This deal is based on 2 people flying out to Venice from East Midlands on 26th January returning on 30th January. You will be staying for 4 nights in the amazing 3* Ca' Bragadin Carabba hotel in the heart of Venice.

Trip breakdown

26th January - The flight is nice and early at just before 10am so you will be landing just after Midday in Venice, as this is Venice Treviso you'll be landing into you will need to hop on a coach to Venice itself which will take around just under an hour. Tickets are available in the airport for around €20 return! When you get to Venice itself make sure you take a map it's quiet complicated to find your way around, check into the lovely hotel and relax!

27th - 28th January - Spend two whole days exploring Venice and it's beautiful surroundings

29th January - The flight is around 1300 so make sure you check out of your hotel fairly early and be on the coach for the airport around 10am so you don't get caught up in traffic and miss the flight!

Venice - This beautiful city is one of my favourite cities, I will be visiting for the 4th time this summer and it's just lovely. There are so many things to see and do, getting lost around the quiet streets, visiting San Marco Piazza the beautiful main square, Rialto bridge and it's market, hopping on a ferry over to Lido for a few hours. Make sure when you're eating out you choose a place a few streets away from San Marco as the prices are sky high due to its location and the foods never as good as in the lovely trattorias! I've chosen the lovely 3* hotel Ca' Bragadin Carabba which is absolutely amazing reviews on TripAdvisor and is located in the heart of Venice, the hotel is luxurious and traditional, a perfect place to stay, it was once home to Casanova!

Price breakdown

Flights to Venice booked with Ryanair - £46.56 - £23.28 each

Venice hotel booked with Hotels.com using discount code EML2016 for %10 off - £135.22 - £67.61 each

Total price for 2 people - £187.78

Total price each £90.89

This deal only includes hand luggage however you need to take a bag with you for 4 nights, you're entitled to 10kg hand luggage and a personal bag. If you do feel you will struggle it costs £15 per bag per sector with Ryanair so you can add a bag for £30 return each if you want to.

Don't forgot many European cities require you pay city tax when checking out, make sure you keep some €€ spare to pay this, it depends on the stars and facilities the hotel offers for how much the city tax is!

Amazing place, went in October for four days. Eating out is priced very similar to the UK (or Rome for that matter) as long as you avoid St Marks Square. Take the number 1 ferry down the river from the train station to St Marks Square at sunset. Beautiful. Below are a couple of pictures from my trip.

I was in Venice last month. To be honest, Venice has become an expensive Disneyland type place. There are far better places to visit in Italy, such as Florence and Rome.

If naffy trinkets are your bag, Venice is the place, otherwise, try Rome. Better history, better shops and cheaper restaurants (still expensive though!)

Rome is crap

Its the biggest tourist trap ive ever seen. You talk about trinkets and fail to mention there are 1000's of knobs on every street corner in rome trying to flog you naff junk.

Ive never been to venice but 4 nights for £90 seems like a cracking deal

Expensive? I couldn't believe how cheap it was. Large glasses of Prosecco for 3 Euros. Snacks for 1euro each. I would imagine it would be expensive around the Square but nowhere else. Even the transport is cheap

Does the room have two single beds or one double?
BlueSkies to NARMAK

The double was cheaper but they did have a twin room for about £5 more in the overall price

nice place went there about 15 years when they had that mask festival but the many little canals still stank bad

i remember i would stand on the little bridges and breath in loudly through my nose and say "ahhh venice" when the locals went by lol my girlfriend was not impressed !

Haha!! Loads of people have said that it smells but it's never smelt when I've been, seems as though I've touched lucky every time I've been, I'd love to be there though for the Carnevale di Venezia , very jealous!

So Rome, a city that contains the colosseum, St Peters basilica, the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel, the army memorial Parthenon thing (whose name I forget), the trevi fountain and the gardens outside of the colosseum which is steeped in history, wonderful food and cheap, good quality booze is apparently "crap" because a few guys flog handbags on street corners who absolutely do not bother you unless you approach them?

Alright mate. I implore everyone else to visit Rome of you haven't already. It was the home of one of civilisations greatest empires and is absolutely awe inspiring.
pippin000
5 Jan 16 #16
I was going to reply myself, but you've done so far better then I could.

Rome is a stunning city to visit, I challenge anyone to not be utterly blown away when you first glimpse the Colosseum, it stopped me in my tracks.

Likewise if you can't see past the tourist-trap element of Venice to appreciate it for all it's beauty, then you're probably best not travelling at all. Great deal, I'd love to visit in January when the crowds are fewer, wish I had the time off.

Shouldn't the 20 euro transfer and the 12 euro per person room tax be added to the price ? They still have to be paid.

Damn just paid £132 per person to stay in the crowne plaza 4 star with british airways, i did get flights+transfer+23kg suitcase allowance but would have rather flown from EMA. For anyone who's been whats the average taxi price there? I seemed to be getting quoted quite high online..

Loved Venice and was surprised how inexpensive it was, after expecting the worst. Stayed away from the real tourist traps. But couldn't beat stopping on the canal for a glass of wine and a few free nibbles.

My response was towards the guy banging on about venice being rubbish and full of people selling "trinkets"

The same as they do in Rome

Personally i hated Rome, i visited all the places you mentioned and while the history was great and inspiring it doesnt detract from the fact it is a huge tourist trap with inflated prices, people selling tons of crap on every street corner and outside every single place with any historical value.

Its all about context. You might love Rome, i don't. Also this deal is about Venice and personally i think it's a cracking deal. Not sure why the guy brought Rome into it. It's not a worldwide city popularity competition
drummerdickens
6 Jan 16 #28
You've said nothing extra to detract from my points. I just don't understand how you can let such a minor issue ruin your experience of one of the most historically rich city's in the world.
timj13
7 Jan 16 #29
I just found it a bit much if I'm honest mate. I guess i wasn't expecting it and it kind of ruined the trip for me. Felt like a tourist trap and i wasn't really expecting that i guess

Although I am not one to care much about history, i did enjoy visiting places like the vatican etc but all the other nonsense in and around it ruined the experience for me. Sounds like the histroical value outweighed the rest of it for you but for me it was the other way around.

I'm currently sat on a plane waiting to fly back from Rome - been here for 3 days on a little break.

Yes, there are people selling junk at a lot of the tourist hot spots and on busy streets, but if that ruined the holiday for you then perhaps you didn't go with the right expectations or indeed didn't actually do enough while you were here?
There is ALOT to do in Rome, even the things off the beaten track are fascinating. I'm curious as to what other 'nonsense' there is here?
The only complaint I have is how utterly shocking the bread is in Rome
