I have just found a free gift glitch on Yankee Candles, if you had 2 large jar candles, the 2015 keep sake bauble (free when you spend over £25) and the winter tote bag (free when yo spend over £60) the total comes to the price of the 2 large jar candles. I have just paid £35.18 for all of the items, and free delivery for orders over £30.

Don't bother viewing your basket (it will say you haven't qualified for the tote). Just go straight to the checkout as it all happens automatically. You'll need to put some details in first before you get a review of what you're ordering. It works!!

Hi everyone.
I ordered 4 tote bags in separate orders. 2 on Saturday and 2 Yesterday (Monday)
I received my Saturday order's today via DPD and paid a total of £1.14 for a tart and added the winter tote bag for free per order.
I received both dispatch emails today (Tuesday at 2.45 and 2.46pm) for the 2 orders I placed yesterday.
Anyone who placed an order today should know ifs its honoured by Wednesday via an email and this should be delivered approx the same times as my other order confirmations from Yankee seem to appear between Midday and 3pm always.

deb8z
16 Dec 15 #296
Apparently it depends what their T&C's say as to whether they accept an order upon despatch or delivery :

Online:
The situation is not as clear-cut online.
The legally binding contract is complete when a retailer accepts an order. However, acceptance does not necessarily happen at the point of order. Even the confirmation email may not be an acceptance. Some retailers reserve the right to cancel an order up to the point of delivery. It is therefore important to carefully check the retailer’s terms and conditions (which must be available on their website) and emails – if a retailer simply acknowledges an order, there may be no contract at that point.
deb8z
16 Dec 15 #297
The cheap orders I can understand being cancelled but not the expensive ones,I genuinely spent enough to qualify for the bauble, but given I can get yankee's quite often on sale for around twelve pounds each then I've actually paid about £9.00 for that tote bag
llareggub
16 Dec 15 1 #298
According to Yankee Candle's own Terms and Conditions:
Order acknowledgement policy

Please note that your order will become a legally binding contract entered in between us upon despatch of your order.

Surely this means that the despatch emails are legally binding contracts for BOTH parties and all orders that are marked as 'despatched' should be honoured?
deb8z to llareggub

deb8z
16 Dec 15 #308
I've found the relevant part, but still not sure what it means as to whether they can cancel orders after tracking numbers etc have been emailed :

Order acknowledgement policy
Please note that your order will become a legally binding contract entered in between us upon despatch of your order.

Your receipt of an electronic or other form of order confirmation does not signify our acceptance of your order, nor does it constitute confirmation of our offer to sell. Yankee reserves the right at any time after receipt of your order to accept or decline your order for any reason. Yankee reserves the right at any time after receipt of your order, without prior notice to you, to supply less than the quantity you ordered of any item. All orders placed over £1000.00 (Inc. VAT) must obtain pre-approval with an acceptable method of payment, as established by our credit and fraud avoidance department. We may require additional verifications or information before accepting any order.

We reserve the right to reject any offer to purchase by you at any time.

Have just phoned them - all generated orders supposedly despatched have been cancelled and the Hermes tracking number is now null and void. I recited - word for word - their terms and conditions regarding despatched orders and she put me on hold to speak to her manager. She then came back to me and said that it also states in their terms and conditions £60 must be spent to get the tote bag and therefore the orders are no longer entitled to the free bag and have subsequently been cancelled.
I told her that a problem on their site - allowing the bag to be added to the basket - was not my problem but she was having none of it. I told her I would get back to her once I had got some legal advice on this (friend is a solicitor!)

16 Dec 15 #319
I don't see why Yankee are saying the customers are at fault. Mine clearly stated that I no longer qualified for the tote and that it would be removed prior to going ahead and checking out. If Yankees removal of the freebie for non-qualifying baskets on their site does not work, thats THEIR fault, not the customers.
pj68
16 Dec 15 1 #320
I don't think so (not 100% sure), but I believe the goods are still their property until they leave their premises, and possibly until we (the customer) take possession of them ( as when some supermarkets tell their delivery drivers not to deliver certain orders that contain glitches that are already on their van)
On the other side the customer, under distant selling regs, can return orders for full refund ...... I think!!!
But would be great if we could get them to honour the orders
cryption
16 Dec 15 #321
Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Yankee Candle.

Your order was cancelled as there was an attempt to claim the free Tote Bag on orders over £60 without sufficient items in the basket for the offer to be valid.

If the total basket value of qualifying products is reduced below the threshold of £60, the customer will no longer be eligible for the free tote bag.

Complete order cancelled, I had ordered 2 large candles.

