looks delicious. The amount of flavours available is astonishing....

I've used them a few times, one time I had to call customer service and it was some lady that was less than enthused at answering the phone, put me off them. I also got some L-Theanine in bulk and I bet it's cut with racemic R-Theanine as it worked nowhere near as well as the Jarrow L-Theanine brand I was using.

I always buy unflavoured and use this to flavour, it's the best vanilla flavour bar none, very expensive initially but lasts ages and ages and tastes amazing. I tried to substitute it with Now Foods Vanilla Stevia and it tasted like chemicals.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/NuNaturals-Vanilla-Stevia-Alcohol-Free/dp/B0020N3NRC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452013362&sr=8-1&keywords=nunaturals+vanilla+stevia

I've always been interested in Nutrition, even going so far as to fund a degree in Nutritional Therapy so I could learn about it. iHerb in the USA is fantastic, and where I get more exotic supplements from. Ceretropic.com is also amazing but for really really hardcore people that know their stuff and is backed up by a Reddit sub. You shouldn't buy anything from Ceretropic unless you have fully researched it first.

Whey Protein, Creatine and Agmatine, (but cycling Creatine with Agmatine, so they're not taken in the same period as each other), are all worthwhile in my opinion, but I'm not endorsing them, just suggesting, do not take anything on account of someone on the Internet suggesting it's good, everyone has differing body chemistry/composition.

http://www.examine.com is a reasonable place for easy to understand research on supplements.

Thank you so much for this info! How on earth does the protein escape the bag?? I've got some nearing it's best before date and I want to quickly trap the protein in there before it evaporates. Would putting it in a steel safe work? Thanks in advance!

I'm thinking of whether to go 5 or 10kg.
Still got 2kg of some other stuff left to burn through first.

5 Jan 16 1 #139
Lol! Where does the protein go? That's silly. The protein will still be there don't worry :P, it's more whether it will make you sick or not that would worry me, which is unlikely even years after the expiry date as protein powder is dry and at small risk of growing bacteria.

From date of manufacture, which is printed on the bag. Can't see the date of manufacture being too far off the date you actually buy it, especially as its such a big bag

I've been ordering 5kg bags of Chocolate Mint (the best flavour imo) for years and this is by far the cheapest I've seen in that time.

I was actually about to place an order with a 30% off code, good job I happened to look here first! Ordered 10kg, thanks for the code OP

Impact whey - per scoop 103 calories, 21g of protein. £5.99/kg
Whey isolate - per scoop 97 calories, 23g of protein. £10.64/kg

Do you think that an extra 2g of protein in a product that you have once or twice a day is going to make a significant difference? I don't think nearly double the price is worth it.

isolate much better

I've been buying whey from mp for a good few years, I tend to find the expirys are totally random. Often though, when a scorcher of a deal comes up they have a limited shelf life of around 6 months. However I've had ones with 18 month or more on.

My anecdotal experience is that its luck of the draw.

All flavoured options are £10 more expensive than Unflavoured. How are people managing to get the same price for flavoured as unflavoured?
Box to v1jkeane
6 Jan 16 #168
because the code sets the price to £29.99. it isnt a % discount

This deal needs expiring now anyway. price is up to £39.99 with the IWPDEAL code. Better off using the DEAL code instead now and getting 30% off
alanb123365
6 Jan 16 #169
Deal not working for me - when entering the IWPDEAL code it states code applied - 5kg of impact whey protein for £39.99, Am I missing something here? any help much appreciated . Used myprotein for years, great company, love all their products. Strawberry cream is my favorite flavor but all the chocolate ones also good, never had any issues with mixability. This is exactly what it says, just protein, those slating the product need to realise this product is not trying to be anything else, if you want higher end protein, with added carbs, creatine, leucin etc, then myprotein also offer these products. I like to use recovery xs for post workout and I use this on my oats in the morning.
