The iPad Mini 2 uses the same A7 chipset as the iPad Air, so it's decent enough and fast enough, it's only when you open a load of tabs in Safari that you see the performance fall off a cliff due to only having 1GB RAM. However for general use it's much better than the ipad Mini which has the same horsepower as an iPad 2. Definitely go iPad Mini 2 not iPad Mini if you're in to this form factor.

Nah it has the same A7 as the iPhone 5s. The one in the Air is slightly faster. Both are still perfectly capable but I think you're overstating the number of tabs in Safari.

It's safe to say you're right in what you said, although it's negligible. I speak from experience in using the iPad Air, which I find to be slower on 9.2 and heavy web browsing starts to kill the performance.

Not bad. 19 posts before the usual "16gb is not enough" type post appeared. (In fairness, at least it wasn't a complete dismissal of 16gb as simply "not enough" ...)
It's only not enough if you want to store loads of music and/or movies on it, or you want to have lots of BIG apps installed simultaneously on it. If you can limit yourself to 3 or 4 of the whoppers at any one time, you should be fine.
I have a 16gb mini 2. Loads of games installed. I don't store music or films on it. Loads of space left and never had an issue with space on it.
Good price. Nothing sluggish about mine. (And I'm not an Apple fanboy. I hate their walled ecosystem business model and insistence on always introducing proprietary kit ...)

Cold, the performance of these is substandard now and obsolescence will only become more apparent with each new iOS iteration - which slows performance down in older devices down by design. Spend the same money on a more capable alternative.
That, or take no notice of any of this if you don't mind sluggish browsing and a laggy GUI.

Good deal. I've had mine for 2 years now and it's an absolutely fantastic tablet. With the latest iOS it's not quite as silky smooth as it used to be, but that's to be expected and it still feels quick and pleasant to use generally; far better than my Nexus 7 and Nexus 10, both of which now feel very sluggish. One of the most impressive things is the battery life. It seems to be even better with the latest iOS, can get over 20 hours of usage before I need to charge it.
It's so good I've got no plans to change it any time soon, but when I do, it'll be another iPad.

That's strange, my Nexus 7 2013 is as fast now on Marshmallow than it was on Kit Kat 2 years ago. Its all about that 2GB Ram. I agree with some of the other comments here. 1GB Ram, you are asking for trouble. Either pay the money and buy something with 2GB or accept that a 1GB device wont last that long.

I think performance today will be pretty good. As the latest iOS devices have 2GB Ram, its just a matter of time before developers start to make there apps to utilise this new standard. They may still work on older devices but in a watered down manner. Games may dump support for 1GB much quicker.

Actually, I do own one. It was great when we got it, like Apple devices always are. But gradually performance was harmed with each new version of iOS. Gone was the nippy and tactile browsing, Safari became a sluggish pain - compared to alternative devices of equal or less power. Nowadays the kids use the iPad for YouTube and games, which is fine for them.
But for anyone who enjoys snappy response and navigation, the iPad 2 mini is past its best. My OnePlus One phone is far preferable for day to day browsing and productivity. The same usage on the iPad 2 Mini is just a hassle.

I feel that 1GB will be OK in my iPad for a while yet, at least for general use. iOS seems to utilise its RAM more efficiently, definitely not enough in an Android device now though. Slightly off topic, but I've not had much luck with my Nexus devices. I've got a Nexus 4, 7 and 10 and the only one I've not had stability problems is is the 7 2012, which is the only one with 1GB RAM out of the 3. Don't get me wrong about Android though. My phone is a Z3 Compact and it's easily the best phone I've owned. Fast and very stable, absolute pleasure to use.

You may have noticed that I qualified my comment with the opinion that the 32gb versions offered better value as the various discounts would be larger than for the 16gb version, not neccessarily because 16gb is too small. However, it is a consideration if you're planning to hang on to it for a few years rather than upgrade every time a new version comes out. Apps are undoubtably getting larger. Half the space on my 64GB iPad is used up, and I don't download every app known to man. So obviously 16gb wouldn't be enough for me (and many others).

Got two iMini 2's (one for the son) and an LG G Pad 8.3.
The iMini 2 just works and has the latest iOS 9.2 (just got an alert that 9.2.1 is ready) while the G Pad is stuck at Android 4.2 with no plans from LG to update.
Have not noticed any performance degradation with new iOS releases, it still plays Infinity Blade 3 & Modern Combat 5 perfectly well, unfortunately the same cannot be said of me!
At this price point, it's a no brainer over 8" 2013 and even 2014 android counterparts.

I bought the Mrs a Gpad 8.3. You are correct in saying that LG haven't been good with OS updates. However, 4.4.2 is an excellent OS, its still as fast as it was on day 1 and LG are providing security updates. Considering I picked up one for £120 and it has an SD Card slot, what's not to like? I'm not suggesting anyone buys one today but the price/performance/lastability ratio has been excellent.

If the iphone 6s had 1GB RAM, this would be a really hot deal as the iOS ceiling would be 1GB. As this is not the case, the clock is really starting to tick.
Agreed on Android. 2GB is the minimum today. Original Nexus 7 was always crippled by slow memory unfortunately.

I have an iPad Air, if I open up 20 tabs or so it starts to lose performance significantly.
