Hang on a minute ?
"Can be blocked" ????
I think you have been watching a bit too much telly !
Yes a professional burglar will have equipment to block and disable any alarm, but if your thinking of installing one of these alarms id assume you do not live in a penthouse apartment or a castle !
Your gonna live in a normal house on a normal street ?
And because of that you will not see Tom Cruise and his mission impossible team in their van outside BLOCKING your wireless alarm to be able to nick your new Blaupunkt tv you brought on black friday from Asda !

Is it not better than nothing?

Surly if a burglar sees your house with an alarm and 10 other houses without one would he not go for one of them?

I agree it's not as good as a monitored one, but at least it's still something for somebody that can't afford the monthly cost of a monitored alarm?

Also, does this dial a number and call you if the alarm goes off? I am looking at the below kit:

The enforcer looks good and it is encrypted too but it is still 868MHz but a 2 way. Does this eman ti cannot be hacked? Can it still be jammed? Is this more secure than a wired system?

One of my neighbours was about to get ADT installed with the ADT engineers and I was standing right there, he asked me which alarm I had - when I told him I had Yale - he asked my neighbour to install the same one!!! Said ADT are no better or worse than Yale. They do exactly the same job and in fact also have an external alarm, whereas the ADT one doesnt! ADT was costing my neighbour £390 installation and £27.99 per month for at least 18 months! You can do the maths mate....[/quote]Thanks mate. I completely understand where you come from. The only reason I asked was because the other person mentioned Grade 2, which seems to be deep to me...

Rusty, I am wondering why you are so against Yale ?

For me it provides piece of mind that I will get a phone call when the alarm goes off, so I can ask neighbors to check, or dash back home, or call the police etc. In particular, I know that I will be woken up if someone attempts to enter the house while my family sleeps upstairs.

The slightly more expensive Yale alarm which I have (http://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-easy-fit-telecommunicating-wireless-alarm-kit/42727) has jamming detection and operates on 868MHz wireless frequency, which 'is more tightly controlled than many used by typical DIY alarms.'

To me it seems you are writing off perfectly ok Yale alarms in same way you would probably say "a Skoda's price is a third of a BMW, but performance wise it's no good, so don't buy it". Some people will argue that it might not provide the same comfort, security etc as a BMW, but that it is good enough for them.

It's called the Bell Box/Siren, it's a Pyronix siren, if you look on somewhere like PC World or Banks in the high street they use the same siren. You can buy new covers for £6 and have what ever you want stuck on it.

Yale don't make professional alarms, only DIY alarms, most burglars would know this.

Thank you for your info. I have no idea about the technique terms of these alarms (ie: grade 2, 2 way comms?). But the one you recommended seems to have more functions, eg the phone app is really a plus. However, it is also very important to show that you have this alarm from the outside of your house, so that robbers can be scared away. therefore the thing you put outside the house is key (I don't know what is called). But the Yale one seems to be better than this 'Alarm South West'??? What's your option?
RustySpoons

I would honestly get this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pyronix-Enforcer-Wireless-Alarm-System-/111844411596?hash=item1a0a7248cc:g:fh0AAOSwT5tWPnji

It's only a couple of quid more, it's a Grade 2 alarm, 2 way comms between the sensors etc, it can connect to the phone line and there is an app for your phones/tablets etc. You can even add a GPRS module later on and other sensors etc. Really good bit of kit and easy to install.

You're a Luddite. You have no concept of the simplicity in the majority of hacking. For example, I used my friend's laptop the other day and his mate had left the login to his gmail. I went to the settings of Google to retrieve the password, it asked me for the main login to the Windows account. I already knew this as I setup the password, I then got the password from Google Chrome. I showed how I did it to my friend and told him to mention it to his friend. I had full access to his email account and I could have then proceeded to garner more information. To block a wireless burglar alarm is simple, you can block a car alarm easily enough.

