Vote cold, I managed to get this deal, but they only had 137 per month and above, 2 weeks of application forms and being told the car is reserved for me from the start, them going through with a credit check and approving the finance to telling me that senior management decided to give the car to someone else and now can only get the deal at 160 per month (few options included), had to decline as the price kept creeping up and they just gave my car away to another customer. Be warned all..

Regarding the scratches and returning it in top condition - this is not entirely true. All respectable lease companies will follow BVRLA (http://www.bvrla.co.uk/) guidelines which allow for a reasonable amount of scratches and bits of damage to the cars. I haven't gone through the rules myself but I am told they are pretty generous. If you are damaging alloys all the time, then maybe you shouldn't be driving. £1500 for bodywork repairs over 2 years is absolutely ridiculous. I think the same goes for servicing - as long as you fit parts that follow guidelines and standards - VW can't say no to warranty requests.
Anyone buying a sporty petrol wont necessarily be doing it for fuel economy. Fuel is fuel - every car needs it! Same for insurance. Road Tax is paid for with lease deals. Who says a youngster has to drive it?
Weak argument.

£134 a month, 9 months up front. The dsg and paint bumped the price up a bit from the £127 quoted although looking now it's slightly higher. Wouldn't go back to a manual after having it tbo.
Everyone likes it - most think it's a golf as it only has a gti badge on the tailgate

Buying a used car for five grand that is worth two grand in three years, breaks down and risks having a major electrical problem? its a calculated risk isn't it?
There are benefits and disadvantages to both approaches to running a car for a couple of years. People have their own preferences, and also very different needs.
I don't think there is really any need to attempt to insult anyone because they have a different opinion, is there?

Very very few people who "buy" a new car on finance actually keep it after the initial finance term.
It costs £380 per month to "buy" a Fiesta ST3 on finance, it costs £179 per month to lease one, I can't fathom why anyone would be willing to pay £200 extra per month when they have no intention of keeping it?

Amen, my friend has a ST3 on PCP and paying £290pm for 3years, I got a 208GTI on lease for £168pm and you can guarantee that at the end of our terms even through they are both fantastic cars we wouldn't mind trying something new / getting the updated model

Like another user has already said they all follow the BVRLA guidelines, I had a lease Toyota agyo and was initially abit worried during the collection / inspection as it had numberous stone chips on the front, 2 of my alloys had medium sized scuffs, a scratch along the entire drivers side and small dent on passenger side. The car flew through inspection, they were mainly looking to see if it had been crashed or serious damage and if the tyres were legal.
In regards to all the other costs you mentioned, you'd have to spend the same if you owned the car outright from new plus stuff like tyres/servicing is applicable to all cars.

Totally agree here. Its personal preference and if you bought the car Brand New today, I am sure depreciation in 2 years time would be much higher than what it would cost you to lease. Damage /Accidents happen whether you lease or buy, so you should not let that put you off either option. If it does, probably better staying with public transport.

Yes, that was very much my experience. I found the rules to be very clear and fair. My last lease car needed £50 from a dent master, and about the same from a local body shop to fix the damage I did reversing it into a wheelie bin!
A lot of body shops do overcharge though, on the assumption that it is being claimed on insurance - so I can understand how very minor damage becomes a £500 bill, if you arent careful.

For the same reason iphone deals turn in to iOS v Android debates, we as humans like to justify our own decisions.
Leases are simple, if you are wanting a new car (and the benefits that come with it) they can sometimes work out less than the depreciation you would suffer paying cash but not all the time. Decide what you want, do your research, do the maths and make a choice, it's not rocket science.

I think because cars, much like football, are subjects where people that are hard of thinking form very strong opinions! I like both cars and football myself, so obviously I am generalising a bit. I think.

""""10,000 miles per annum. Total - £4265.06"""""
Not really total + repairs as you need to return car in prestige conditions
Any damages to body works, inside extra .
You will be parking car in the safe place all the time !!! shops car parks how many times scratch doors etc .
if you can polish you are lucky but if need repaint door or bumper etc .. can be easy 600 +
Alloy Wheels £50 per wheel say So another 200 +
Tyre's ? total mileage 20 000 maybe you will be fine swapping back to fronts but with 1.8 TSI ?? maybe -- than why to have GT : ):smiley::smiley:
10 000 miles service (WV dealer) say + £120-200 ?? for just oil change where garage can change for £40 so another expense
TSI how good on fuel ??? compare to 2.0 TDI still more usage - so another expense fuel But more fun to drive : )
I would say 10,000 miles per annum. Total - £4265.06 add another £1500 (for repairs, scratch etc) = 5765 / 24 =
£240 + fuel
So not really cheap 240 + fuel say another £150 (10 000 Miles) = £390 + insurance + road tax = now you can drive the car on the road everything payed
So youngster will pay for Polo GT > £500 per month ??? rich youngster as he need to pay for living cost as well say rent
