I can't find this for less than £99.99 new so this seems a good deal for an official WD recertified backup NAS / personal cloud hard drive. They also have 3TB for £83.99, 4TB £94.99 and 6TB for £149.99.....free standard UPS shipping too!

Don't know whether to laugh or cry at their customer service.
When this first appeared a month ago I ordered their 4TB version. After they confirmed my order I heard nothing for weeks. Even after submitting a support ticket. Finally last week I get the vaguest of emails starting:
"At your request or at the request of the fulfiller and/or manufacturer, the following was cancelled from your order: Product Name Qty Ordered Reason for cancellation My Cloud 4T 1 Fulfillment Error My Passport 1 Fulfillment Error "
and the pending transaction disappeared from my credit card.
Next I get a response to my ticket saying "WD Store and have agreed that they will contact you for further assistance and information regarding the order." and that was the last I ever heard from them
....until this morning when a shiny myCloud arrived by UPS. No sign they've taken money from my credit card and not sure if they can take a payment after this time and them cancelling it before.
I'm an honest person and I'd tell them I owe them money, but if they think I'm going through that ticketing system again they can forget it. It's one of those ones where if your problem's not on the dropdown list you can't proceed. I think last time I ended up having to lie and then spent 10 minutes trying to figure out what their serial numbers looked like so I could enter a fake one since the form wouldn't submit with it.

Very tempting but it sounds like they use a proprietary file system making it risky to save the data if something fails. It also sounds like you have to buy the EX range to got a real filesystem e.g. the EX4 that uses the unix EXT4. Pretty disappointing they would make you have to pay more to have more safety, but that's capitalism isn't it?

It looks like £10 will be automatically deducted if you spend over £100. I bought the 4TB one for £94.99, and just added a £7.99 My Passport Neoprene Case which brings the total order to £92.98.
I saved 201p, but also get a 'free' case.
Also, I've noticed that their RRP for the 6TB is £299, but you can get it from Amazon £200.

True, might be something to do with charging less for the drives and trying to save money for stock they otherwise couldn't shift. But then companies like Apple charge less for their refurb products and give them the same warranty as a brand new product.

9 Dec 15#91
I hope that's true but why don't they give them a proper warranty? For your use though, when you've got a backup of the main stuff on OneDrive and can download software if necessary, I get it. Though I'd still buy a non cloud device that's new and has a decent warranty for the same money instead.
I may be biased because I've had two recertified drives (as replacements for failed units) and both have failed again within a short time (Seagate and Samsung). I just destroyed them and bought a different brand (WD).

wish they has the QNAP nas's on offer, they are on a whole new level! this mycloud only offers storage. QNAP can let you streaming video to dlna, airplay, etc. use it as a computer, install virtual machines etc. connect it to the big screen and watch all your movies with kodi xbmc and so much more stuff.

for those who insist on getting a RAID set up for home use, i'd read this article ..
I'd be wary of putting my data on a unit that might have already been repaired - and only 6 months warranty doesn't exactly show that the Western Digital sales people are optimistic about its lifespan.
I said this in a previous thread for WD re-certified drives - look at the cost per warrantied month. This (already returned once) 2TB device costs £10/month. Buy it new from Amazon for £95 and it's only £3.96/month.

Love these drives - over the years I've gone from having a 1tb My Book World to a 2tb My Book World II to a 3tb My Book Live to a 4tb My Cloud. They're not the fastest or most powerful NAS drives but they've always delivered on the features they've promised and never let me down. It's possible to install additional features, within reason - eg. on the first My Book I installed a media server because it didn't come with one (all subsequent drives have but I still manually installer newer media server software for more features). Tempted to buy an additional one or a larger one at these prices...

i can't quite remember with the mycloud specifically, but most nas drives can be accessed over the web either with a DDNS (dynamic dns) address or the IP address specifically.
a DDNS address, for example, would look something like "http://your-nas-drive.no-ip.com"

It's actually an installable application for the device, so the options are all fully configurable - type of explosion, radius e.t.c..
There's even an extensive colour palette you can play with so you could use the explosive brain matter as a new 'art installation' type of decoration of your living room or office.

If what you say is true, that sounds messy. Is it quite a contained explosion, or would it involve having to pick bits of flesh and skin and hair out of the furniture for months after the extensive repainting to remove the blood staining? Presumably it’s not explicitly listed as a feature, this literal exploding of the owner?

Looking at your question about photos.
If you've taken a photo on your galaxy Note 4...and you've installed the WD app it'll automatically back it up to your NAS.
Then your NAS will stream that photo out.
You pick it up using the same WD app on your iPad.
Movies too. You can install a FTP app on your Note and ftp it to your NAS.
Then use infuse or vlc to copy it to your iPad. Or the WD app.

This is a great price for a starter NAS drive. The Synology range do rather eclipse these for functionality, but this is an excellent place to start - I had one and I pulled the hard drive out when I got my Zyxel NSA310S, and then I pulled the same hard drive out of that to put in my Synology DS114, and then again in to my DS115, so the hard drive from the MyCloud is in it's 4th NAS drive and still going well
