For anyone interested the 16L version is £99 and has a digital display of humidity level, which can be set to cut off at a certain %, and a laundry mode. It is worth the extra in my opinion.

And there speaks someone who has never had to live in an old flat with dampness in the walls, floor or roof (or all) and can't afford to fix these complicated issues.
Here is one more reason for you: people with asthma may be interested in this product, as the links between cold, dampness, moisture and asthma are now well known.
Absolute nonsense, one can only imagine how you reach that plucked out of the air figure. You can't say that as it is dependent on so many factors. To name just a few, running time required, the size of your house, number of rooms, quality and state of walls, local climate, electric cost (many HUKD's also use economy 7 for cheaper overnight electrics and some even have Solar PV).

I think mine is more like £43, but mine has hydrometer sensing so turns off once the humidity has dropped.

There's a lot of rubbish on this thread. Can't really believe the reasons people come up with for these things being great.
For reference, it's going to cost around £200 per year of electricity to run one of these.

Drying clothes indoors – Unfortunately the weather isn’t always on our side and there are probably quite a few times during the year when we can’t peg out our washing, but drying clothes indoors = a lot of moisture in the air.

Why are you so adamant they don't work/are pointless? To address your earlier point, raising the temp above the dew point will help stop condensation forming. However you are fixing the problem not the cause. High temp with high humidity is uncomfortable and it's not very efficient to keep the temp up all the time in the whole house. Furthermore the humidity will remain high. There are all sorts of health problems associated with living in houses with high humidity.

Used to get mould in old house, had an ebac one of these upstairs reduced appearance of mould greatly. No more condensation on windows in the morning. It actually saves on heating bills as it makes heating your home more efficient. Homes that have lots of insulation don't breath as well as draughty buildings so the condensation has no where to go.
In our newer house, condensation is not a problem as rooms are so much bigger so they can handle our expelling of moisture. So now dehumidifier is in the utility room drying racks of clothing. More energy efficient than one load of drying, now can dry 3 loads overnight. You can't put cotton and wool in dryer or it shrinks!

If it's in the garage you'd probably want a desiccant-based one rather than a compressor-based one, as they work at lower temperatures.
Garages are usually quite draughty. You might be fighting an expensive losing battle trying to keep the humidity down in a garage, as the source of moisture will be from incoming air and there may be quite a lot of that.

The cause is often breathing and that's rather hard to fix. Running the heating isn't free.

I have a 16ltr one that i picked up last year from screwfix, and can honestly say its excellent, if you think your house does not have condensation issues, then the results of these machines will amaze you. My house does suffer from damp and condensation, especially on one wall, my machine keeps it under control. I also lent it to my friend for a few days who claimed they only work for houses with issues, his house didn't have any problems in his eyes, he was quietly surprised.
Had a quick look at some areas to see what stock they still had, as they seem to be selling out quickly, manchester, liverpool, london

These are good for old build houses, or old flats where this is excess moisture, old wooden windows, or bad state of walls. Obviously it would be sensible to do what you can to treat any damp/moisture causing issues, but when I lived in a flat as described above, I couldn't afford to fix the underlying issues and a dehumidifier was a lifesaver for us.

Indeed, fix the cause and/or by a tumble dryer. Don't throw good money after bad. Raising the temperature of the house above the dew point would help.

Helps pull water out of the air so helps control condensation etc which leads to mould.
Also as it pulls water out of the air/walls your house will be warmer.
Once you've had one you can help but wonder where the hell all this water is coming from. Had an Ebac one, and been very impressed with what they do generally.