16 Dec 15 1 #339
..... At least they didn't send out the orders minus the tote bags claiming they were OOS
SOME_ONE
16 Dec 15 #340
I'm confused.

Orders went to despatched yesterday and are now showing as 'returned'.

Guessing they never despatched them and realized the mistake and cancelled collection?
pj68 to SOME_ONE
16 Dec 15 #341
Yep! I'm guessing they packed the orders and raised the tracking/parcel numbers. They have taken the money via debit/credit cards, and have issued refund emails, which have come after the cancellation emails.
Finally I assume they have cancelled the Hermes collection

16 Dec 15 #342
Best comment I have read since all the cancellations. People talking about lawyers over a tote bag with a few bits in is going to far. Every time this happens you get the same replies, you know you're not entitled to it but you give it a go and if it works great if it doesn't move on and forget about it.

16 Dec 15 #343
He always says the same,in this case though it's never happened to me before getting a despatch notice,I'm not that bothered because as I said earlier I've never paid more than about twelve pounds for a large jar before so once I factor in that I was actually paying nine pounds for the bag

I did expect an apology though, not an email thanking me for returning my order

One of my orders has been cancelled and the other is due for delivery within the next hour.......Will I have paid £5.95 for delivery of a £1.80 candle or will I get lucky.....Either way the earlier post is spot on......"nothing to do with that everyone who ordered knew they were playing the game, we lost simple as that ,everyone was guilty of trying to get something they were not entitled to, time to move on to the next deal/glitch"

16 Dec 15 #346
Can't believe people are trying to claim 'breaches of contract' and 'contacting solicitors'. We tried to take advantage of a glitch that would cost the company thousands if honoured. We know how the game works. We didn't get lucky this time. Move on.
deb8z to pinkchick1987
16 Dec 15 #349
Speaking of complaints, how did you get on with yours regarding missing samples from Clinique?
llareggub
16 Dec 15 1 #347
No one is 'contacting solicitors' - I was merely going to ask my friend next time I saw her how this actually works! Agree that we all played the game and lost - no biggy! And yes we have all moved on to other deals. Life is too short to mull over such trivial matters.
pinkchick1987
16 Dec 15 1 #350
They apologised and said they'd send out the missing items. Took an age for them to reply though!

Well done.

However this has actually left me with a bad taste because I spent alot with Yankee and never had any problems.

I really don't like the way they apparently 'despatched' an order and then marked it as 'returned'. I returned nothing.

Additionally in my first order I actually had ordered something that I wanted, I expected some type of message saying a mistake had been made and to actually ask me what I wanted to do? Did I want to continue my order without the tote? I rec'd nothing, no message, no nothing... Just a message saying I had returned my order. Very unprofessional.

That is basically everything I have said to them in a Facebook message as it started to annoy me when OH came home from work and I told him what had happened and he was saying it's ridiculous to send an email thanking me for the return and not an apology,so I've given them an earful to get it off my chest
cryption
16 Dec 15 1 #356
I just got off the phone to my sister who had ordered, and she said she sent them an email asking why hers was cancelled, as she had bought a number of candles and an xmas gift set that she wanted and that she wasn't fussed about the tote because the site had warned that it had been taken out of her basket as she hadn't spent quite enough so she didn't expect it to be ordered anyway. She said their first email was accusatory and impolite, with no apology whatsoever and no resolution offered, and when she asked if they could put her order back in they refused and now some of the items are no longer available on the site.
Personally I never understood the obsession and appeal of yankee candles, they're cheap tat the majority of which now comes from china, with the yankee brand name stuck on them. But for whatever reason my sister thinks they're the best thing ever, which is fine and dandy, but it does annoy me the way they treated her. She orders a lot off them, maybe she'll think twice about it now. Personally, I think it'd be for the best if the yankee pong in her home finally subsided!!

What an awful company, lie after lie, they have now changed the terms and conditions on the website to cover themselves,as yesterday the contract was formed upon despatch,it doesn't say that today. So it does go to show that if people had wanted to pursue it they would have had cause to as they were going against their own terms and conditions, why else would they have changed them.

Order acknowledgement policy
Please note that your order will become a legally binding contract entered in between us upon physical shipment of your order.

17 Dec 15 #360
Totally agree - why else would they have changed their terms and conditions? However, we are powerless so we will have to take it on the chin and move on.

17 Dec 15 1 #361
I agree,I'm not chasing it but I was venting at them yesterday & today they sent a message back with the ahem updated terms, very underhand and it's put me off this company now & I have tons of their candles,I must have at least 10 unopened.
llareggub
17 Dec 15 #362
They sent me the 'old' terms and conditions in a PM on Facebook so I still have a record of the old ones - not that I will do anything with them or about them.
