Things like this truly annoy me. Gluttons gorging themselves on absurd amounts of bad food for 'sport', to the point of being wheeled off to the local hospital expecting to be cared for by the state when their hearts have had enough. No wonder the NHS is on its knees.

Do you realise how judgemental and narrow minded you sound? I'm not a glutton who claims benefits or gorges off the NHS and ordered the Flaming Challenge Burger on the weekend. Why? It only costs £10 and you get a lot of food. I didn't get it to complete the challenge but I was able to take the remainder home to enjoy it the next day. Maybe you should get off your soapbox for a minute.

Our local Flaming Grill is full of unquestionables hanging around inside and out with heavy smoking ,bad language and fighting which puts a lot of people off from going in.
Probably the usual for an outer City area pub but quite off putting these days.

12 Jan 16#56
Of course they exist but just not to the extent that you've alluded to. While I agree that the NHS does get taken advantage of by a certain percentage of the population with weight issues, I personally don't think it's due to pubs like this offering "challenge" meals. I'd rather blame the usual fast food places.
Remus81
12 Jan 16#57
What extent did I allude to? Show me my exact words.
So are you saying that pubs offering challenge meals aren't part of the problem? As bad as they are, at least fast food outlets aren't openly encouraging outright gluttony. Which is a deadly sin for good reason!
Seriously though, if these people pay for their own private healthcare then I don't care what they do to themselves. But the likelihood is that they aren't. So when I see sick people queuing in NHS hospital corridors because there aren't enough beds, then I have a tendency to get a little worked up.
porradude
12 Jan 16#59
By stating that the NHS is on it's knees within this context, you're implying that it is mostly due to the people who get heart conditions specifically from eating these kind of meals from pubs like these. That is the "extent" I was referring to. I respect your opinion but I can't agree with you saying that these restaurants openly encourage these challenges. Specifically because there is a lot more on offer on the menus and people still have a choice. I've been to Flaming Grill pubs quite a few times and I hardly see people actively ordering those meals and then still finishing them.
I do, however, agree with your statement regarding people paying for their private healthcare and the fact that the NHS is inundated with patients who have made the wrong choices.
Remus81
12 Jan 16#60
I have stated on at least one occasion that these 'food challenges' are part of the problem, which they are. They celebrate blatant and unnecessary overindulgence of unhealthy types of food, which in turn establishes the belief in some that this kind of thing is ok, which it isn't.

the burger in the pic doesn't look too bad, but then you read the description.
for £6 you get the equivalent of SIX quarter pounders, southern fried chicken fillet, pulled pork, cheese, bacon, onions and then you also get onion rings and double fries. Quite a crazy deal when you think what you get at other places for the same money.