It's not about complexity as you assume it is by your description of needing a special agent to jam the alarm, this is about simplicity! You do know how the telephone hacking was done? It was hardly hacking it relies on the inherent insecurity of humans, the answering phone PIN was not changed from default of 0000. Phone up a celeb, get the answer machine key in the default and you have access to the answer machine messages. This stuff can be done by pre teen kids these days and often is. I was able to hack TTNS (the Times Network for Schools) as a 17 year old kid in 1987, just by experimentation, I got found out and warned by the headmaster, then congratulated on my ingenuity, which to me was simple, I just used commands I guessed, I was no hacking genius. Just because you have no concept of the simplicity of hacking does not mean you need to chastise someone on this forum, who obviously has much more technical experience than you closed mind ever will! In fact children make for some of the best hackers as their minds are not closed by everyday experience, almost 30 years ago, it was simple to me and it's ever so simple for many people.

These are good alarms. You need a alarm what rings you, pointless fitting one without.

I'm happy Yale have added this one at a cheaper price for people.

Plus BBC channel one, programme called Break in Britain, which show thefts etc fit these for all their houses they attend and fit Yale locks too etc.

I don't care about my old TV. I care about waste of time, nerves and energy on dealing with the Police, insurance companies and shopping sites to replace all stolen items. Not to mention some personal things get poor Paddy £1.47 in cash converters but hold high sentimental value to me and missus.

That's what most people care about more than those few hundred pounds spent on a decent alarm system. And if they don't, I'd say don't bother with some chap ass Yale that every teenage burglar will disable with a £30 gizmo from ebay or simply ignore.

What is wrong with Amateur Radio? Care to quantify your statement?

Let me think, without Amateur radio there would be no TV, no Satellite, no WiFi, no Mobile phones. And a lot of emergency back up used via amateur radio. Look at some of the disasters across the world where cells etc have been wiped out.... Also no Wireless alarms! :man:

I also fail to see what relevance it has to Women?

Thank you for that, I quote from that website "Yale Wirefree

This uses one-way OOK 434MHz. This makes it very easy to jam (intentionally and unintentionally). It means that battery life is lower than it can be. There is very limited functionality."

Watching too much TV? I think someone needs to do some research here and it's not me! These are totally insecure, they are a joke. If I keyed one of my radios up it would set the alarm off, what would I know, I am only a electronics engineer and used to be comms engineer for the police, I am also a qualified radio amateur so know quite a lot about RF!

Burglar alarms can always give the impression you have something worth stealing. When was the last time your car alarm went off or your burglar alarm sounded accidentally and a concerned neighbour or Police Officer knocked on your door to check everything was OK? That's the crucial difference with a monitored alarm system, it's not left to Joe Public or the non-existant beat plod to act on the "ruddy neighbour's alarm is always ruddy going off at all hours" klaxon that drowns in the cacophony of suburbia.
I'd personally make sure your door furniture and Euro cylinder are very high security and the best you can afford.
Whether the Police act is another matter - we all know the Hatton Garden story by now, but at least ADT have the reputation to act as a deterrent. Still a good deal imho though.

I politely disagree. while not perfect, these alarms are so loud, that someone would definitely think twice before entering a property with a yale alarm. We once thought we had disarmed the alarm before going downstairs in teh middle of the night, and one of the PIRs triggered the alarm. It was so loud, I remember standing in front of the control panel completely paralyzed, desperately trying to enter the code to switch it off. it would definitely distract , disturb and possibly prevent a thief from going through your stuff in piece and quiet.

if they want to get in your house, they will anyway. with this they might think twice.

Don't bother, uses either 433mhz (Mega LOL!) or 868mhz, one way comms, and can be blocked, un-armed or false alarms.
For a bit more get a Pyronix Enforcer kit.

16 Dec 15 #15
If a burglar see's Yale on an alarm they will just laugh, these are a complete waste of time.

If you want wired fit a Honeywell Galaxy, wireless fit a Pyronix Enforcer or Texecom Ricochet.

Saying that just a Texecom Odyssey Dummy Bell box will put a burglar off more than a full Yale alarm system.

I'd pair it with some security cameras that can be Internet monitored. (got a couple from amazon for about £30 each) Then if it goes off you can check the camera. Police should attend if you say you see a burglar on a security camera!
